OCALA, Florida (Reuters) - Actor Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison on Thursday for failing to file his federal income tax returns.

The sentenced was the maximum under the law, which U.S. prosecutors had recommended for the star of the "Blade" movie series. He was found guilty in February of failing to file tax returns for 1999-2001.

He should of gotten six, three years for submitting us to the pain that is the other Blade movies.

He'll just go to celebrity prison anyway. He'll have his own cell thats the size of a trailer. He'll be totally seperated from everyone else. Plus he'll only serve 3 months.

i'm assuming the tax offences area is pretty dense so i don't know if 3 years is good or bad.

In purely movie terms he was good as blade even if the third movie didnt measure up to the second (not a fan of the first one). I imagine he struggled to find much work after the blade series and even during it you couldn't really imagine him in anything else.

Still tis sad that he managed to fuck up this bad.

I'm both shocked an appalled.

A regular citizen wouldn't get 3 years for not filing taxes for 3 years.

Hilton & Lohan drunk driving, Spears, child endangerment... Snipes 3 years!

He brought it on himself, that's all I can say.

The 3 years was the max he could get. He should be so lucky! He was aquitted of federal tax-fraud and conspiracy charges, and could have faced up to 16 years!

This man owed more than $2.7 million dollars! I do have to say that I did love him in a dress in To Wong Foo:

Sucks for him, but I strongly suspect that his sentence will be reduced on appeal. If they had slapped him with the full sixteen years, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he ended up fleeing the country--which they thought he had done already when the charges came up, though he was just filming in Nambia, I think. I still would not rule it out. ;)

I hate to say it, but if it had been George Clooney you know he wouldn't be serving any jail time.

Easy, let's not make this into a racial issue. The man will only do a few months with good behavior and that's a small price for not paying the man a little over 2 million dollars. I pay my fucking taxes and so should he.

And why wouldn't Clooney get the same sentence? Where does that come from? Because he's A list or because he's white? Damn, it's not even that big a deal, he'll be back to making direct to DVD movies before you can blink an eye.

i like some of his flicks... and at first was like, that would suck if he got sentenced... and then he turned it into a fucking Racial issue... and whenever anyone does that without merit (im looking at you fat bitch Oprah)... you lose any respect or fandom i had for you... so good for him for going to jail... im sure he will say its cuz he is black, cuz that appears to be his M.O whenever he breaks the law.

Not exactly the same thing as a crazy guy with a gun in New Hampshire holding up in his house because he refuses to pay his income tax.

Can you explain that more so I don't have to look up more on this? What was he doing, and how bad was it? Please don't make me cry over Judge Joe sticking up for something outrageous.

The court heard yesterday that Snipes dodged $15 million (£7.5 million) in tax through a campaign in which he concealed millions offshore, falsely applied for tax refunds and bombarded the Internal Revenue Service with frivolous correspondence that threatened government employees, railed about extortion and used twisted legal interpretations to back his claim that taxation was unlawful.

“For nearly a decade, Snipes has engaged in a campaign of criminal tax conduct combining brazen defiance with insidious concealment,” the prosecuting attorney, Robert O’Neill, told the court in a sentencing memorandum. “In the defendant Wesley Snipes, the court is presented with a wealthy, famous and inveterate tax scofflaw. If ever a tax offender was deserving of being held accountable to the maximum extent for his criminal wrongdoing, Snipes is that defendant.”

His lawyers argued that his tax advisers, Douglas P Rosile and Eddie Ray Kahn, who were also jailed yesterday, had duped their client with a claim that there were no laws requiring him to pay tax.

US attorney Robert O'Neill, however, told the judge that Snipes was a "notorious" tax protestor who deliberately used bogus and discredited arguments to avoid paying.

He got off with a leniant charge, most of us would have got nearer the ten mark for such an offense. Plus he'll be doing easy time, same place they send corrupt politicians and police officers; he'll get a decent size room to himself, and probably have television and maybe even a pool table.

3 years means he has to do one year minimum and can be out on parole with time off for good behavior.

Nah, I thought he got the maximum sentence, and yeah - he's not going to federal-reserve-pound-me-in-the-ass-prison.

What the dealeo with that sentencing?

haha looks like FatSakHead is back.

Nah, FatSak and I were cool with one another and that's why I had to put up a vigil for him. He wouldn't do something like that because he's a cool dude. On my livespace journal I wrote a story about him comparing the two of us to the Brothers McMullen of joblo.com. Oh, and plus he would have been witty enough to come up with "Location: Near the Ultraworld"

But if you plan to cross Uncle Sam, be prepared to go down for it.

Nah, like Orson said, it probably won't be that type of prison.

Nah, like Orson said, it probably won't be that type of prison.

Oh, no doubt it's gonna be a "Club Fed" deal.
Tax dodgers and movie stars don't do time in Oz with Adabesi.
But the idea of not being able to just go out and do what you want for a whole year is gonna suck.
Not being able to film the sequel to "Passenger 57" (it's called "Passenger 58" and it also stars Gary Busey and Megan Good) is really gonna be tough on him.

The whole Wesley Snipes thing is far more bizarre than you can possibly imagine. About a year or so ago, Radar magazine did a big story on him and how he's involved with this strange group of wackos who don't believe in paying taxes and were basically building their own army of trained soldiers.

It sounded like he knew exactly what he was doing the whole time.

Looks like he tried to ice skate uphill.

At least someone had the balls to protest taxes and stand up to the gov , they're out of control but Snipes was willing to do something about it . Yes , he paid for it , but he was willing to stand up for his convictions , he just went up my my book , i see him more as a rebel now , instead of a primadonna celebrity .

These pinheads take our money and do what they want with it , and we don't have any say in the matter , so Snipes said fuck em' , i applaud him for that .

The federal income tax was only supposed to be a temporary government program ( fleecing ) but they saw how much money they could swipe from the citizens , so they never repealed it .

Also , how many people are out there working under the table , not reporting income ( i doubt waiters report all their tips , just for example ) , millions , Snipes just got caught for it , but he's not a criminal , not in my eyes , he's now a hero .
