View Full Version : Halloween III: Season of the Witch
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
I must admit, this film has grown on me over the years. We have to give Akkad and co. some credit with trying something different here, in any case.
Dan O'Herlihy was a good villain. The moment when he kills that family was chilling, and I still chuckle over the fact that Buddy's son is named "Little Buddy":D.
Stacey Nelkin was quite cute, and I would think she'd be an actual household name today had her role in Blade Runner(also 1982) not been cut.
Like many others have stated, the film actually owes more to Invasion of the Body Snatchers than to Halloween.
I just wonder, though, was Cochran an alien, since he just 'vanishes' at the climax? Also, if he went to all the trouble of replacing Ellie, why didn't she just stop Challis from killing all her comrades instead of waiting till they were driving away?
I also wonder how the hell Cochran got that piece of Stonehedge. Yes, he says "We had a time getting it here," but it would've been nice to see just how they got something THAT BIG through customs all the way from the UK to California.
Still, this film is still an interesting view, for its unique place in the Halloween franchise, if nothing else.

HAHA I LOVE this movie. One of my favorite movies of the Halloween series. I think it always received a bad rap due to it's title and promotional work from the studios when it came out as no one knew Michael was in it until they were watching it and when word got out it didn't have Michael it BOMBED!!! BIG TIME!!! They should have named it "Season of the Warlock" I mean Witch... NOT!!! or Silver Shamrock. Great movie that could have deserved a follow up sequel to it as it was a great story.

Halloween III is easily one of my favorite horror films of all time. I'm upset over the fact that so many people dismiss the movie because of Michael Myers' absence. If this movie was just called Season of the Witch instead of Halloween III: Season of the Witch, then I think that it would be looked upon in a much better light and maybe even considered a classic. If only the misinformed would look into the backstory of the movie. The makers wanted to have a new Halloween movie come out each year, but with a different story each time. It was never their intentions to bring back Michael Myers. If Halloween III hadn't bombed, we would have never seen Myers again and there wouldn't be so much negativity directed towards Season of the Witch.
This movie has everything I could ever ask for in a horror film. Tom Atkins kicks major ass as the story's hero Dr. Dan Challis. Dan O'Herlihy portrays one of the most memorable horror villains ever, Conal Cochran. The film's opening title has that cool, digitally animated pumpkin with John Carpenter's chilling synthesizer music. It's got those mysterious, robotic henchmen with unhuman strength. There's that annoyingly catchy Silver Shamrock theme music and the slightly disturbing kills and gore. And finally, it's got that great cliffhanger ending!
I will forever defend this movie as a classic of the genre. 4/5

I can't believe I'm in the minority on this, well...by myself on this....
I don't hate it because Myers wasn't in it, its a bit of a letdown that he wasn't looking back at the entire series now, but i know the whole backstory, and it still don't make the movie any better. You can call this movie just Season of the Witch or the Exorcist if u want, still don't make it any better in my books. As a completely seperate movie or as part of the series, its terrible. Clearly I have a different view of things though, as I also loved the Happening and most chose it as the worst movie of 2008.

That movie sucked. Halloween 3 it should have been called Silver Shit. I thought is was a total wasted of good AMC movie time. If I hear the silver shamrock song one more time... TWO MORE DAYS TILL HALLOWEEN HALOWEEN, HALLOWEEN...(click,click,click) cruel world...(BANG and im Dead)

I really liked H3 for several reasons, like its been mentioned if it was only called "Season of the Witch" it would probably be considered a classic. Its overall mood was dark and its ending was both creepy and satisfying. I wish people would look at it as its own movie and not judge it just because it didn't feature Michael Myers.

I think this film gets the shaft, they tried to something a bit different, and the fanbase lashed out brutally against them. As a fan, sure I missed the formidable presence of Michael Meyers, but having an evil toymaker create masks that have bugs and other creepy crawlers pouring out of every orifice, killing kids is in my opinion, good fucking times. Now if only they would have ditched that annoying Halloween jingle that plays every five minutes.

I think the annoying part was the point though,or atleast its more effective in its nature in the film.
Nonetheless, I find this flick pretty damn enjoyable. Cheesy?Yeah, but so are so many other movies I love alot. Atkins is beyond kickass as always, and its just in general hated on for the obvious reasons which for many years I felt the same as most hating on it due to not having Mikey, but over time I just let it settle and realized it for a film in it own.

I bought the soundtrack before this movie came out. It was the first Halloween movie to have a soundtrack by a major label (MCA) I loved the themes...okay except the Shamrock theme which is on the album TWICE! But the rest by Carpenter & howarth is solid. Still one of my fav horror scores.
As for the movie. It had only a one thing going for it.....
Tom Atkins in his prime!
If you haven't seen it yet, see it for that reason alone.
ATKINS RULES!

I really want to get the H-3 soundtrack. Its available on the net, but its like $30. I dont want to spend that much. I already have the soundtracks for part 2, 4, and 5. You could always rely on the older Halloween flicks as far as atmospheric score goes.
Atkins really does make the movie alot better than it should be. The melting masks and the end is really good.

I hated it. It was just really dull until the last 20 minutes or so ("one more thing...Happy Halloween') and the ending was too frustrating.

Yeah, I think I've enjoyed pretty much everything I've seen from him; Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable & obviously the Happening. Never got around to seeing Lady in the Water. Oh wait, I hated The Village, almost forget about that one (with good reason)...

you know, i think to myself why remake halloween . why remake the good movies. it's the movies that didn't quite hit there mark the first go around , they are the one's that should be remade. halloween 3 is that type of flick. it's good, i mean the concept is good. it missed the mark on a few points. it could have definitely been done better.
