God of War

So what's the best? I loved "The Negotiator" hostage situation. Sam Jackson was uber-awesome in that as well as that other dude. Forget his name. The main negotiator dude. What are the best of these scenes?

You mean Kevin Spacey?
The Negotiator was great.
I also enjoyed the movie Hostage with Bruce Willis though I didn't care for the ending.
And one of the most underrated movies ever is a movie called Mad City with John Travolta and Dustin Hoffman. Great movie.

The movie wasn't great but Swordfish had a great hostage sequence.:D plus it had a nice 360° angle 'action' sequence..... And the 'laptopscene' I found very funny too

The Rock
Hard Boiled - Hospital hostages
Die Hard
The Jackal - final confrontation
I suppose these are more like circumstantial hostages because of the robberies taking place, but...
Heat - technically, Sizemore takes a little girl hostage while trying to escape
Pulp Fiction
Inside Man

This isn't the best movie with a hostage situation, but best hostage situation in a movie, right?

Yeah. It's so good cuz it's true. I like the bank hostage scene in Quick Change because it sorta sends up the whole situation. Bill Murray's a riot.

Yup, best hostage situation in a movie. Then that tips it to Inside Man (although, as mentioned, Dog Day Afternoon and Killing Zoe are also quality films.)

Metro with Eddie Murphy has some great hostage scenes as well.
Can't believe I forgot about the Die Hard flicks. Shame on me. Even though the first one is the best movie, the second has the cooler hostage situation IMO.

John Q... Because what drives him to take hostages is crazy..... (Dog Day Afternoon definitely the best hands down. "Attica! Attica!")

Hi guys,
This thread is great! and I'd love to see some of may favorite movies here.
As part of a psychology course I'm looking for hostage films where the film showed the psychologist that negotiated with the criminals.
Do you know of any films that show hostage situations with more psychological analysis that was put into them?
Thanks for any tip.

Panic Room provided an interesting twist on the hostage situation, that is being a hostage in your 'safe' place.
Not the best... just different.

Thanks hasselbrad, that's a great suggestion. Unfortunately I need to stay focused on police psychologists.

Sorry... I was just responding to the original post. For your angle, I think The Negotiator would probably be the best since it focuses on that aspect and the psychology of the job.
