I did a search for threads about this movie, and didn’t find anything. Are there any fans of this flick out there? I watched it again recently and loved it. The plot is completely character driven and the development of the story is really well done. All the leads give fantastic performances and Robert Redford does some of his best work with the direction. It just seems to me that this movie is really under-appreciated.

Definitely a damn good movie, lots of great performances. And I'm pro-anything John Turturro.

8/10

Great movie. Really shows Ralph Fiennes range when you consider how vastly different Charles Van Doren is from Amon Goeth. I love all the moments where they actually show the game show. I thought Turturro's portrayal was a bit.. stereotypically Jewish, if you will... but still compelling. Rob Morrow was good too. 1994 was such an amazing year for film.

One of the best examples of good acting by the whole cast. And the screenplay's damn good too.

Any one of the other four noms for Best Picture that year were a better choice than FORREST GUMP. I like that movie, too, but not as much as the awesome QUIZ SHOW.

The reason it is is because that was the year of Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Shawshank.

This was a big year in film.

I think it's Redford's best film as a director. Great pace and characterization. 1994 was a terrific year for cinema as evidenced by the contenders at the awards that year. It's a period piece about the dawn of television as a manipulative medium. The themes of greed and deception within the industry remain as prevalent now as they did when it was set, which is why the film wasn't dated when it was released or even now. I find it similar to Network in that regard, but obviously not in story or overall execution, solely in theme.

yeah -- the movie gets overshadowed by some other great movies that year, but a great ensemble 8.5/10

By far Redford's best film. I have been a fan of this film for YEARS now and have been advocating it as one of the most underrated movies (and yes, I know it has a bunch of Oscar noms, but when people think "good movies of the 1990s" I think very few people think of this film, which is a shame). Ralph Fiennes, who is one of my favourite actors, delivers some of his best work ever in this film, right up there with The Constant Gardener and Schindler's List, and John Turturro also has a lot of meat to bite in to. In all, the ensemble cast (including Marty Scorsese) is great, the film is fascinating, entertaining, well-paced, well-made, and just a whole lot of fun with a message. One of my favourite films of all time - no joke!

9/10.

I remember seeing it in cinemas, I remember loving it and being pleasantly surprised by it because my expectations were low. I will not give a grade however because I hardly remember it since that was the first and only time i saw it, so I'd need to watch it again. Judging from my initial reaction and the years of viewing experience I've had since then i have a feeling I will love it all over again.
Ralph Fiennes is a master.
