Glad to know it won't be bare-bones as IGN was reporting.

As for the packaging, unless Best Buy's got a mind-blowing exclusive (I don't have an FYE in my area), I'll probably wind up using a custom design.

Don't get too excited about the alternate endings, they're pretty bland. The only thing that's alternate is what comes after the 'ending'. They change the ferris-wheel "This is the best day EVER!" to something else (in my opinion, both aren't as cool as the original one).

But I'm very excited about this. I'm sure it won't have anything against watching it in theatres, but this masterpiece needs to be owned by me.

Nope. Trust me, I'm not immune, cause I get MAJOR car sickness sitting in the back seat, but this... actually felt fine. Maybe it's cause of all the First Person Shooter games I play, but I had no problem with it.

Per Locke's spoiler alert...

Never knew about that, so I checked out my "copy" and yup... it's there. Now, let the speculation begin as to what it is.

I keep reading stuff over and over again about the splash at the end, that's the creature.

No.

The movie had tons of viral marketing, each telling you a snippet - only when you look at the whole can you get the big picture. I'm just gonna copy and paste this. Too tired trying to explain it at other message boards.

The following was written by a fellow screen named Red4. I've added additional info where needed.

Diagram of falling object:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2251/2219458232_8e1b9e2a96_o.png

I've sorted this info into sections:
Section1: Rob's Job, and Tagruato's Activities
Section2: The Parasites, and Marlena
Section3: Jamie, Teddy, and TIDOwave
Section4: Lily's Survival, Beth's Shoulder, Rob's Friends Joining Him, and the Indestructible Camera
Section5: Hammerdown and Clovie
Section6: Slusho's Secret Ingredient - Sea Nectar, and Its Side Effects

>>>> Section1: Rob's Job, and Tagruato's Activities
Rob was going to Japan to start his job as Vice President of Marketing for Slusho in America. Slusho is owned by Tagruato. The secret ingredient in Slusho (which is a slushee-type drink) is taken from "something" at the bottom of the ocean. Tagruato's mining platforms in the ocean **14 drilling stations all named after Japanese emperors** also doubled as harvesting stations for this special ingredient. Somehow, Tagruato's activities were more suspicious than we thought. TIDOwave was wise to this stuff, and tried to do something about it. Teddy, Jamie's boyfriend, joined TIDOwave to help stop Tagruato. Teddy got caught. Jamie didn't believe it; she thought Teddy was cheating on her. So she became an alcoholic, and the last time we see her is on Rob's couch, passed out.

The object falling from the sky is a piece of a Japanese satellite. The Tagruato website even has a fake article mentioning this.

My theory is: Tagruato realized they were being spied on by satellite (Japan's satellites, to be exact **ChimpanzIII**). So they staged a sabotage, which caused a "piece of satellite to fall to the ocean". This would allow Tagruato to continue their mysterious activities, without any nearby satellites taking notice. That's my theory about the object falling from the sky.

Whatever Tagruato was doing, they either awoke Clovie **Clover**, or lost control of him. The Manhattan Incident is a direct result of Tagruato's corruption.

Also, a Tagruato article states that TIDOwave agents were to blame for Chaui Station's collapse. This is Tagruato's attempt to cover up the fact that they're actually doing something suspicious with a giant monster. Thus, it was Clovie who destroyed Chaui Station.

Also, Chaui Station was near NYC; it was in the general vicinity in the Atlantic Oean. Clovie just so happened to arrive in NYC because it was the closest land mass he could reach - he was running away from Tagruato.

Tagruato's subsidiaries seem to be very suspicious:
Yoshida Medical Research - Genetic research, and deep sea bioprospecting
Slusho - Narcotic effects
Bold Futura - Supplying the satellite which captured images of the object falling into the ocean
Parafun Wax - Preparing specimens for histology (study of skin tissue)

>>>> Section2: The Parasites, and Marlena
Some of you believe the bugs are symbiotic creatures, living on Clovie. But they're actually parasites. There's bits of evidence here and there. "Parasite" was one of the working titles for Cloverfield. Knowing J.J. Abrams, you can take that as a clue about something. In this case, it's a clue about the bugs. Secondly, Clovie scratched them off his back. Why? They probably made him itch, such as parasites will do. Third, this has to do with Clovie being impervious to bombs and missiles, and also to do with Marlena exploding: The parasites create a very strong acidic enzyme that eats through flesh with explosive effects. Clovie, being immune to bombs, will barely develop an itchy bump when a parasite bites him. But if a parasite bites a human, the human will explode (because we can't cope with the parasite's venom like Clovie can).

>>>> Section3: Jamie, Teddy, and TIDOwave
Jamie and Teddy were a couple. Teddy went away on a job of some kind. This detail is actually obsure, but we know he left. Jamie sent Teddy video blogs about how she misses him, and about what she's up to. Turns out Teddy actually joined TIDOwave: A union of extremists bent on bringing down Tagruato, and stopping Tagruato's ecologically-dangerous activities (such as their involvement in Clovie, the monster). Teddy sends Jamie a distress recording in which he divulges the following statement "They either made something, or they found something". The "something" here is Clovie. Jamie doesn't buy it; she thinks it's Teddy's cowardly way of admitting he's been cheating on her. The next thing we know, Jamie's passed out on Rob's couch. Oh, and Jamie and Teddy are loose-knit friends of Rob: That's why Jamie was at the party; all friends were invited. Teddy is probably dead, having been murdered by Tagruato's dirty-workers.

>>>> Section4: Lily's Survival, Beth's Shoulder, Rob's Friends Joining Him, and the Indestructible Camera
Rob's friends went with him because they chose to. Rob told them on two clear occasions to
let him go by himself.

Lily survived; this is obvious because Hud simply makes no mention of Lily being in danger he makes no mention of her helicopter. Although, it is plausible that Lily died afterward, but the events in the movie itself do not allude to it.

Throughout the movie, before Hammerdown is executed, the camera is only dropped twice. These drops didn't necessarily look very harsh. Therefore, it could have survived in a very plausible way. But when Hammerdown is executed, it is possible that the camera was trapped in a tiny cave of rocks. It probably wasn't crushed. Instead, the rocks piled around it in a way that actually protected it.

SD or Video Tape - I actually do not know how to answer this. Based on the other amazing functions of the camera, we can assume it's a fictitious model. Therefore, we can assume it probably reads/records using both SD and Video Tape. The SD probably recorded the forward and backward activity of the Video Tape as one progressive product. Thus, playing the SD forward will show you the movie as it appears to us at the theater. The battery life did NOT last 7 hours. Hud ONLY recorded what we saw in theaters. It is meant to be shown in its raw form.

Beth was impaled just below the left collarbone, and above the left breast. Her aorta and carotid artery were missed, as they're in the neck, and stem down into the general area of the lungs and heart. Her lungs and heart were perfectly intact. If anything, her left arm would've been numb. Also, the rod was attached to a chunk of cement. Beth fell ON TO the rod. It pierced the entire girth of her upper torso, having entered through her back.

>>>> Section5: Hammerdown and Clovie
It isn't a nuke. If it was, the camera wouldn't have survived. There is simply no question about it. And yes, the camera DID survive - it managed to record the voice of SOMEONE saying "It's still alive". As for this being Rob's voice, we can't be sure. It is possible by some stretch.

Why did Clovie STAY in Manhattan for so long?
The military wanted to make sure they didn't lose their sights on him. If Clovie jumped back in the ocean, he would be a lot harder to track. Therefore, the military attacked him from all sides, at all times, to ensure that he remained on land. This would, in theory, allow them to control him more easily (god knows that didn't work).

>>>> Section6: Slusho's Secret Ingredient - Sea Nectar, and Its Side Effects
If you follow the viral marketing, and you read the fake news articles, you'll find that Slusho appears to contain mood-inducing chemicals. For the most part, it makes people happy. It is possibly a narcotic. Also, there is a fake commercial for Slusho, which depicts a man savagely trying to get at some Slusho. We are lead to believe that Slusho can cause an addiction. Jamie tastes the secret ingredient, unknowingly, when she eats the raw sample sent to her by Teddy. Jamie expresses her enjoyment of the substance, stating "This is really good". Keep in mind though, the sample came with a warning explicitly stating NOT to eat it. Later on, Jamie becomes unstably angry. This is likely due to something in the raw substance.

This quote is from Spiritwarriorforholytrin, an alleged US Army anesthesiologist on the topic of Marlena's death...

The parasite when they bite release some kind of extremely destructive toxin into the bloodstream... once the toxin goes into the blood stream it affects the body's vital organs. The toxins then probably increase the metabolic rate and increases the body's internal functions such as heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, temperature (extremely elevated because of the infection the toxins cause and also the effect on the body's metabolism), etc...

The fact that Marlena stated that she was becoming dizzy was because of the increase in her blood pressure (complaints of dizziness can occur in both hypertension [because of the extreme increase in blood circulation and hence blood pressure as blood fills up the central nervous system] and more so in hypotension [because of the decreased blood circulation and hence decreased blood pressure]). With this increased metabolic rate, the workload of the heart becomes faster and faster and faster. The kidneys do the same and the liver.

They work so hard that it has become too much for the body to bear that everything just atrophies and these organs get damaged because of the excessive workload so much so that the liver's clotting factors get damaged, the heart's ability to pump blood get compromised and the kidneys also get damaged that fluid starts to back up and accumulate within the body. With the liver damage and its subsequent effect on clotting factors, the body internally then begins to suffer from massive and excessive bleeding.

With the rapid respiratory rate, the person accumulates so much oxygen in the body that it affects the person's arterial blood gas balance and the patient goes into both metabolic and respiratory acidosis because of the eventual accumulation of carbon dioxide. The person's breathing increases so much that it is affecting ABG balance and puts so much work into the lungs and the lungs eventually collapse, thereby compromising the lung's ability to release carbon dioxide.

The person then goes into severe atelectasis and acute respiratory distress syndrome. These factors, massive bleeding and fluid overload, lung collapse and the subsequent carbon dioxide accumulation, ARDS, and severe arterial blood gas imbalance, come to a critical mass and the body cannot keep up with this anymore as the hypermetabolic rate continues... proper homeostasis cannot be maintained any longer and the body deals with this, first by bleeding (bleeding out of the eyes and mouth to excrete the blood that has accumulated too much within the body) and vomiting blood (also to try to put out the accumulated blood and fluid in the body) and then eventually and ultimately, by just bursting, like a balloon full of too much water.

As for Lily... her fate is in the film. Listen to the radio chatter when Rob, Beth and Hud enter their chopper after Lily's helicopter took off.

Hud = Heads Up Display, he was the camera.

Cloverfield = The name of the street that the production offices were in.

Clover is in fact a newborn which is why it had difficulty walking. It's been asleep at the bottom of the ocean for thousands of years (from J.J. Abrams' production notes).

There you have it. Not the full story. Not by a long shot.

I think a sequel would work through the camera of one of the news reporters. I loved this movie, it felt like I was experiencing the Kongfrontation ride at Universal Studios but x 10. Great atmosphere. I know it comes out tomorrow but id like to find a store that breaks the street date just to see this movie again.

I really don't care about another Cloverfield movie. The first one worked just fine, and it was a decent movie but it wasn't anything amazing. People make sequels too much, and this is one that really doesn't require a sequel (it's hard to find any real big movie that I can just enjoy on its own without having to worry about them tacking on an open ending and an eventual sequel).

As far as the DVD is concerned, until I actually start working again this summer I'm kinda low on cash so I'll probably hold off on this one for now, or just rent it and then wait for the eventual hi def release (which is more likely).

Fuck man combine all my dvds I don't even know. I got over 300 dvds still sealed in the shrinkwrape. I got over 40 blu-rays still sealed as well.

I love movies and I but nonstop all the time but never have time to watch them. It's heartbreaking.

Damn man...sounds like a hell of a collection. Actually, I'm 21 years old too, I've been collecting for about 3 years. I bought a few films when I was in high school, but my collecting really started after I graduated and started to work. I'm only up to like 350 dvd's not counting tv shows and such. I agree with you though: nows the time to build up the collection when your totally free of anything like a mortgage or other bills. My parents and friends don't understand why I have such a large collection (which is just a fraction of a lot of schmoes), but I just want to get my collection to a point where I think it's perfect to me and when I do go to buy a house, all I'll want to add to my collection will be new releases.

If that's some kind of insult, it backfired on you.

I still don't get why people shoot down Xage and #1DvdFan for buying the multiple copies. I mean jeez, I enjoy seeing all the exclusives and if everybody's being a dick about it, they'll stop posting the pics. Once again, it's their money! If you would rather get the exclusives and actually collect the DVD's instead of cheaping out and getting the worst edition you can get to save 4 bucks, so you can go buy another cheap DVD at blockbuster, they wouldn't get pissed at you, so just chill out.

I don't mean to be an ass. Just trying to make a point.

It's not posted in this thread!!! check "what's the latest dvd you picked up everyone" I first posted there cause I bought the steelbook first on Tuesday the day of the release I resereved it. I may have posted the pic on Fri im not sure double check the date I posted cause I was busy.

I didn't post in here cause I didn't see it till Saturday morning as you can read my post. I fell so much in love with this movie I had to go out and get all the "OTHER" exclusives cause I didn't care before as I do now.

UPDATE

I just checked and I was right I posted on Tuesday.

Well, I got both exclusives I could get. Best Buy and FutureShop. I'm happy until the Blu-Ray hits, and it had fucking BETTER be jammed with DIFFERENT shit than these versions... but I'm not holding my breath.

I found something.

Last night I was re-watching the DVD with the commentary.

I noticed something I didn't the first time around - something big (well at least I think so).

When Hud was on the bridge shooting the missing head off the Statue of Liberty; he did a quick zoom-in on the burning tanker.

The tanker is Tagruato!

Did Clover follow the tanker (probably full if that 'sea nectar') to New York?

Wait, I'll speak in your language so you can understand me.

plz go awy u stpd dchebg.

Get it yet?

Don't disrespect Dvdfan or Xage, because they are the two greatest DVD collectors I have EVER seen without a doubt, and YOU should SHUT the FUCK up.

....

On a side note, I love Cloverfield and randomly got a free poster today. I'm up to a t-shirt, a poster and the steelbook of the DVD. I'd really like to have that book though.

You have my respect dude ever since, as probably your are one of those few who understands the deep meaning why collectors like us would go a step further in owning multiple dvd copies of a one title.

Can i be a DVD collector also?? I own over 2000 DVD's, numerous ones of which i bought and never watched... also a few flicks i bought because "I liked the cover" even though i hated them in theaters (HULK, xXx...)!!

Can anyone list all the Easter Eggs in one nice post? I read the thread but couldnt cipher where they all are at...

also if someone could put that whole post about the Japanese Slusho or what not into Lay mans terms, i'd greatly appreciate it!

Easter Egg #1:

Select 'Set Up', then put the cursor 'Espanol' and press RIGHT. A red helicopter will appear highlighted. Click it for a short.

Hidden Menu:

Select 'Scene Selections' and select '13-16'. Let it sit until the option for '17' appears on the lower bar next to '13-16'. Select '17', and then select the box itself.

Hidden Menu Walkthrough:

Select 'USGX-8810-B467-13VD' and a hidden option will appear. Click. You'll be brought to another menu screen with four clips.

Select 'USGX-8810-B467-34VD' and a hidden option will appear. Click. You'll be brought to another menu screen. Move the brown cursor over the last oval shape. Select it for another easter egg.

Select 'USGX-8810-B467-144VD' and a hidden option will appear. Click. You'll be brought to another menu screen. Select 'Video #2' for an easter egg. Select 'Video #5' for an easter egg. Select 'Video #9' for an easter egg. Select 'Video #11' for an easter egg.

...and that's all I know for now.
