View Full Version : Crappy Dvds That You Buy Just To Complete A Set?

My first example is Jaws. I love the original. And Jaws 2 isn't too bad. But parts 3 and 4 are shite. But I still have them, just so I have the whole set. What dvd movie do you own that has crappy sequels that you bought just to complete the sets?
Tremors is great fun. Part 2 is ok. But I hated parts 3 and 4. But I still got them. Graboids! :p

I used to care, but these days I don't really give a shit.
My only concern is season 7 of Smallville. Season 4 was bad, season 5 even worse, and season 6 was just a little better.
If season 7 is the last, I might think about getting it. Just to complete the series.
If not, then fuck it, I will go back to not worrying about completing my movie series' again.

I liked Jaws 2. It's not nearly as great as the first one, of course, but it's still pretty good imo.
But you think all of the sequels are shit, then why bother? Just ignore them and only have the first one.
It makes more sense to want to buy bad sequels if maybe half of them you like, while maybe not liking the other half. But if you hate ALL of the sequels, it doesn't make much sense to me to buy any of them.

Yeah, there's 7, and The Howling 3: The Marsupials is the best of the bunch :D
And no, I wont buy just to complete a set, the only times that'll happen would be if it were part of a box set that worked out cheaper than buying the good films individually.

I'm actually pretty good about this...if the movie was completely terrible I won't add it into the collection. There are a few exceptions:
I admit to owning all four Critters movies. But I got them all for about $4 each and it is pretty hilarious seeing Leonardo DiCaprio in Critters 3!
I have the Alien Quadrilogy which was worth the $25 i paid just for Alien and Aliens!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III...yeah this one I don't really have an excuse for.
I don't have Spider-Man 3 or Pirates 3 yet but I sense myself owning them eventually.

There's obviously the Batman Motion Picture Anthology set which comes with the dreaded Batman & Robin...but the thing of it is, I got it the day it came out (same day as Batman Begins), and it was around 60 dollars at the time. The individual releases of each Batman special edition DVDs were 25 dollars each, so even if you hate the Schumacher films and just want the first two Burton ones, you might as well get the set anyway because essentially you are getting Batman Forever for half off and Batman & Robin for free, and you also get that lovely sense of completion and a pretty cool case. So it's all alright.
Also since I'm such a big fan of the Alien movies I just had to buy that peice of shit Alien Vs. Predator, and will probably get AVP:R (which...well, peice of shit can't even begin to describe that one) eventually.

Hey. The Spider-Man 3 DVD isn't necessarily a crappy one. The supplemental stuff is on par with the previous two flicks. Unfortunately, nothing in those extras (that I've discovered anyway) explains why the movie itself sucks so hard.

a fucking waste of money.. why buy it to "complete" a set?
i hated the bourne ultimatum, but own the first two. I own the original JAWS, the sequels aren't movies. I would never buy MIBII or the 3 shitty avp movies.
seems ridiculous to buy shit youll never watch, just to have it.

I have some because I'm completes if I have more then one in the series. If I have one movie out of the series it does not bother me at all. I have Jaws. I'm not completeing that because I just have one movie out of the series. If that make since
with watching them all. Once I started watching certain series I complete watching it including the bad ones.

most i have only with box sets, alien resurrection, nightmare on elm street sequels (though they do have an entertainment factor), The Matrix Revolutions, etc.
I do own Austin Powers: Goldmember, even though i didn't care for it as much as the previous installments. I also have Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, which i don't think has much if any redeeming value when held up to even the other two prequels. I did have T3 to complete the trilogy, then after watching it again i got furious and gave it away.
hmmmmm.
i do proudly have Psycho 2 on my shelf. :)

I refused to get that because of my disdain for both Batman Forever and Batman & Robin! I just got the Burton flicks separately on Columbia House for about $9 each.
I hadn't seen Alien: Ressurrection when I bought the Quadrilogy....I still haven't watched it! lol

For as much hate as Star Wars: Episode II gets, it has a lot of fun parts. True, the corny love dialogue is at an all-time high. But no Star Wars geek can resist getting excited over Yoda's first light-saber battle, seeing Jango Fett and Obi-Wan go at it hand-to-hand and in space combat, Obi-Wan and Anakin chasing down Zam in space traffic, or watching Mace Windu and the other Jedis clean house at the Genonosian arena! Plus R2 got jetpac boosters in that bitch!

Alien Resurrection is actually my favorite of the series!!
now, as far as being a completist despite shit put to disc...Terminator 3, Spiderman 3, Pirates 2 and 3, all of the nightmare on elm st. movies after part 2, Halloween 3 (I HATE THAT FUCKING MOVIE), Basic Instinct 2.

I like Alien Resurrection a little more than Alien3. I'm not that much of a completist, but I did give in to the urge to get POT 3. It's not that bad. I'm mainly a completist when it comes to my favorite actor, Edward Norton. I must own everything he's done!

I hope so, Spacey has always been my favorite actor. I actually enjoyed Beyond The Sea, but I'll agree that he has slowly gone down hill. You have to admit that he was a badass Lex Luthor. :D

As much of a Disney freak that i am, I have avoided most of these direct-to-DVD sequels. I think I have Lion King 1 1/2 and maybe Tarzan 2. Not that Tarzan & Jane trash, I don't know what they were smoking when they made that one! I think the only one that is worse is Hunchback of Notre Dame II where Quasi falls in love with Jennifer Love Huge-Tits.

I generally avoid the crappy sequels. The ones I do have were part of a box set, including:
Alien: Resurrection (which hardly counts, since any fan of the first three HAD to get the Quadrilogy set)
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

My gawd! I would kill to have a beard like Ryan Reynolds. Not only did he at one point get to sleep with Alanis but he gets to look like a total bad ass when he has facial hair. Bastard. . .
Well I did buy Elektra only because I have Daredevil, god Elektra is awful but the DC of DD is decent, at least.
On the subject of Marvel movies, I've also got Ghost Rider, Blade Trinity, X3, Spider-Man 3, Hulk and the FF movies, because I wanted all of the Marvel movies for kicks.
Meh.

Yeah I bought the Elektra 2 disc director's cut so it would match......I also bought all the Marvel movies.....at one point I had the 89 Punisher and Man-Thing on my shelf....I decided they weren't necessary in the long run though. I did hold onto Elektra just because Jennifer Garner looks real good in it, and the opening scene is pretty cool.
I debated buying Man-Thing, but I knew I would regret it .. if some of the theatrical Marvel films are that bad, I can only imagine one that's a Made For TV Movie ...

it debuted on Sci-Fi channel if that tells you anything.:D

I'm usually a completist when it comes to big franchises (Halloween, Friday The 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Hellraiser, etc.) even though I know not every film is that good, they can be good for reference. I hate to overspend so if I find a good deal I'll take the plunge. A recent example would be with Species. I never really paid much attention to the first film, but I had an urge to check it out. I went to my local used DVD store and came out with all 4 Species films for about $15.
From what I hear they get progressively worse and I only watched the original. I do have a bad habit of buying films and end up leaving them on my shelf for a year before I watch them, or decide to trade them in before I ever even watched them - I'm contemplating doing this with the Species sequels.
