And damn was it great! Why wasn't most of this stuff kept in the theatrical cut? Especially loved the scene where make it so the Terminator can learn again, helps sell the character differnece before and after alot more.
Definately enjoy this version over the theatrical

The extended was the first time I watched it so it would be difficult for me to judge

It was sliced down for runtime. You can get more screenings in a day when the movie's shorter.
*********** SPOILERS (Like it matters, but just in case) **********
Don't know if you've seen the extras or anything, but the scene where they pull the chip out of the Terminator's head used Linda Hamilton's twin sister to play her in the mirror. That's pretty rad.
They did a great job overdubbing his explanation that he's a learning computer very well. However, a few small lines here and there (Flashing the car keys, "Are we learning yet?") makes a tad more sense than the theatrical version. It works either way, but even moreso in the D.C.
I think the extra footage of Miles and his family was a little redundant and was glad it was removed.
The scene where the T-1000 searches John's room by touching objects and knowing what's beneath by registering the molecular structure was rad. More surreal than him just tearing everything apart.
I think my most favorite moments are near the end, though, when the T-1000 is breaking down and he starts melding with the metal grates, and his hand mimics the railing. I wish those 20 seconds stayed in, because it adds a sense of minor vulnerability which gives the viewer the idea that yes, there IS a chance of defeating it!

*********** SPOILERS **********
One important scene we didn't see in the theatrical cut was the scene between Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor. Because of this scene it made more sense why Sarah was so determined to kill Dyson and change the future.
In the extended version we also see the T-1000 kill John's dog. Actually, I just realized why John's stepfather asked himself why the dog was barking at ? Didn't the resistance use dogs to track down terminators in the future ?
*****************************
...anyway, although this movie is almost 18 years old, it's still my favourite of all time. This movie never seems to age and is still far superior then most action movies that are released now.

It seems that behind every Cameron film is a noticeably improved Director's Cut.

That's my favorite scene from the extended version. It's a great scene.

Where the Terminator learns to smile is the worst thing ever. I really didn't like the extended cut. Most of the stuff there just made the movie too long and you could figure stuff out without the extra scenes. They are usually cut for a reason. I want to pick up T2 on DVD but can only find the extended cut and don't really want that. Also I have seen the original on VHS so many times that all the new stuff was just weird to me and seemed to take me out of the story.

Quoting stuff that was labled as Spoilers :p

Yeah i had to rewind that part as they did a seemless job of continuing the dialog. And yeah it makes coments like the "learning yet?" one make more sense seeing as in the theatrical cut they don't change him so he can effectivly learn already so wouldn't he have been learning all along.
I think the extra footage of Miles and his family was a little redundant and was glad it was removed.
It wasn't crucial but i didn't see it as redundant as it gives insight to Dison as a person and what he's trying to acomplish where as befroe seeing that scene i always just veiwed him as a money grubbing fat cat sort of charater who was doing this stuff to be famous while he was doing it to save lives.
I can't remeber if the mother mentions her in the assaination attempt scene in the theatrical cut but did you notice Dison also has a daughter?

Yeah i thought that was great though it sort of makes how easily he takes out T-800 not make as much sense, but still cool.

Yeah that was a cool scene and i liked it how he didn't baby her at all he just pretty much tells her to buck up soldier and go get their son. If he acted any other way i think it would have been quite the deviation from his character in the first film.
In the extended version we also see the T-1000 kill John's dog. Actually, I just realized why John's stepfather asked himself why the dog was barking at ? Didn't the resistance use dogs to track down terminators in the future ?
Yeah thats why he asks but it seems strange that the T-800 wouldn't have clued into that instead of giving a fake name to find out the T-1000.

heh i enjoyed the learing to smile scene only because it was exactly as i would have expected it to be, awkward and silly. Its true that alot of the re added stuff isn't crutial to the story adn it can do fine without it but i like them cause they usually were helping to tie the 2 moveis together more which was cool. T2 could almost be a stand alone story with the theatrical cut as they only tie as much as is really needed back to the first film and this extended but makes them seem like more of a continuation to me i guess.

I think the extended cut was much weaker than the theatrical one actually, explaining things that are better left unsaid and the audience picks up on anyway.
The sequence with Michael Biehn returning is laughably bad and melodramatic too. "On your feet soldier!" makes me sides hurt. The extended version of Aliens is a mixed bag, but overall better than the theatrical cut, this one not so much.

the extended edition has a whole feature on it and why it was left out. It serves more as "hey it's there here it is as an extra" nothing more
theatrical was perfect, aliens on the other hand that's different.

The movie isn't supposed to be awkward and silly that's why I hated that scene. It just sort of took it away from the gloomy serious feel.
Also the learning part with the keys didn't need a lead in it worked for me when I first saw it many years ago.

No it didn't need a lead in you're right but i just enjoyed the scene with John and Sarah and her trynig to destroy the chip. Out of all the stuff thats in the extended but that would be the one thing i would have left in for sure. Its just more insight to the character, like the Dison scene though that one is far less important.

Watched the Ultimate edition or whatever it is with the "instead I got drunk" ending (can't stop laughing at that line) a few months ago, still a very entertaining film but Furlong gets more and more annoying every time I sit down to it.

I have to disagree. With me it's the opposite. I absolutely LOATHED Furlong on my early viewings, but more recently, especially with the DC, I realized what Cameron was going for by casting him, as well as seeing the surprising depth Furlong managed to bring to the table, which is pretty fucking tremendous considering he just walked in off the street and was picked to play the part...:)

Yeah, when I saw that gigantic wave rise above the city I was speechless. Plus, I didnt know it back then but that whole sequence was paying a huge homage to 2010: The Year We Make Contact. That whole angle about a higher power (In The Abyss's case it was aliens, in 2010 it was possibly God himself) telling the human race to cool their jets and aim for peace. NIIICE.
I honestly cant believe they cut that out of the original theatrical release, it seemed to me that it was the whole central message of the film.
