It bugs me to no end when a tv spot comes on and at some point you get "Critics say that..." followed by three quotes FROM THE SAME GUY!!! That is not "Critics say" that is "We found this guy that works for a weekly small town circular who says"! Never Back Down is the latest from a long line of movies that does this. I'm not going to judge the movie, b/c I haven't seen it (that guy may be right), but don't use "critics say" and follow it up with one guy. I mean come on, the former Maxim guy (Peter something I think) loves everything. I'm sure if you call him up (whatever he's doing now) he would be more than happy to whip you up a quote to tack onto the guys quote from the Southeastern Lexington Weekly (not dogging KY btw) to actually make it two critics!

I like reading what critic they pick while watching the ads. It's usually "Joe Schmoe - Bumfuck Daily News." I find it a bit funny seeing who the marketers can find that actually liked the movies, especially those movies that look like only someone from Bumfuck would like.

Critics say 10,000 B.C is "MAMMOTH!"

That's the equivalent of saying "Critics say There Will Be Blood is "OIL!"

Nice.:D

I love when they get the review from a critic in Sandusky, Ohio who works at the Sandusky Penny Saver and sees one movie a year.
And then his name is tiny while the review is gi-fuckin-gantic.

"NEVER BACK DOWN is a pulse pounding, rabbit punch to the movie goers kidneys! Don't back down from this one!" says Milt Forbrush.

Thanks, Milt. Now crawl back into your little office and get those double savings coupons ready for the holiday weekend!

I don't mind if it's from a legitimate critic like Roger Ebert, Peter Travers, or one of the critics from Time/Newsweek. However, I've noticed that certain movies, particularly those that look terrible, rely on no-name critics from TV stations, Larry King, or that guy from MAXIM (Pete Hammond is the name I think) who either likes everything or is in fact fictional himself. I even recall seeing TV spots touting reviews from AICN and DailyKos! If a movie's that hard-pressed for reviews, you know it's bad.

Yeah...if it's not one of the big guns, who cares? And who cares even then? If a movie looks interesting to you, go see it...unless, perhaps, the buzz on it is overwhelmingly negative; then proceed with extreme caution.

I hate it when they're from websites... Atleast get the reviewers name

Apparently, noted quote monkey Pete Hammond is still spewing quotes, now for Boxoffice.com. He's like a boomerang: no matter how far and hard you throw him, he comes right back.
