I just cant help but realize just how cool this summer is shaping up to be! Summer movie season has been kicked off today and I cant be any happier as Im sure many of you out there are. I mean its like nothing but good stuff coming our way, starting today with Marvel Comics Iron Man hitting theaters. Its already getting rave reviews everywhere! And quite honestly looks like is going to be one of the best comic book movies ever....cant wait to see it today!
http://media.movieweb.com/img/S/7/6/PH4k199cwRwS76_m.jpg
Then we get non other then Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal skull which I have absolutely no doubt will kick major ass, bringing old school characters back, and putting indy in another great adventure. I get goosebumps just by hearing the score on the new trailer and watching indy swinging around the air with his whip...freaking cool.
http://media.movieweb.com/img/K/N/O/PHJ4dSKONkvKNO_m.jpg
Then we get The Incredible Hulk which inspite of some behind the scenes squables looks like it might actually be a fun pop corn movie. Those last 30 minutes of Hulk Smashing action sound promising...

Hancock is a film that came out of left fied for me. It took me by surprise when I saw the previews and was actually impressed by them. Im not a huge Will Smith fan, but this one looks like something entirely different for him, and a good opportunity to make a big budget spoof of superhero movies, while at the same time being a good superhero movie. Its about time we got a good spoof, Im fed up with those cheap "Meet the Spartans" type of movie spoofs.
http://media.movieweb.com/img/0/T/P/PHOkBPOWRCZ0TP_m.jpg
Hot from directing the wonderful Pans Labyrinth...Guillermo del Toro is set to dazzle us once more with Hellboy II: The Golden Army. In spite of the fact that the first one was very flawed (that cheesy dialog!) this one looks like its a step up from the first one. It looks slicker, bigger and better! Cant wait to see how del Toro makes Hellboy II: The Golden Army better then the last Hellboy outing which was fun anyways.
http://media.movieweb.com/img/0/j/k/PHgHPghhzL70jk_m.jpg
And of course, leaving the best for last....The Dark Knight. The anticipation for this one is has reached fever pitch proportions for movie fans everywhere. No doubt Heath Ledger will have turned in the performance of his life with this role, sadness engulfs movie fans everywhere when we think about it, cause lets face it, Ledger was shaping up to be one of the greats...but seeing him on screen one more time and in what will no doubt be an incredibly memorable role, makes me almost explode with anticipation for seeing this one. That toppled with the fact that the movie looks like it will be an action packed, big budget special effects filled extravaganza. Cant freaking wait!
Theres a bunch of other great summer flicks that Im looking forward to like:
The Love Guru,
M. Night Shyamalans The Happening
http://media.movieweb.com/galleries/4903/posters/poster1_large.jpg
Wall-E
Sex in The City
Kung Fu Panda

Which ones are you most looking forward to watching? And are there any that I might have missed that need to be mentioned?

Honest, understandable flub... But it's simply The Dark Knight. And I'm quite looking forward to that one the most. :D I love that Joker picture!
I will give Hancock a chance. Not that I think Will Smith can do no wrong, because he can... Oi. But the movie looks like it'd be entertaining.
Um... The Incredible Hulk I'll watch out of curiosity. I enjoyed the first but they're taking this one in a different direction so it'll be interesting.

Thanks for that, I fixed the typo.
Will Smith, he can defenetly do some wrong...just think back to Wild Wild West! But this one looks like it could be fun, Im actually looking forward to it which is something that doesnt normally happen with Will Smith movies for me.
But with this summer, it feels like comic book movies have completely taken over...which is like heaven for me cause I remember the day when comic book movies where actually a very very rare thing. Now its like complete bliss for geeks and fan boys like me!

This summer looks solid for me, but their are a lot of things I won't be seeing.
Meet Dave (Eddie Murphy sucks)
Journey 3-D (Brendan Frasier sucks)
Indiana Jones (MAybe eventually, but I've never the biggest Indiana Jones fan)
Love Guru (Looks horrendous and on the level of Epic Movie/Meet The Spartans)
Sex & The City (Never cared about the show)
What Happens In Vegas (Ashton Kutcher sucks)
Step Brothers (Looks lame and I really disliked the last Ferrell/Reilly movie and this doesn't look much better)
You Don't Mess With The Zohan (Looks stupid)
Get Smart (Ditto)
Mamma Mia! (Hate musicals)
The Mummy 3
Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants 2
Wild Child
College
Babylon A.D. (MEH!)
But their are just a bunch of movies, I'm excited for as well:
Iron Man
Son Of Rambow (Looks hilarious)
Speed Racer (Just for the visuals)
The Strangers
Incredible Hulk
Wall-E
Hancock
The Wackness (A movie about pot and 90's hip hop starring Ben Kingsley and Josh from Nickelodeon's "Drake And Josh" = me there.)
Hellboy 2 (Didn't dig the first one that much, but man the previews have been fantastic so far)
The Dark Knight
Choke (Plot is very intruiging)
Tropic Thunder
Mirrors (Aja hasn't failed me yet)
Bangkok Dangerous (Could be hit or miss, as that's how it is with Cage. Hopefully, it's hit.)

This is the one with the two kids making their own Rambo movie or something, yeah I saw the previous and it does look pretty funny.
Speed Racer (Just for the visuals).)
Me too, but I gots a sneaking suspicion that it will suck, dont know why. I could be wrong though.
Choke (Plot is very intruiging).)
If it sticks to the funny situations in the book, we should be in for a pretty funny movie. Pahlaniuk is god.
Tropic Thunder.)
Not really a summer flick, but Im DYING to see it as well! This same cast should get together for a remake of Ghostbusters!
Mirrors (Aja hasn't failed me yet).)
Aja is great, concept sounds kick ass.
Bangkok Dangerous (Could be hit or miss, as that's how it is with Cage. .)
Nicholas Cage, Ive lost all hope for the guy. I hope he can someday redeem himself.

I'm also looking forward to the SW Clone Wars movie...and James Bond, but that's not out till the fall.
I don't think we've had a summer like this in a while - or at least it seems that way (I'm talking about the amount of genre stuff, etc...). I'll be happy to see them all.
Just remember: afternoon showings people, no Friday nights.

I dont think Ive seen a summer like this one (in terms of coolness) since the summer of 1989 when Tim Burtons Batman was first released, along with Ghostbusters II, Honey I shrunk the kids, Lethal Weapon II, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade..this summer kind of brought me back memories from that year.

Well, I kicked off my summer last night with Iron Man....wow, what a way to start the summer! Cool performance by Robert Downey Jr., great special effects and action sequences and a great intro story for the character. Loved how they got the Iron Man story mixed in with current world events, it made the story that much more relevant. Couldnt have wished for a better way to start off the summer! Awesome movie!

Movies I will see
Mummy 3
Damn, I forgot to mention that one! Though its not technically a summer movie cause it starts in August, but still, I have to watch it! Its weird because the other two Mummy movies were summer tentpole films, this is the first one to not be released in the summer. Still, it looks awesome.

The coolest summer movies were those released in the 80's like Star Wars Episode V, Aliens, Die Hard, Predator,Lethal Weapon, Top Gun, Batman, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Beverly Hills Cop 2. Hell yeah this summer movie season has some great films i'm interested to see and some i might wait until they get released on dvd. Tropic Thunder might be this year's #1 comedy and Ben Stiller's best film since There's Something About Mary, The Dark Knight is my must see movie of the year(followed by Quantum of Solace)and dying to see the new upcoming trailer. Hellboy 2 looks cool but it won't be a blockbuster hit but a moderate hit. Guillermo del Toro is one of the greatest directors making fantasy type movies.Another movie i'm interested to see is The Strangers. Think of Funny Games as a horror slasher film. And finally films like Meet Dave, Hancock, Get Smart, The Love Guru, Don't Mess with the Zohan, The Happening, What Happen in Vegas, Babylon A.D. and The Mummy 3 might be duds.
P.S. anyone expecting to see Pineapple Express? Stoner movies are making a comeback due to the success of Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.
I'm stoked for Pineapple Express, and I plan on seeing Iron Man tonight.
As far as other summer movies I'll prolly go see Speed Racer (Meh), Indy IV, The Strangers, Zohan, Incredible Hulk, Love Guru (Another Meh), Hancock, Hellboy 2, The Dark Knight, Step Brothers, X-Files 2 and Tropic Thunder.

This does seem like a great lineup, but I'm fairly certain that 90% of the filsms listed will end up disappointing (big time!).
The only ones that seem like a sure bet at this point are The Dark Knight and Wall-E.
Can't even say for sure that Indy is going to be all that great (judging by the most recent trailer).

The Strangers
Another I have to look into!
I consider '89 the first real SEASON of great summer movies. And I fully agree that this has potential to live up that level.

This summer is going to be golden.
Looking at all the films coming out this summer that is exactly how i feel. There are so many (even if they are cheesey fun) movies coming out that i am looking forward to.

If I remember correctly, that summer was labeled "sequel summer" cause of all the sequels that came out. And the following year 1990, was equally good. And equally loaded with sequels.
I guess we can label this summer "comic book movie summer", superheroes have defenetly taken over the box office for good...I wonder how long it will last? Its still going strong! I dont think it will ever die down...its turned into a whole genre on its own!

Ah the memories. I was 13 years old and spent my summer vacation with my family visiting Miami, Orlando and Tampa and everywhere selling Batman merchandise from t-shirts to posters.

Iron Man didn't quite live up to my (admittedly high) expectations. But there is still plenty to look forward to.
Speed Racer looks amazing.
Narnia looks amazing too although I'm a little worried about the PG rating since the trailer made it look EPIC and I'm concerned by just how epic it can be with such a low rating.
Indy IS going to AMAZING! C'mon Spielberg. You NEVER let me down.
Sex and City should be alright too. The show is alright so the movie should be alright.
You Don't Mess with the Zohan looks pretty damn funny.
The more I see of The Happening the more excited I get. It just looks great and I'm really rooting for this movie to not only be great but also hopefully do well at the boxoffice. I REALLY Shyamalan to have a big comeback because the guy deserves one. He's such a great director.
The Incredible Hulk, I won't say it looks incredible. And it won't be as great as Ang Lee's movie. But it still looks like a hell of a lot of fun.
Get Smart is one I'm definitely excited about. Loved the show and I hope the movie delivers. Plus, Carrell is just the PERFECT choice for Maxwell Smart.
Hopefully WALL*E will be the first great pixar flick since Monster's Inc. It looks like a lot of fun.
Hancock looks like a hell of a lot of fun as well. Will Smith rules the 4th of July boxoffice.
Hellboy II looks visually awesome and should be fun.
Unlike a lot of people I'm actually looking forward to both Meet Dave and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Journey just looks amazing with it's 3d. I'm sure the plot is just an excuse for the 3d stuff, but if the 3d stuff delivers then that'll be okay. And Meet Dave actually looks pretty damn funny. Could be a minor comeback for Eddie Murphy. I certainly hope so because I love the guy and it's really sucked seeing in so many bad movies like Norbit.
The Dark Knight - nuff said. I don't really have anything to add to what has already been said for the movie that will probably end up being the 2nd best movie of the summer. Only Indy is likely to be better.
Hounddog looks very intriguing from what I've seen.
Mamma Mia! looks like it'll be even more infectious fun that last year's Hairspray, even though from what I saw in Regal's First look, that Meryl Streep, as magnificant an actress as she often is, CAN'T SING! Still looks like fun though.
Being the HUUUUUGE X-Files fan than I have always been, it's needless to say that I'll be first in line to the new movie.
Midnight Meat Train looks like a really fun horror flick.
I love The Mummy movies and this third one should be no different although I am disappointed in there being no Vosloo or Oded Fehr and that they made the idiotic choice of recasting Edie. I love Maria Bello as an actress, but she should have played a new character instead. And from the small snippets I've heard, her accent sounds pretty horrible. Still looking forward to the movie despite those points.
Tropic Thunder looks like great fun.
I wasn't sure at first about Mirrors despite Alexander Aja and Kiefer Sutherland's involvment. But after reading an interview and descriptions of some scenes and the movie itself, consider myself siked to watch this. Sounds really awesome.
Traitor sounds like a really cool movie. Can't wait for a trailer.
Babylon A.D. looks really friggin' awesome.
Crossing Over sounds like it should be great.
And Bangkok Dangerous should be really awesome.
Movies to avoid:
The House Bunny - only interest I have in it is Katharine McPhee being in it. But the movie, sad to say, looks horrible. I didn't think this was possible, but it actually makes Legally Blonde look great by comparison.
Wanted - Just looks horrible. Cheesy and stupid and a huge waste of a good cast.
The Love Guru - It looks unbelievably bad. I mean dreadfully bad. Seriously, why Mike, why? What has happened to you? You use to be a comedy genius but now you are not even a former shadow of yourself.
Postal - Uwe Boll. Nuff said.
Movies I'm not sure about:
Pineapple Express - Looks kind of funny, but I'm just not a fan of stoner/drug comedies. So I'm not too sure about this one even though the trailer was alright.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 - the first one was surprisingly enjoyable but I'm not too sure about this one. From what I can tell in the teaser, it looks like little more than a retread of the first one. I understand that there is a whole series of books out there of these but I'm not interested if all this is is a simple retread of the first one.
Star Wars: Clone Wars - meh. Really, Lucas should just the leave Star Wars alone. Move on to something else.
Step Brothers - love Will Ferrell (who is really having an off year this year) and John C. Reilly, but this looks incredibly so-so.
The Strangers - looks like Vacancy crossed with Funny Games only not nearly as good as either. Looks incredibly mediocre to me.
War, Inc. - Love John Cusack, but this just looks mediocre. Very meh.
Summer movies I've already seen:
Iron Man - 7/10
The Accidental Husband - 7/10
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane - 5/10

Well, Iron Man has gone on to become a huge success....and Marvel Studios first big hit.
I really enjoyed it, it had a nice balance, what i liked most about it was that it didnt treat its audiences as if they were 13 year olds. The film had a "made for adults" feel to it that I liked. Non of this Spider Man/Fantastic Four bull crap, where you feel the movie was made for five year olds.
Hurray for Iron Man and its huge success!!!

I agree. Marvel did really try to treat its audience as if they were adults. Too bad their were so many 13 year olds making noise, I could barely hear the movie, but it was still great.

Whoa Digi, you sure? I saw the previews for Indy and they gave me the goosebumps! Hearing the indy score, seeing indy making his jokes "dont touch anything", and seeing him flying through the air with his whip, I mean, it was like the good old days of indy again.
This one feels like there wasnt a gap, as far as I could tell from the previews, the new indy is going to be a lot like the old indy, only a little older and willing to make fun of that fact.
Up next in this hot hot movie summer is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull! Cant believe I just typed that. ;)
By the way, is it just me or is anybody else getting the vibe like Shia is going to end up being Indys long lost son, and that this is the reason why Marianne shows up in this movie, to tell indy that shia is his son?? I wouldnt completely dismiss this idea, but this is just me speculating, I just got that vibe from the previews.
