So, inspired by a recent conversation, I wanted to see how many of you differentiate between your favorite films and what you consider to be the greatest films ever made. Granted the latter list is harder because of the huge amount of films that exist but a rough, approximate and not necesserily in order list should be easier.
Feel free of course to discuss and/or explain your and other's choices. :D
Not in particular orders,

Yes I do differentiate between greatest/favorite. I can appriciate that There Will Be Blood is a great film, but i don't like it. The subject just doesn't interest me much. Generally when i make lists, i know there not the "Greats", but the movies i enjoy. Or love.

I've never seen 'Once Upon a Time in America'. The IMDb page (http://imdb.com/title/tt0087843/) is a bit of a turn-off though. The first two plot keywords are "masturbation" and "anal sex". Wow...

I do differentiate a bit, but not by much.
My favorite flick is Unforgiven, but I consider The Godfather to be the greatest movie ever made, and that's my second favorite movie.

Hehe I accidentally misread the lists and thought you were putting Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Maximum Overdrive and Nightmare on Elm Street as the BEST movies of all time.
Sport reserve, I guess.

Don't let the first two plot keywords fool you. Just think of these plot keywords: "Gangster" and "Epic"

I think that my favorite is also the best... the Godfather
Powerslave

I've always thought the two are different, probably in varying degrees from person to person. If I were to make two lists, I think they'd probably be about 50% the same. My favorite movie is The Star Wars Trilogy, but Raging Bull is the greatest movie ever made as far as I'm concerned. Raging Bull is also my second favorite movie. Other 'Greatest' movies are also in my top ten, such as The Godfather, Seven Samurai, Ikiru, Apocalypse Now, and Sansho the Bailiff.
