Ever since re-watching The Sixth Sense on ABC Family I've ponderred if I was the only person who found it overrated.I definitelly respect it and find it DECENT,but thats all,not the horror masterpiece of the century.Opinions anyone?

I don't think it's over-rated, but I agree it's not a "horror masterpiece." Still, it's a great ghost-story. ABC Family probably isn't the best venue for this movie, though. I can only imagine what they cut out.

I definately wouldn't call it a horror masterpiece but it's a great piece of film making.

I was there at the right time when it came out, before all the pop cultural hoopla made this into "The Twist, the whole Twist, and nothing but the Twist" movie. There's a lot more to it than just that, and while it can't be denied that the near 300 million that the picture made in the U.S. was a result of said ending getting the watercooler gents and femmes back into theaters, I think it is a near masterwork, and Shyamalan has nearly approached that level with The Village.
It's a time capsule of a moment -- five consecutive weekends as the number one film, the one film people just had to recommend to their friends, actually increasing the box office cume in its third weekend, I believe, something that the modern age of frontloaded movies haven't done. Night was worried that Blair Witch would basically stop his film dead in its tracks, but I think the reverse held true.
Unfortunately, he's had to live up to the film, the ending, everything, and has become a bit of a punching bag from talkbackers online if every twist doesn't live up
I don't think it's overrated in the least, although some of the early reviews were negative. What I found irritating were the semi-conscious reviewers deriding the film as boring who suddenly decided to up their rating based on the ending -- check out IMDB, there are a lot of those critiques, and they are part of the reason for Night's pigeonhold status. I can't say he's a great filmmaker without probably getting my head chewed off, but he's definitely one of my favorites.

I've never heard it referred to as a horror masterpiece. I do think it's great though.

Gets worse with every viewing, loved it at first but it's slowly dropped down to a 6/10. Not a bad film but not as great as some make it out to be.

Definitely NOT a "masterpiece" by any means. A very interesting/entertaining movie at the very least though. I actually just saw this about a month or two ago for the first time. I never bothered to when it first came out, cuz after a few days/weeks, the ending was instantly ruined for me, which was a fucking bitch.
But even knowing the whole "twist" to it, I still thought it was pretty well done. Probably Shymalan's 3rd best movie behind Unbreakable and Lady in the Water.

It wasn't over-rated the first time i watched it. But after that it is because i can never watch it again because of the ending.

It played better in theaters because of the twist ending. But Toni Collette was fantastic, as were Haley Joel and Bruce.

Thought it was an excellent movie...however, it WAS overrated. No movie is as good as the masses made it out to be. It also churned out the big "shock" ending, which killed the trend.

First time I watched it, it blew me away. But then came The Others, and I learned what a really good ghost story is like. Better acting from the lead (Kidman vs Willis), better atmosphere and no plot holes.
It's still a very good movie though, but not perfect.

I honestly just found out that I really dislike Shayamalan's movies. None of them make any sense. But there's no denying that this one's a pretty tense, really well shot and well acted movie.
Still, definitely overrated.

awww what about unbreakable?
I havent seen this movie since junior high... but uhm, the direction was great from what I remember. overrated, yes, masterpiece, well its definitly a masterpiece in my memory.
and ABC Family is mosdef the wrong way to watch this, though I did just see House of Wax on FX and enjoyed it.
dont hold that against me.

awww what about unbreakable? Never saw it complete, can't have an opinion. I walked out of the theatre halfway through. Not because it was lame, I just had to go. I did like what I saw, though, but most Shayamalan movies have awesome first halves and awful second halves.
