Having very recently seen both of these movies. I can honestly say that I really enjoyed both of them. I have not seen a new Kevin Bacon movie in quite a long time, and Death Sentence was a fun ride of revenge.
Same goes for Jodie Foster in The Brave One. I'm a sucker for Jodie's movies. Although, ironically, I could never stomach her or her performances. But this film is yet another in her roles that I really loved.
Which of these two tales of revenge do you prefer and why?
For me, it's a difficult choice. But I'm leaning more towards Death Sentence.

Death Sentence hands down...modern day taxi driver in my opinion.

Death Sentence, partly because I didn't find Foster as believable as Bacon.

I personally really liked both. But between both, I gotta say I did Like death Sentence, I found them both believable, but I thought The Brave One was more dramatic with a little bit of action, where as Death Sentence was a straight up Action/Revenge Flick, with a little bit of Drama. Before when I asked this with a poll of 6-0, with Death Sentence getting all the votes, maybe now people have seen both and can determine.

Also between the Posters I gotta say Both Movies had some good posters, but I again liked Death Sentence's posters much more, one because Jodie Foster doesn't look like she's holding the gun, and the other The Brave one poster was alright. Where as I really liked all the Death Sentence Posters.

On a note of the Red Death Sentence Poster remind you of the Falling Down poster with Micheal Douglas, an equally great movie.

Death Sentence has balls. It was sad, tragic, brutal all the way through and Kevin Bacon gives a truly powerhouse performance. A VERY good movie.
The Brave One has an okay performance from Jodie Foster and a very good performance from Terrance Howard but the begining of the movie is VERY rushed. The middle section of the movie was okay. And then comes the ending. I hated it. The movie ends up being totally gutless, the opposite of Death Sentence.
Death Sentence has the courage of it's own conviction. The Brave One totally cheats in the end and doesn't have the guts to end the way it SHOULD of ended.
Death Sentence - 7/10
The Brave One - 6/10

Death Sentence - 8.5/10
The Brave One - 5/10
I thought Death Sentence was a ballsy and at times somewhat unpredictible take on revenge. Good acting by all and has some surprising violence at points.
Brave One was way too predictible and pretentious. It's also a bit overlong and dull at points as well. It's pretty much the opposite of Death Sentence and I thought it's the first movie where Terrence Howard was meh. Jodie Foster's very good performance is pretty much the saving grace, although to be honest her character kind of grated me at points with all the monologues about how she is a stranger now and how she used to love New York.

Not seen The Brave One yet. Death Sentence was trash. And I mean that in a good way. It was a b-movie with an a-list performance at it's core (courtesy of Kevin Bacon). I loved it.

Death Sentence - 8/10
The Brave One - 4/10
The Brave One was a shit movie that made no fucking sense whatsoever. Just cause her boyfriend is killed she goes on to kill random bad people. Stupid fucking concept. At least Bacon had some sort of logical reasoning behind his revenge.

I thought The Brave One was a lot better. Death Sentence got pretty boring and I've never been a fan of straight up revenge movies of the Charles Bronson type. DS was certainly that but The Brave One was better in terms of the overall picture. But I still wouldn't watch either a 2nd time.
DS: 5/10
The Brave One: 7/10

ATTENTION: SPOILER WARNING!
Definitely Death Sentence... The Brave One was fuckin' gay! It just wasn't believable at all! And was it just me or was the plot extremely easy to call? Like the whole ending was so predictable in my opinion. Where as Death Sentence on the other hand had just the right amount of action and sappiness. (I cried at the end. What can I say? It was sad. lol) Just the whole sequence at the beginning with the home movies showing the love for his older son through the years was beautiful done. And then at the end when Kev sits down to watch the home movies, crying as he begins to meet his demise and the cop tells him the news about his younger son. THAT WAS FUCKED UP! Dude, I seriously got teary eyed.

Well, the original Death Wish did the same thing. Paul Kersey was out killing "random bad people" and no one complained. Many consider it to be a classic. To be honest, that's the same reason why I really didn't understand the hype for Death Wish. It was alright... not great. It just bothered me that he never got the guys that did that to his wife and daughter. AND THERE WAS 5 MOVIES! When I saw The Brave One that's EXACTLY what I thought... Oh, a female Death Wish, great. Don't know if any of you guys knew this but Death Sentence is actually a sequel or continuation to Death Wish in Brain Garfield's book series. But the book really has nothing to do with the movie...

I think both films were flawed in parts, I think that Kevin Bacon gave an outstanding performance. SPOILERS BELOW!!!
The scene when he takes his machete wounded son to the hospital and is showing pictures of him to the nurse saying "that's my boy, please save him that's my son) in that watery choked up voice I have to admit it rose up a few boo-hoos in yours truly. I loved the scene at the end when his goes completely "fuck it all" and shaves his head etc, I thought it was brilliant showing him fumbling with the weapons and showing that he really IS just a regular guy with no experience. The Brave One had a woman (I'm assuming) with real shooting skills popping people off like it's as easy as pouring milk over cereal. I dunno, I didn't buy it 100% and the ending was a definite cheat I think.
