Schmoes,
I was thinking what's in the cinemas this Christmas, but I couldn't find an answer. I know that Harry Potter 6 and James Bond are in November, but I will probably have seen them already before Christmas.
The last couple of years have been lackluster in terms of a big christmas movie. I love going to the cinema with Christmas but the last time I have seen a good flick at christmas was King Kong in '05. The last great flick was ROTK in '03. So I was wondering, who knows what's in store for this Christmas??

Here's what's been set for December so far, courtesy of Box Office Mojo
December 12:
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Seven Pounds
Twilight
Youth in Revolt (limited)
December 19:
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Revolutionary Road
Tale of Despereaux
Yes Man
December 25:
Bedtime Stories
Marley and Me
Doesn't look like there'll be any big films this Christmas either. Christmas 2009 does have one tantalizing release: James Cameron's AVATAR. That will be the next big (and great) Christmas release.

Benjamin Button should be great! Not sure when The Road is coming out, but since it doesn't have a release date yet and it is coming out in 2008, I would assume it will probably be released around Christmas.

Star Trek was slated to come out this Christmas, but it got pushed back til May.
So, I'm thinking The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Revolutionary Road are the ones to beat.

I actually think that could be good.
I'm REALLY looking forward to:
Seven Pounds (Will Smith reteaming with his Pursuit of Happyness director and I think that movie was his best performance)
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Revolutionary Road (Sam Mendes + Leo Dicaprio + Kate Winslet = my ass in the theater)
Defiance (the trailer looks great, great cast and director Ed Zwick NEVER lets me down)
I'm sure they'll be a lot more others. It's early.

According to Box Office Mojo, THE ROAD is set for November 26, so it will be in theaters around Christmas.

How long have we all been waiting for Benjamin Button?
If the summer is as good as people are saying it is, then November or December will come up fast.

How long have we all been waiting for Benjamin Button?
Has it been pushed back a number of times?

Thnx schmoes for the heads up!!
So no big 'event' pictures this christmas, or maybe the Earth Stood Still. But a new Fincher is always great, and it sounds as an interesting project. But the new Sam Mendes flick seems like a winner. For me, DiCaprio is the finest actor of his generation and this could be the flick that's going to give him his first oscar. As for Kate Winslet, I adore her. She also is the best actress working today, loved her in Finding Neverland f.i.
The funny thing is I watched Titanic with my girlfriend (she loves it) yesterday and that film started to grow on me. A couple years back I thought it was a mediocre film, but now I can say that I enjoyed it. Its a great 'looking' film with some awesome scenes and both Winslet and DiCaprio were very convincing to me. What I especially liked was the difference in class-angle they took with this film.
Also a funny trivia is thought of when watching this film is that if you want to have a box-office smash as a studio/director: hire Bernard Hill, he was in Titanic and the Return of the King, the two biggest BO successes in history and a fine actor as well.

Well, while it isn't a big epic event film, there is The Yes Man, a kind if high-concept Jim Carrey comedy which, if marketed correctly, could prove to be the big money-maker of that time slot. But in terms of epic events, November is the month.

Four Christmases with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. It's coming out Thanksgivings, but it'll still be around near actual Christmas.
Also looking forward to:
Seven Pounds
Revolutionary Road
Yes Man
Benjamin Button
