I wasn't a big fan of that one, the theatrical version was vastly superior.
However, I loved the alternate ending for 1408.

The Director's Cut ending was great. I never watch the theatrical cut now.

Theatrical ending blew balls as far as I'm concerned. I like to pretend that ending never happened. At least the alternate ending tried to bring the theme from the book into the movie.

Blade Runner. I've always liked the director's cut ending better than the original cut.

I didn't like the whole aspect in how the alternate ending brought the possible revelation of a new species taking over. I really loved the ending scenes in Vermont at the sanctuary where people are still alive. The movie ended perfectly, no need for an alternate ending.

In my personal opinion no one should have been alive in the first place. That in particular ruined any enjoyment I could have had from that ending.

The movie is based on a book about the last man on earth. The movie was marketed as him being the last man on earth. The fact that they even acknowledge a colony somewhere is completely and utterly stupid and takes away from the movie.
He is the last man on earth. Let him stay that way.

Well no disrespect to the book, but we're talking about the film. Being based on something doesn't mean it has to be a carbon copy. But the point of him looking for more people was about hope. There had to be others out there, and there were.

Ignoring the book, the film for me last it's steam the moment they introduced other people. It just wasn't enjoyable when the girl and the kid showed up, and I felt a little cheated. I thought I was watching a movie about the last man on earth, not the last man in New York.

Fair enough. We each got something different out of it.

I enjoyed the alternate endings to 28 Days Later, quite bleak and hopeless (minus the chicken replacing Jim one) :p
Also enjoyed the alt ending to Hide & Seek (2 out of the 4) and the Butterfly Effect alt ending.

You know what I just thought of? What if they had used the alternative ending for Clerks? It would have been the biggest bummer in the history of all endings. Seriously:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=UAdBi8ghobs
And he wasn't even supposed to be there that day! Very sad.
I swear Silent Bob came in after and took a pack of cigs? Maye thats just on the DVD special features? Hmm..

Close Encounters and as some one said, Blade Runner.
I really liked the idea of the alternate ending to Die Hard three...but I''m sure it wouldn't have worked...
on the "book compared to film" front...does anyone prefer the ending to the book of A Clockwork Orange?

I forgot this was even made. I remember watching it on the special features of the dvd. I don't remember either if Silent Bob took a pack of cigs or not. Something I'll have to watch later.

Smith's first draft of the movie was a very David Lynchian film from what Mosier said. Imagine if it went in that direction. Would have totally changed Smith's career, but I would like to read that draft.
**SPOILERS**
And it wasn't Silent Bob who came in and took a pack of cigs, the guy who shoots Dante is the one who also grabs a couple of cigarettes after raiding the cash register.

The actor who played Cohee London in Chasing Amy is the actor who shot Dante.
After the credits, Kevin Smith, but in a pony tail and glasses walks in wondering if they are open. He doesn't see Dante behind the counter on the floor and reaches behind to steal some cigs before exiting the frame...just a nameless character.
If you've got either version of the dvd the ending is there...on the deleted scenes section of the single disc and on disc two, the IFFM cut on the three disc.

I'm a big fan of the book. But I don't see how you could enjoy any of the movie if you compare it to the book. You have to take it as a completely separate entity. Because it is.

The first half of the movie captured the feel isolation and loneliness from the book perfectly. It's the second half that I didn't enjoy.
I don't care if the events that occur in the movie are accurate to the book as much as the feel. And the feel in the second half didn't match at all.

Wow I just watched it! They way they bump in each other and just pass by. The camera angle was brilliant! I loved this ending a lot, but the one one is better with the conversation with Diesel and the way the police moved in.
I love this movie. I'm watching it again right now I type this. ;)

What's the alternate ending of Chasing Amy? I'm a Kevin Smith superfan (RE: freak) and cannot recall any mention or scene involing an alternate ending...
I think maybe there might have been a hug or her following him into the room he exits into and giving a hug...but that's it.

Man On fire had an awesome ending that I think was better (not that the ending in the real one was bad) basically what happens is.
SPOILERS
Creasy is brought to the kidnappers house, and while meeting with the kidnapper, he smiles and detonates an explosive that he smuggled in the same place where he killed a man in the movie earlier.

Yeah, the alternate ending to Man on Fire was much more satisfying. It was almost what I expected to happen the first time I saw the movie.
Also Die Hard 3 had an awesome alternate ending. Vastly superior to the original. The whole climax was completely different. But it wasn't real big and show-y, and the studio thought it made McClane "too cruel," so they made them reshoot the ending as is.

I like the alternate ending to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest where they find Chief dead with that basin on top of him and reveal they installed plexiglass throughout the asylum.
Okay, that shit ain't funny.
Has anyone ever read the alternate ending for Heathers? It's a total WTF?

I wish they'd actually filmed that one. I think I might actually prefer it. Not that the one they used is bad but it might work, as insane as it is.

Yeah that ending is just so much darker than the one they ended up with. I can certainly see why the studio wasn't comfortable with the original ending.
And yeah, it's actually a very good movie too. I haven't watched it for a while, might be time for a rewatch for me too. I love Affleck's big speech, he's great in this.

It would have even worked as another dream or fantasy sequence, like if JD said, "What if I did it?" or something. Give him a monologue as it shows it maybe. I dunno. The ending the used I always felt was something of a let down in comparison with the rest. I totally get why they wouldn't want to end it like that, but the ideas behind it were really great - the ending that was used, I felt, payed a disservice to the theme of the film.
