(From Examiner) (http://www.examiner.com/a-1364093~Nashville_songwriter_charged_in_death_of_C heri_Oteri_s_dad.html)
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Map, News) - Nashville police have arrested a country songwriter in the stabbing death of the father of TV comic Cheri Oteri (oh-TEHR-ee).

Authorities said Monday they had charged 61-year-old Richard William Fagan with criminal homicide in the Saturday night killing of 69-year-old Gaetano Thomas Oteri.

The victim's daughter was on the cast of "Saturday Night Live." Police say she has been told of her father's death.

Police say Fagan and the victim were roommates.

Fagan is listed as co-writer on hits by singer John Michael Montgomery, including "Sold (the Grundy County Auction Incident)," "Be My Baby Tonight," and "I Miss You a Little."

Dude, I love that song... Even though Country is not my favorite, Sold (the Grundy Country Auction Incident) is pretty damn catchy! I wonder what happen that drove a 61 year-old man to kill? People are insane... I think Cheri Oteri is pretty damn funny! Thats awful what happened. R.I.P.

According to TMZ (http://www.tmz.com/2008/04/28/nashville-stabbing-victim-is-cheri-oteris-dad/), they were very close:

Gaetano Thomas Oteri was allegedly murdered by songwriter Richard Fagan last Saturday night when Fagan stabbed Oteri with a pocket knife. Fagan and Oteri had collaborated on several of Fagan's songs, and on Fagan's own website, Oteri is credited with helping Fagan through tough times: "Many years ago when Fagan was down and out (see Fagan bio), it was Tommy who took him him and put him on a path to songwriting stardom."

Beautiful, hilarious, and extremely talented.
