View Full Version : Watching a Movie in Multiple Sittings

I often watch movies in two one hour sittings, or a couple different sittings. Sometimes I just don't have the time to watch the whole thing. I almost always finish the movie later that day or the next day. However I do feel a little guilty about this sometimes... SO...
My question is: In your own experience do you think this impedes on the movie watching experience? Is it blasphemous, or a perfectly acceptable practice?

I don't like to do it, but sometimes it's a necessary evil. I don't like to go to work either, but...

I never used to do this myself...but lately, I have to admit this has been happening to me. I got so much shit going on (making my own movie and all that) that Ive had to divide movies into two nights.
I hate doing it, but its like hasslebrad said, its a necessary evil.

I absolutely hate watching a movie in more than one sitting. It’s just something that irks me. But then most of the movies I actually watch are in theaters, and it’s very rare that I watch a movie at home on DVD or TV, probably because I usually don’t have the two hours that need to be dedicated to watch it entirely.

Used to do that all the time, don't so much lately. Sometimes I'll start watching and start falling asleep half way through so I'll have to finish it the following morning or evening.
I don't see a problem doing it.

Yeah I do it a lot because I will be tired or get distracted in the end or something... I would prefer one sitting, but two is not horrible.

I can't do that with movies - tv show box sets ok, but movies no - the only exception is if I'm too tired to stay up and watch it I'll shut it off and watch it the next day.
If it's a really good movie, I'll never stop it until it's done.

I'll do this if I have to, usually because I'm just too tired.

Try not to do it and I don't like doing it, but it happens sometimes.

Today was the first time in a long time I've actually done two movies in a row and I was fortunate that they were both released this year.
Iron Man, and Forbidden Kingdom.
The last time I can remember doing more than one movie in a row was watching all three directors cuts of LOTR, non-stop, and that was shortly after RTK's directors cut came out on DVD.. so mid-to-late 2004.

I only do it if I fall asleep in the middle of the movie. Otherwise, I avoid it at all costs. If I know I won't have time to watch a movie all the way through, I don't put it on.

I do it more often than I used to. If I had the time, I wouldn't do it at all. I get sidetracked and/or too busy these days.

I try not to but like everybody else said, sometimes you have to watch the rest later.
There have been times where I have purposely divided my watching time in 2, the last time I did this was for King Kong beacause of the run time. Other times I'll stop a movie but only for a short 10 minute either to get me awake again, pee break or snack stop.

I watch an entire movie/dvd in one sitting at least once a day/night. POTC:AWE took me 7 days to watch. I kept falling asleep everytime I tried to continue with it. And not because I was tired. The damn movie is SO BORING@!

When I'm in movie mode, i.e. when I have time to watch a movie, I try to watch it all the way through on the day. In my, um, "prime" like in 2005 and 2006 when I notched like 800 films in a year, I would cram three or so into a day and then sometimes I'd have to finish say, the third or fourth one the next day as I would fall asleep to a movie at night after spending an entire day watching movies.
So yeah, I'm down with the splitting up of movies and watching them over seperate periods. The great movies are the ones that are just as engaging when you break them up into pieces as they are as a whole in one sitting.

I do this nearly everynight. The only time I ever get through the whole thing is if it's an exceptional movie (9 or 10/10 usually). Otherwise, half one night, the rest the next night.
I'm usually too busy to watch an entire movie in one sitting.
Except in afew cases (i.e. Gettysburg or Branagh's Hamlet), I definatly don't prefer it, but I have done it and will do it. I'd rather watch one movie over two nights than none, and I'd rather split up into two nights a movie I want to watch instead of finding a shorter one that I'm not as keen on.
I think a truly great movie should be affecting and powerful no matter how you break it up, provided you watch it in order. I actually think pappy movies are more important to watch in one sitting (although after the first viewing it probably doesn't matter). Reason being, if you want to get caught up in an average suspense thriller or something, it's probably pretty hard to get back into the mood halfway through.
