View Full Version : I dont even watch my dvds
i download dvdrips about a month before they are released, then buy the ones i like. I open them, maybe check out a bonus feature or 2 then i put them on the shelf. I'd say i havent even watched a second of 60% of the movies i own. It seems pointless, but i just love collecting these damn things.
am i the only one?

Okay.
I have a pile of DVDs that are pending to be part of my collection, about thirty-ish titles.
I watch them usually on the weekends a friend's house (a guy I knew since junior high, back when it was called that) and the usual BS.

I probably don't watch as many as I'd like to due to time restraint.

as of lately i have been buying dvds and not watching them even... i know i am going to but both time restraints and the fact that i can never decide what to watch catch up to me i just keep forgetting to watch them... i even have a few that are still in their plastic wrap.

I've seen every DVD I own, but sometimes I question if not watching them again justifies holding onto them.

I let them sit for no more then one week.
If i havent had time to watch last weeks purchase, i dont need to go out and buy this weeks.
That makes me sit down and get to it!
I like unwinding with a movie before/after dinner.

Collecting Dvds is almost like a drug addiction for alot of people. I myself buy more movies than I watch. This is good for two reasons.
1. I always have something new to watch.
2. Half of the fun in watching movies is buying them.

I only buy, or end up keeping the DVDs I can rewatch over and over. I'm always paring down my collection, usually more than I'm adding to it. At this point I've got just over 100 DVDs (don't go by the Joblo "collection", many titles I have aren't listed) and I could watch any of them at least once a week.

if ive seen the movie before i might watch it as soon as i get it. but if i havent seen it i go stright to watching. it only gets bad when i buy a series season and watch it in a week.

I could not have worded it better myself.

Well, this is the one aspect of DVD collecting I just don't understand. When I purchase a DVD, it is for the intention of watching the movie at LEAST twice more and watching all of the bonus features, and after I make a purchase of a few DVDs I make it a habit to watch the movie immediately and eventually take in the bonus features as well. I'll only buy a movie if I see myself in the future getting into a situation in which I will have a strong urge to re-watch it, and thus have it on hand on the shelf in my room. So sorry guys, but I just don't understand it when I see DVDs still sealed in their factory wrapping sitting on the shelves in some of the DVD collection pictures around here...

Generally I'll watch DVDs as soon as I get them and have time, there are a few I still have yet to watch though, mainly because I don't do many re-watches at the moment.

collecting dvds is a great thing to do. I've seen every single one of mine. My blu-ray discs I've only seen once or less.

If you dont watch your dvds, then why do you bother buying them?
basically, if ive seen a movie in the theatres and liked it, i hardly ever watch the dvd. I just want to have it in my collection in case i want to watch it. Years back Blockbuster offered $8 for old dvds, if they ever brought that back, id sell them 100 dvds no problem
also on that topic, i buy movies on the tuesday they come out, then they are at blockbuster 3 weeks later, previewed for half price. theres no reason to ever buy a movie that isnt a special edition again. I bought sunshine for 19.99, watched it, now it sits on the shelf. i saw it at blockbuster for $14.99 today and it will be 9.99 soon. I'm just gonna be smarter with my purchases now

I haven't watched some of the DVDs I bought yet (though I have seen the movies); some I've had for over a year now. I do rewatch a lot of them though.

I have the same problem. I buy a lot of DVDs and don't have time to watch them all because of my work schedule. But most of them are on sale for el-cheapo and one day my goal is to watch them all.
I have slowed my purchasing because most things eventually go on sale for $4 - $10...plus I am waiting to go blu-ray too.
collecting is a habit for some people...i am definitely one of them. dvds aren't the only things i have way too many of!
