I've been a regular personage at the Blockbuster in my town for some time. Just recently I moved into a new house, so I was rather excited to know that their store was within walking distance to rent movies. Not having a car, this meant plenty of rentals of video game software for my 360 and Wii. However, just recently I rented Halo 3, and when I brought it home, it was cracked. They graciously replaced it with a "free rental", so I went to another one of your stores and rented Halo 3 there. I returned it on time, and proceeded to rent Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and Oblivion, both for the 360 again. When I got it home, neither worked. When I opened my 360 Oblivion had a scratch on it, which 360's are known to do. Rainbow Six's disc looked just fine. It however wouldn't load. When I called your store that night because it was already too late to head back over, they told me they'd grant me a "free rental" and return the games for replacements. Now here's where the problem begins.

I went over just a few minutes ago, and brought the games in, and told them what was going on, and when I couldn't find anything else to rent, even though I'd rented the games on my debit card, the manager (Adrian I believe), and I wanted my money back, told me "It's not store policy", so I asked if I put the money toward purchasing a product (a used copy of Halo 3, for 39.99), she told me she couldn't allow that either because it wasn't store policy. I had my recipt from the rentals, that clearly said debit card, and she still wouldn't put the $17.10 toward the purchase.

She finally refunded the money, however, she terminated my ability to rent games from the store.

They also tried selling me on their "Game plan" which means you get unlimited replacements for ONE game for 20 some odd dollars and said "Five bucks additional wouldn't of killed you, with what you spent on the games previously."

Before anyone else says it, I've already sent this to the consumerist ..

I'm not a fan of Blockbuster myself. But I haven't had horribly crappy times renting from 'em. DVDs that is.

Is there a Netflix for games? I'd try that.

Yes. There's a couple of them, actually. Gamefly is the most popular one.

I can't afford it. :(

I do Netflix + XBox Live + Final Fantasy 11 Mmo payments.

i used to do the Blockbuster Total Access, which was not bad... but then every week they decided to raise the rates by 10 bucks... so i cancelled that shit and wrote them a letter calling them unethical and i looked forward to their demise... which will be coming sooner than later, without question

Well, Blockbuster can't give refunds (it's true), but they should have put the $17.10 as store credit for you to use at a future time.

And the Game Pass kicks ass. Rent out one game and you can continue to swap games in and out whenever you wish, with no late fees to boot. And it costs less than renting three games.

I tried GameFly a while back, however their closest storage warehouse must of been somewhere in the Andromeda galaxy because for fuck's sake of all things holy and well done it took weeks to get a new game once mailed back. It was ridiculous.

Netflix is definitely the way to go for movies, but as far as games are concerned, who knows.

I worked as a assistant store manager for a blockbuster for 3 years, it wasn't Blockbusters fault it was that particular managers fault. I would have given you a store credit and then yes you could have purchased anything you liked, even the game pass if you wanted it. If you would have been persistant I would have even refunded your money.

Big difference is whether the store is corporate or a franchise. Franchise stores have more leeway but even with a corporate store as long as you get a non asshole manager there should be no problem. Because she did eventually do the refund.

Not only did Gamefly take 1 & 1/2 to 2 weeks to get the next game to me, after about 3 months of soaking my money up, the games started to "get lost" in the mail.

I've done Netflix since almost the beginning and only had 1 thing "get lost" so far. They've been excellent. Gamefly on the other hand told me that they were suspending my account and that if they didn't get the game back that I had at home at the time, I would be charged for it.

Well they got the game and a scathing letter back by certified mail. They then had the audacity to email me a confirmation that they had received the game back. I replied "No shit! I already knew that because nobody can trust you thieves."

Gee, how often do you think I recommend those douches?

Damnit Andrew. I saw this thread in the forum the other day and ran off to Blockbuster. Not only did I find that no one could suck my cock, I also found no one would even be willing if they could.

It always pays to read the thread.

I asked both, but it was the homeless guy out front who I got the furthest with. I'll remember the password next time. I wonder if that corner independent video store will honor this competitors offer like they claim.

I'm surprised she gave you a refund. I worked at Hollywood forever, and unless absolutely necessary, we never gave refunds. You're lucky you got that back, bud!

Did they offer to buff it? They should have a buffing machine there that could help with the scratches. I know that all the Hollywood's did, so I'm not sure about Blockbuster! That's too bad that she terminated your gaming rentals. You have a debit/credit card which secures your account, so I don't understand why you can't rent anymore. They probably thought you were scamming them, or some other stupid shit like that! How is your late fee status? Or does BB have late fees??

Because if your account is clear, you have a debit/credit card, and you've been renting there for a while... there is NO reason why you can't rent. Grr..

edit

heres another FUCK YOU BLOCKBUSTER

FROM bloody-disgusting

Over the past week I've been receiving a double does of e-mails regarding Dimension Extreme's Inside (review), which is now available at all retailers and Blockbusters nationwide. For every glowing e-mail from a reader who agreed with my review, there was one who didn't. The amount of e-mails that I received was pretty perplexing and out of the norm, which had me scratching my head - until today. We discovered that Blockbuster Video has censored the release of the French slasher film cutting a whopping seven minutes of blood and guts out of the film! So all of you haters who rented the film at Blockbuster, drop me a line because I am quite curious to see how bad it was demolished. Dimenson has an exclusive deal with Blockbuster, which sucks because Dimension Extreme is going to have plenty of unrated titles released through it. Screw you Blockbuster, I'm 28-years-old and don't need you to tell me what I can or can't watch. Man I'm FURIOUS. What do you guys think?

Wow. Sounds like you've got a legitimate complaint working here. Fire off a letter or e-mail detailing everything to Blockbuster corporate, and watch what happens next. I'll betcha get a few rental coupons out of the deal at the very least. And what's the deal with that so-called manager person? How petty and un-consumer savvy can one get? Revoking your game rental rights? What's next, barring you from Twizzler purchases? Sheesh, what a knucklehead.

Ah, Blockbuster. Do us all a giant favor and go ahead with your bid to buy Circuit City. With any luck you'll run two obsolete, mismanaged retail entities into the ground.

It's all about the manager and a good manager can make people extremely loyal to a store or hate them forever. I haven't worked at Blockbuster for 2 years and I still get people who identify me from working there because I helped them out with late fees, or fixed a problem. We had the largest percentage of customers on our movie pass in the entire Western US becuase of how loyal our customer became.

I understand some people try to scam with game rentals renting a game they didn't like and returning it to get another game but if you had no problems on your account and were willing to make an exchange or buy something in lieu of the rental I would never have questioned your motives. Hell if you were completely honest with me and said hey this game sucked I rented it 4 hours ago can I get something different I would let you do it.

Its all about the manager and EvilHenchmen has the right idea, email corporate and let them know the situation and they will resolve it for you. You will at least get a couple free rentals out of it and can nail that asshole manager to the wall.

Gamefly has been pretty good for me. Used to buy and rent sometimes from b'buster, but not for over a year. How long ago were you a subscriber? they've added a few distribution centers in the last year so delivery is pretty snappy these days. Have had some issues with them but the cost and convenience factor is pretty high and nothing they didn't resolve. I'm lovin' em lately. Just sold some games to them and got 2 months for FREE.
