Hey everybody,
Along with the new "Incredible Hulk" trailer tonight comes a brand-new and most likely final trailer for "Speed Racer" and I have to admit, I'm really warming up to this movie now. That on top of the early screenings saying the movie is awesome also helps with my decision to see it or not. This latest trailer really impressed me though and on a technical standpoint, this movie looks like it will blow our effin' socks off. Is it just me or does Matthew Fox fit the part of Racer X to perfection? I think I'm definitely going to see it on opening day now for sure! Go Speed Racer! :)

P.S. If this shot doesn't give you a visual orgasm, I don't know what does....

I had just watched and it does look really nice. By the look of the trailers so far it seems really good. I don't think they will get the g or pg rating. But this movie seems like a sick movie that if your on some drugs you will go crazy.

Now this might be a movie I'd watch solely for the visuals. I don't even like CGI much but this looks fucking great. I wonder if the Wachowskis were on acid when they described the visuals to their concept artists. :)

Not a big fan of Speed Racer...but this movie looks pretty cool. The effects look great and I hope to see some new innovative filming techniques with the Wachowski Bros.
Count me in on opening weekend!
Iron Man first, then Speed Racer, then Indiana Jones.... looks like a great month for movie watching for me!

I don't know, guys. I'm not really digging this... it's just too much. It looks too fake, too cartoon-ey, too computer-game-ish. If they wanted to go this way they should have just made it all animated and gotten it over with. I mean, there isn't even an ATTEMPT at realism. Silly and fun? Maybe. But I'm not digging the style at all... sorry!

The new trailer has me a little less worried about this film, the effects don't look nearly as bad as they did at first. I have the feeling that if I see it at the cinema though I'll be seeing crazy colours for days :p.

AMEN! I seriously do not understand the love for this. The pictures alone are enough to make someone go color-blind or want to blind themselves. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: this looks like something Joel Schumacher would make, only with less homoeroticism.

The more I see of this movie, the more I like it. The vibrant colors are perfect (dazzling/trippy/slightly unique). The cast is quite a bit of well-knowns (Matthew Fox is the man:D) I think it's going to be a really fun movie that can allow you to leave your brain at the door. Although if you have epilepsy, this probably isn't for you:rolleyes: I'm just trying to picture what it'd be like on IMAX... Quite an experience. The positive test screening/script reviews also helped raise my anticipation (and I'm a fan of the original cartoon) so count me in as one of the excited bunch:D

I like that it's got that crazy vibe of the cartoon, and I actually am also warming up to the cartoony visuals. It could be pretty cool if it's kept tight and rolling. Whatever happens, they've definitely got my interest with these trailers. Plus, you cannot beat the cast. Christina Ricci was born to play Trixie.

Just saw the trailer that is on the I Am Legend DVD.
Not impressed, thought it looked like complete crap. Don't want to rain on anyone's parade though, so that's all I'll say about it.

it looks creative. its a bit odd though, i mean in ten years video games will look just like that.
i'm not the biggest fan of digital racing, i didn't find the pod race in episode one very exiting. i only like cars when i know its real, when people are risking their shit like in Days of Thunder, Vanishing Point and Two Lane Blacktop.

They already do.
But that's the point. The whole thing is supposed to look hyper-stylised; part video game, part animé, part live action ;)

I don't think it matters how the race is done with regards to visual effects.
I think what counts is that the story before, during and after the race supports and sustains the tension that is so necessary to make such scenes work.
The Wachowskis are highly capable writers, and films like Bound show that they can do the simple suspense cinema better than most. I have faith.

Jesus... What do you say to images like that? Utterly sublime.
You almost get the feeling that the Wachowskis sat down with their with virtual paint brushes, lovingly crafting every frame of the film. Now I really understand the whole "Blade Runner meets Andy Warhol meets pop art" thing Emile Hirsch was going on about when he first signed on to do the film.
If nothing else, I think this film looks set to be nominated for an Academy Award in art design, with a very real chance of a win.

What do I say to images like that? Garish.
When I'm working in Maya, and get pissed off with a render for not working right and there doesn't seem to be an available workaround, in frustration I'll just start throwing colored lights and negative lights at it till it looks ridiculous, so I can at least be mildly amused before I scrap the thing and start over. Had I known people would be talking about academy awards for creating something like that, I would've kept all those pieces of shit and used them to snag lead designer for Speed Racer.

Haha...yeah, but you're not a lead designer :D
As with Blade Runner before it, it's obvious that Speed Racer is overloading on a lot of experimental and unorthodox lighting techniques. And, like Blade Runner, they don't always have a reason or a source (I'm thinking specifically of the water-reflected light source in Tyrell's office), but they succeed in bringing scenes of fantasy worlds to vivid life.
That's obviously what Speed Racer is doing.

^ Awesome pics:D I just got the latest issue of Entertainment and there was a whole section on this film. Did anyone know that Johnny Depp was the original choice for Speed a few years back? That would've been something! Also I hear they'll be revamping the show's original theme "Here he comes..." but I wonder what artist they'll choose to remix it (I'm thinking Greenday). I'm hoping this will be playing on the IMAX near me (some films do, some don't) because this would visually be something worth seeing on a gigantic screen.

Yeah, the pictures are looking fantastic.
They're looking a lot more detailed and real. Not as plastic-like as they did before.
But the Wachowskis are apparently in a mad dash to finish a HUGE number of shots before release, and I just hope that all the shots are up to the mark.

I'll be honest, I have my doubts about IMAX.
I mean, it's already melting the eyeballs on a small monitor.
By the time you get to the theater, I'm sure it will be an unforgettably exhilarating experience.
But I wonder if IMAX might be a little too much. I don't know. We'll have to wait and see...
What's insane is that some people are actually saying they want to see it in IMAX 3D. I mean, it's practically 3D anyway!!! :D
Whatever happens, though, I'm sure this will be one of those big screen experiences you'll cherish for a lifetime.
Is anyone else noticing this Mach 6 business?
Does the mach 5 get destroyed?
There's been speculation.
But the Mach 5 and Mach 6 have both appeared in promo shots. So we'll see.
