I think this is an interesting read. There is constant talk of a split in the Democratic party due to the contentious race, but few discuss the split going on in the GOP.

Haha...Ron Paul has a manifesto now? Does his solution to every problem have the same anti-government solution? Some manifesto. Oh well, he's been a strangely likable character throughout this race. His likability stems from the hateful nature of his opponents, but he did provide some variety in the debates.

I saw that terrible movie Slacker a couple of weeks ago and saw this giant banner in the movie that said Ron Paul for President back when he was on the Libertarian ticket in 1988.

How can you not like Ron Paul? He looks just like Ian McKellen! I think he could've been the front runner if he made a key change to his campaign.

VOTE MAGNETO! TAKE DOWN BIG GOVERNMENT IN 2008!

The GOP likely doesn't care about Paul's supporters too much. Simply because they are only Republicans so they can vote for him, and they'll be gone as soon as he is.

To compare a McCain/Paul vote split to Clinton/Obama is laughable at best. The Clinton/Obama split is by people who hold a great deal of power and influence within the party, and they are talking about the divisions it could leave for the future. Paul's candidacy will leave no lasting effect on the GOP, and all the fairweather fans of his will just ditch the GOP once the next "fuck the government" candidate comes by, regardless of what party they choose to affiliate themselves with.

The GOP may not be concerned about Paul but they are very worried about Bob Barr, who will run as a Libertarian, something he formally announced today.

I thought Gravel was running for the Libertarians.

Thank you for the astute political analysis. I can't wait to see what you have to say in the future. You are a genius!

Did you read the story? Paul raised $35 million and got a million votes. Nobody is saying he has a shot at being the GOP nominee. He's just trying to stir shit up. He has already had some success: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/04/ronpaul.html

Here's an item about Barr. Haven't heard anything about Gravel lately.

We're just going to have to come to terms with the fact that Hillary Clinton, John McCain, or Barack Obama will be the next president. There are party crashers every convention consisting of some atypical party group backing a fringe candidate. They rarely succeed, and when they do it's a result of severe party friction and already close electoral margins. John McCain won the nomination pretty handily, so even the extreme right wingers within the party who hate him like Ann Coulter are in a small minority.

Considering how close the last two elections were, all it takes is a small minority to influence the final result. Nader in 2000 is a good example.

This'll never happen, but I'd laugh my ass off if he ran as a third party candidate.

Uh, let me narrow it down for you: Get used to hearing the words "President Obama" used frequently.
