So I've really been in a mood for a good horror or creature book to read and was just looking for some recommendations. I'm a big fan of creature books like the Meg series and things like that with good suspense. I'm a big zombie fan as well and have read some Brian Keene books and enjoyed as well as a zombie book called Dead City and also World War Z. I'm looking for something that has some good scares with good violence and gore. Any titles you can think of for me to check out? Thanks.

I recommend Ghoul by Brian Keene, but since you put you've read some of his works you may have already known of it,Stephen King's IT maybe?I can't find many myself the shelves mostly contain thrillers or romance books where I'm from and I hate both those genres.

John Dies at the End
Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk
Dying to Live: A Novel of Life Among the Undead by Kim Paffenroth
The Undead: Zombie Anthology by Eric S. Brown
Already Dead: A Novel by Charlie Huston

Thanks for the recommendation...I've read John Dies at the End and thought it was a lot of fun. I've always debated Monster Island because there are a lot of mixed reviews out there about it.

I haven't read Monster Island (or any of that trilogy) but I have read Wellington's 13 Bullets, and I was less than impressed.

Have you read anything by Jack Ketchum? Not creature stuff, but totally brutal.

I also really liked F. Paul Wilson's The Keep (which is strikingly different than the Michael Mann film). Any Wilson book, really, but especially The Keep.

I haven't read any Ketchum yet because I'm not sure what I want to read first...any suggestions?

Also F. Paul Wilson's stuff looks cool I'll give it a try. Thanks.

For Ketchum, I would start with Off Season and its sequel (which is actually superior) Offspring. If you like them, go for The Lost and The Girl Next Door (both movies now). If you like those, proceed to read every Ketchum you can find :)

Wilson is one of my favorites, but it gets daunting trying to read his stuff. There is his Adversary Cycle, and his Repairman Jack novels, which each intersect each other at certain points. But The Keep is his first book, so that is the best place to start.
