I don't listen to a whole helluva lotta new music, but from the 3 new albums I've bought so far this year I'd rank them as follows:

1. "Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace" by Offspring

2. "The Vegas Years" by Everclear

3. "Indestructible" by Disturbed

I'm looking forward to "Death Magnetic" by Metallica, plus the new Our Lady Peace, Dragon Force, and possible new Green Day albums that should be coming out later this year as well.

Side Note: I miss Audioslave :(

I haven't heard much good this year, to be honest. Jamie Lidell - Jim, maybe. That's not in an any way an album I'd call "#1 of the year" though, so I dunno.

The only standouts are the Antony tracks, everything else is just decent. The dislike is understandable though since it's basically one giant nostalgia trip to 70s disco.

Jamie Lidell was too much for me, that whole sound of the album ended up being pretty grating.

I'm with THC about not hearing anything very good this year. The only album I found to be good was The Presets album, but I really hope that come December it doesn't end up being my favourite of the year since it's hardly an amazing album.

What the fuck is up with some of these albums getting tons of praise this year? No Age? Deerhunter? Fuck Buttons? The Cool Kids? Lil Wayne? Los Campesinos?! All of those albums were boring as fuck or just okay.

I root for Hercules and Love Affair because I, weirdly enough, possess an irrational affection for them but I cannot seem to get entirely into their album...there are some killer songs for sure but I dunno, I suppose I'm looking for more of a flow. Their hype-garnering status doesn't bother me at all.

And I still like that Vampire Weekend album! It should be all cloying and the like but it charms me every time. It transports me to that romanticized version of Ivy league living I had when I was like in high school.

That Hot Chip album is underrated too. Talented guys.

Any opinions on the latest Bonnie "Prince" Billy album? I thought Oldham was indie royalty but I've heard nothing from these parts.

I have only been able to listen to a bunch of mostly commerical stuff so I havent had time to listen to a bunch of obscure bands. I need to get on top of that.

So far my picks are...

1. The Mars Volta
2. TV on the Radio
3. Gnarles Barkley
4. The Raconteurs
5. Beck
6. Portishead
7.?
8.?
9.?
10.?

Only 6 albums I have really really dug so far. Hip Hop has been really dissapointing so far this year.

I want to add "Ultra Beatdown" by DragonForce and "Death Magnetic" by Metallica to my list. So I can do a top 5, since there's not been 10 new albums released this year, that I care to pick:

1. Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace - The Offspring
2. Death Magnetic - Metallica
3. Ultra Beatdown - DragonForce
4. The Vegas Years - Everclear
5. Indestructible - Disturbed

The new Disturbed album is number 5, because out of the 12 songs, only 6 of them were good. The other half sucked fucking balls, and the album overall was a disappointment (just like Disturbed's live shows are - I've unfortunately found out).

Anyway, my top 3 have been stand-out albums for me, and some of my favourite albums from those bands.

You really liked the new offspring that much? These guys have been one of my favorite bands since I was like 7 and I personally found it to be their weakest release to date.

Absolutely loved it. My 2nd favourite album of theirs behind Americana.
