You have a way of only including movies in your genre polls from the last 5 years.
I haven't seen all that many documentaries, but my favorite is Gimme Shelter, the Rolling Stones documentary that has the shooting at the Altamont Festival.

Other: Hearts and Minds, a great documentary from the 1970's about U.S. intervention in Vietnam.

If my talk of fatties becomes a regular poll option on this site, I can die knowing my life had meaning.
Other: Take your pick from Michael Moore.
Hoop Dreams. None of the films listed are in the same league. Was this supposed to be a list of only recent movies?
It's my favorite film of all time. Certainly among the greatest, most perceptive movies ever made. If you like movies at all and you haven't seen this, you should watch it today. Movies just don't get better.

Like two wise individuals have already stated, Hoop Dreams wins this hands down.
That said, I'd like to/should see more documentaries.

Given the awful, awful, AWFUL choices in the poll, I was going to choose Other, but the random lameness of the last choice enticed me.
The best documentary I've seen is Lessons in Darkness, followed by The Corporation.
My favorite is When We Were Kings.
I've never understood the love for Hoop Dreams.

Yeah...your poll is a pretty crappy representation of documentaries. If I was forced to choose from your poll, it would be King of Kong.
But some of my favorite documentaries would have to be: Brother's Keeper, Little Dieter Needs to Fly, Gimme Shelter, Land of Silence and Darkness and The Thin Blue Line.

I would actually choose Fahrenheit 9/11 if it were on the list. I'm not a big documentary guy, but I loved the hell out of Fahrenheit 9/11. Bowling for Columbine was solid as well.

As many have said, your options are a joke. I haven't seen The King of Kong or Comic Book, but all the other options are mediocre with the exception of Grizzly Man which is merely good.
Anything by Errol Morris, Michael Apted, Barbara Kopple, the Maysles, Frederick Wiseman, Berlinger/Sinofsky, Michael Moore, D.A. Pennebaker, Les Blank, or the other Herzog docs put those to shame.

It is, and so is its sequel. They are compelling and prove beyond any doubt that a few innocent kids were railroaded by a court that thought them guilty because of the way they dressed and the music they listened to while an obviously guilty man practically begging to be arrested went free. It'll make you angry, but it's definitely fascinating, like if The Thin Blue Line hadn't resulted in the release of Adams.

I've been loving the shit out of Pennebaker lately. Crisis is fucking brilliant.

I agree. The first Paradise Lost is without a doubt the greatest doco I have ever seen. The sequel is equally excellent as well.

From that list, March of the Penguins followed by Super Size Me, but the best I've seen is probably Deliver Us From Evil.
And Dragula should NOT have included Fahrenheit 9/11 because it is not a real documentary. Michael Moore, takes quotes out of context, and flat out lies on so many occasions, and this is coming from somebody who, for the most part, has NOT supported President Bush. Moore's films are propaganda films, not documentaries.

Off this list I voted for King of Kong. I haven't seen many documentaries...I've been watching them more this year. I would have to say HOOP DREAMS is the best I've seen.
BUT EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH A BRAND NEW DVD RELEASE CALLED 'SHARKWATER'. THIS IS AN AMAZING DOCUMENTARY EXPLAINING HOW SHARK FINNING IS AND WILL DESTROY OUR ECOSYSTEMS AND ATMOSPHERE!

Supersize Me was really good. Also, a film called Fuck which explores the origin of the word, its uses. Interviews with actors and filmmakers including Kevin Smith--very entertaining. Also, Hearts of Darkness

Has anyone seen 'The Bridge'? It's about suicide on the Golden Gate Bridge, but what I enjoyed even more was the Making Of featurette on the DVD. Some real HOLY SHIT moments.
Capturing The Freidmans is a GREAT doc.
American Movie is in my favorite movies of all time list.
Theres so many great doc.s, I don't understand why 'March of the Penguins' and 'An In convienent Truth' get the massive attention that they do. "March" was like n episode of Nova, and "Truth" was a power point presentation.
