Does anyone else have so many movies that by the time you decide on something your so exhausted you go to bed and don't wanna watch anything.

2000+ DVD's and Blu-Rays.

I give up all the time and throw Caddyshack on.

I with ya there. It's always the same thing. "I wanna watch something..." 40 min later, picking through stuff, popping in 2-3 flicks for 5 min, I end up just saying screw it, and going to bed or watching a CSI repeat on TV. Then when I do go to bed, I toss BWP into the portable player just to "watch for a bit", then 89min later, I get to sleep. :D

Yeah, i'm the same way. I have a stack of DVD's I still need to watch, yet I always pick something i've watched before. Or I tell myself i'll watch something, and don't.

Side note: Caddyshack is one of the best comedies ever.

i hate myself for doing this. but 'm damn glad to hear others have the same issue.

i have over 700 dvd's/blu-ray's, a few of which i haven't seen yet, i convince myself i am trying to. i attempt to get myself to watch one of the never seen right before bed but i get so tired i tell myself to go with a reliable good film, which then proceeds to half an hour-to-an hour long hunt in front of my shelves with what i want to see.

and like Donnie said, sometimes that leads right to just watching a rerun of CSI before catching more Z's.

I have 1200 DVDs and let me share with you the trick to beating this problem (and yes I have had the problem in the past, the current problem is getting me and the wife to agree on something to watch).

Go through all your movies and pull out any movie that you want to see (you don't have to take it off the shelf just make it stick out enough that when you go to pick a movie the ones that you were interested are sticking out a bit) or are interested in seeing again. What this does is reduce it to 50-60 movies to pick from instead of 2000. Every now go and again push all the movies in and start from scratch. Works wonders got my wife to agree on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest tonight it was between that and Rebecca.

Wanted to watch the Greatest Show on Earth but I always have to compromise when we watch movies together as I never get to see what I want and then when shes not around or not watching a movie with me I watch what I want to watch. But my goal right now is to fill her in on some of the great academy award best pictures.

I pretty much do the exact same thing as SirDizzy. Occassionally, I'll pick out about 5-10 that I want to watch, leave them on top of the TV and choose from those until I'm done with all of them too.

Note to SirDizzy: My girlfriend has nowhere near the same taste in films, as she likes generally chick flicks and mainstream comedies, but she loved Rebecca. Go figure.

My girlfriend and I have the same problems. We usually have a hard time choosing anything and by the time we decide both of us don't even want to watch the movie we choose and end up watching Futurama or X files since we have both complete series. What I find works for us is choosing a genre of movie first that you are in the mood to watch, then eliminate from there. You have to stick to it though or else a decision will never be made.

Also we have like 20 movies that are unopened that we bought because they were great movies and on sale, but we have seen them already so we are in no rush to watch them. Does anybody else have this problem with their collection?

I've racked up a fair list of films to watch (all to be first time watches when I actually get round to them), sometimes I just can't figure out what I want to watch and end up throwing on Angry Beavers or something instead.

I have over 500 dvds, many of which are still shrink wrapped even though I bought them a year or two ago. The kiss of death in my house has been the rental of a dvr. I record so many movies and tv shows everyday that I try to catch up on the weekends. I was so excited about the Blade Runner special edition coming out....I still haven't opened it. There is an advantage to having it all there on a hard drive though. I'm torn....

im so glad im not the only one here.

Sorry.

I own over 2000 dvds and have not seen about 300(not included in the over 2000 I seen.) I buy dvds every week Tuesday,Friday, and Sunday spend over 200 dollars on dvds.

When it comes to watching new movies i get tired for can't seem to choose from the 200 I need to see so i end up watching my old favorite dvds.

I FUCKING HATE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhhh, this is currently happening to me! I have a stack of:

Fargo
Payback
The Bourne Ultimatum
Sunshine
Ocean's Thirteen
The Shining
The Green Mile
Se7en
Death Proof
The Shawshank Redemption
Heat
Batman Returns
28 Weeks Later
Freedom WRiters
Frailty
Kenny Vs. Spenny Season 1

I tell myself I'm going to watch them, but I always end up watching something else.

I go through 700+ DVD's and end up with about 4 movies and a TV series.

I usually take into account whether I want to watch them in bed (then I'll watch a more dramatic movie e.g. The Aviator) or on my Plasma screen (then I'll watch an action movie e.g. Die Hard 4).

Then I'll see how tired I am and look at the running times which narrow down my choices. If I think I'll fall asleep I'll just put on the TV show boxset.

Thats usually how I overcome the problem but then again I usually just end up playing The Darkness or an old GTA.

I use running time as a deciding factor all the time, if you are trying to fit a movie in before bed after a long day or work I like to stick to 90 minute to two hour movies. If its the weekend I will relax in front of the tv and watch stuff like Lawrence of Arabia.

I own 115 movies that I have never seen (granted at least half of them are my wives movies or tv shows) but that's still a lot.

Same problem here, I've only seen about half of my DVDs.

Whenever I want to watch something, I never go for my unwatched ones, mostly because they're all stuffy slow-paced dramas, and I have to be in the mood for one of those. Which I'm usually not.

But whenever I'm about to go to bed, I'll usually throw on one of my Family Guy or Simpsons seasons.

For fun, a list of DVDs I still need to watch:

Dirty Jobs Collection 1 (almost done with this one actually)
Dirty Jobs Collection 2
Mel Brook's History of the World Part 1
Extras Series Finale
Metalocalypse Season 1
Miracle
Matt Damon Triple Feature (Courage Under Fire, Stuck on You, Titan A.E.)

With more being added every week, which I really need to stop doing.

Tell me. Depending on my mood, I'll watch certain genres or TV-series in a row. I am not always in the mood for a 'good' movie.

I had time and opportuntity (little lifeinsurance got paid out) t buy a 'few' DVD's at one time (means within a couple of months) => I guess 1/4 of my ~ 1600 DVD's I have not seen till now. And since last autumn I am often to tired (health thingy) to even watch something new, then I grab something I know or something with action... where a very tired brain is not such a hinderance (term? hindering?).

TV Show DVDs are also the kiss of death. I've bought so many and I wonder if I'll ever get through all the episodes. Some that I own that I haven't watched all the episodes are:

Babylon 5 - Season 2
Babylon 5 - Season 3 (still wrapped)
Babylon 5 - Season 4 (still wrapped)
Babylon 5 - Season 5 (still wrapped)
Twin Peaks - Season 1 (still wrapped)
Starsky and Hutch - Season 1
Kojak - Season 1
Mission Impossible - Season 1
The Adventures of Superman - Season 1
Lost In Space - Season 1
Freaks and Geeks - The Series
Curb Your Enthusiasm - Season 2
Flight of the Conchords - Season 1

Ugh...I need to stop buying them.

I sit crosslegged in front of my dvds forever, and always seem to just throw Akira or Fight Club on. I got The Wire for xmas, so that's what I watched last nite but I'm on the last disc, so u know I'll be staring at my dvds soon.

I was almost happy because of the writers' strike. Shows were in reruns and I could catch up on my films. Nevermind that I need to catch up on my Letterman shows on the weekend...Sheesh.....

I don't mind owning a lot of tv shows even if it takes me ten times as long to get to them. I watch very little aired tv so most of tv is on dvd that I watch. I usually like a nice hour long show and a half hour show to watch. currently the hour show is Battlestar Galatica at home and Quantum Leap on lunch at work and i think my next half hour show will be Seinfeld as I just finished up all the That 70's Shows seasons.

I am exactly what you described I will sit and just stare at my dvd collection for like a half hour and just decide... oh the hell with it ill just go on the computer... or oh the hell with it ill just play xbox 360. and when I decide I want to watch a movie... one i have already seen comes to mind... im starting to force myself to watch movies that I have not seen... lol
