I generally find Robin Williams funnier, ignoring his recent status in his film career.

When it comes to stand up, I can't go against Williams, he's just hilarious when on stage.

Robin Williams is funnier and he can play dark roles as well. One Hour Photo and Insomnia. And I loved him in Death to Smoochy.

With standup it's Williams. With drama I think it's also Williams but with Comedy films I give it to Carey. Also when it comes to interviews I give it to Carey because Williams annoys me to no end with his ADD.

I have not seen much stand up from both guys. Robin Williams annoys me with live/action movies but when it comes to voiceover He does not annoy me. Carrey is alight. He is hit or miss for me. I perfer his older stuff. I do love Carrey fire dude character from In living color

I haven't seen much of either standup but I agree with everything except for the last part. I find Williams hilarious in interviews even if he doesn't know how to shut up.

On film work alone, I go with Carrey. Williams started off well in the early 80s with home runs in Popeye, World According To Garp, Survivors (really underrated), Best Of Times, and of course Good Morning Vietnam, but then something happened. Starting with his underwhelming, somewhat embarrassing turn in Hook (where Julia Roberts outacted him as Tinkerbell!), he became consumed with his lovable "manchild" shit roles in garbage like Jack, Patch Adams, Mrs. Doubtfire, What Dreams May Come and others. Good Will Hunting redeemed him temporarily, but he went right back to the shit roles after that...:(
Carrey, meanwhile, started out with three comedy home runs right off the bat (Ace, Mask, and Dumber), and has proven even in his lesser films (Cable Guy, Majestic), that he brings enough to the table to make them watchable. Also he was outright ROBBED of Oscar noms for brilliant work in Truman Show, Man On The Moon, and (to a lesser extent) Eternal Sunshine, and he continues to prove to be a guy not afraid to take chances while still being entertaining as all hell...:D

I thought What Dreams May Come was a masterpiece. That movie and Good Will Hunting alone make up for any bad movie he's ever done IMO.
Plus, nothing Carey has ever done matches those two movies. Not even The Truman Show, Man on the Moon or Eternal Sunshine.

I would go with Carrey. I am still a big Ace Ventura fan. The sequel sucked, but I enjoyed the character.
Robin Williams isn't that funny to me. I enjoy him more in dramas. Good Will Hunting is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it was mainly because he did such a great job in it.
I remember seeing previews for What Dreams May Come, and wanting to see it so bad. Then I saw it, and hated it. It looked great, but it was so boring.

I'm the opposite actually. Hated the first one but loved the second one.

I guess I'll go with Robin Williams; both are hilarious, but I think Williams can do drama better.

Neither have been really funny to me for a long time, but both are solid dramatic actors. I'd have to go with the more seasoned Williams, though, and his last live standup performance on HBO was funnier than Carrey has been in years.

Jim Carrey has a better range of character, but Robin Williams has a much better standup. Though I have been really impressed with Williams in some of his dramatic roles.

In his favour Robin Williams has the following;
Good Morning Vietnam
Dead Poet's Society
The Fisher King
Good Will Hunting
One Hour Photo
In his favour Jim Carrey has the following;
The Mask
Dumb & Dumber
The Cable Guy
The Truman Show
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
In all honesty...I make it a draw. But only because of Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. It's Jim Carrey's secret weapon.

There ya go. Williams has more good performances, but ESOTS is so freakin good, it puts Carrey on top.

Robin Williams. A better dramatic actor, a better comedian. Jim Carrey has done some great comedic roles, a few bad ones, and his dramatic stuff generally ranges from good enough to bad. He tends to be the weakest link in most dramatic movies he's in. Oddly enough, despite it not being an especially good movie, I though his best dramatic performance was, by a fairly wide margin, Man On the Moon. It's an uncanny portrayal of Andy Kaufman. But on the whole, yeah, I give it to Williams. Even his acting in shitty movies is pretty good, and better than alot of what Carrey does.
