But um...

Actress Uma Thurman testified on Thursday that she felt sickened and terrified by a man accused of stalking her and was disturbed to hear he had been in contact with her family.

"I was completely freaked out. It was like a nightmare. It was scary," the "Kill Bill" and "Pulp Fiction" actress told a Manhattan criminal court in the trial of Jack Jordan.

Jordan, 37, is accused of sending harassing e-mails to Thurman's father and brother, loitering for hours on the steps of Thurman's Manhattan apartment and visiting her trailer on a movie set.

He is charged with misdemeanor counts of stalking and harassment. If convicted, he could face up to one year in jail.

Jordan's lawyer says his client loved Thurman and was obsessed by her but that his behavior was merely "creepy" and not criminal.

Thurman's voice broke when asked about her two children, aged 6 and 9, and her hand trembled as she held a card that Jordan had sent her at a Manhattan movie set.

He wrote on it, "My hands should be on your body at all times."

Upon receiving the card, she said she phoned her family in upstate New York and learned that her father had received e-mails from Jordan and that Jordan had spoken to her mother and brother.

"I felt a stone drop in my stomach. ... The idea that this had a history made it even more terrifying," the 38-year-old actress said during the third day of the trial.

Jordan mostly stared straight ahead or down, occasionally glancing at Thurman as she testified. She did not look at him.

Yeah that card bit... Ew. :( I mean everything about that situation must suck horribly but um... Ew...

This begs the question: Stalking and harrassment laws... Celebrities get the most press on this, of course but for the common man or woman it happens. Is a year in prison lenient?

Anyone found guilty of stalking (celeb or otherwise) should be castrated and sent to live on a deserted island...:D

"My hands should be on your body at all times."

That line works for me all the time! It's not creepy.... But that could be because when I sober up, I take it back... hmm...

How do these lawyers sleep at night?
"On a pile of money, Rusty. On a BIG pile of money."

Creepy not criminal.
Sitting on the stairs of her apartment complex and waiting for her.
So he was just going to compliment her on her work and invite her out for a glass of drugged camomile tea.
Creepy not criminal.
Visiting her on set of her movies, knowing she doesn't know who the fuck he is.
But it's CREEPY, not CRIMINAL.

So because he (thankfully) didn't run into her somewhere, kidnap her, and make an Uma Thurman coat out of her skin to wear, it's not quite a criminal act.

But if he had, then he'd be sitting in an insane asylum and we'd all be mourning the woman and cursing this nutjob out.
He needs to go away for a LONG time, but not to a psych ward.
Put him in prison where the other inmates will stalk HIS ass.
Creepy, not criminal.
Not until Bubba and Molly visit him at lights out.

It doesn't have to happen again if we don't allow it to.

I do partially agree with the sentiments above, but since this aint "Minority Report" we can't start busting people for shit that aint against the law simply because they're dilluted or socially retarded and give off a "creepy" vibe. You'd have to sent in full tactical SWAT on every city bus in this nation. She needs to just take out a restraining order againt that douche and hire some help around the house...the kind of help that carry guns, know pressure points and wear tiny two-way radios in their ears.

Restraining orders are just pieces of paper... They start processes, but in the end, they're mere pieces of paper.

Sounds like a real fun way to live.
But hey, that might be exactly what Uma decides to do after this incident, so she might take your advice.

What can I say, the world is a scary, dangerous place. Stalking is just part of the lifestyle for celebrities like the paparazzi. Brad Pitt: (a woman broke into his house and took a nap in his bed wearing his clothes) Jodie Foster: (some nut job stalker her and threatened her life, hence she's become somewhat of a media recluse) I think it sucks and it's unfair but that's just the way it is.
