THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT! This movie was banned in alot of places. The ban of it in England was just lifted not too long ago. Two girls out for ones b-day get kidnapped by escape cons and brutally raped, tortured, and murdered. I mean they do some sick shit to them. Their car breaks down and they end up at the house of one of the girls. Needless to say the parents figure out what happened to the girls and exact their own revenge. the scene where the mom gives one of the cons a blowjob just so she can bite his dick off is fucking great! This is truely a classic. this movie was also written and directed by WES CRAVEN. The producer was SEAN CUNNINGHAM director famous for the FRIDAY THE 13TH movies. The main bad guy played by David Hess has to be one of the creepiest people to hit the silver screen. This is a MUST SEE movie for all horror fans.

An okay movie, not as good as its rep implies, though David Hess OWNED as Krug Stillo...

I've been wanting to see this for a long time but still have been putting it off to pick up other movies. Plus I told myself I should really take a break from the exploitation genre after watching Cannibal Holocaust cause that one left me feeling pretty damn weird.

It's decent, Hess was great as Krug, the other actor's do decent jobs. I've always found the censorship of it in the UK to be stupid though, I saw the scenes that were edited for the dvd and it's just pointless.

I Spit on Your Grave is better.

Should have been banned cause it was terrible. It's a classic for a reason, cause people feel "smart" for liking it. While it had a good story, the acting, directing, writing... everything was shit... utter shit. One of the few flicks I actually look forward to the remake of.

I finally saw it on Fearnet about a year ago. I can't really call it horror, but it is disturbing. Maybe it would've had more of an impact if they didn't keep interrupting the action with those hick police officers and the goofy music. The movie does have that raw '70s horror feel though that I like a lot more than the slicker new stuff.

Spoilers

I thought it was very powerful at times and was very disturbing. The deaths of the two girls (Especially at the merciless way Mari died) were depressing. David Hess did a great job as the scary as hell Krug. I just wish that they cut out all the really lame scenes with the cops and got a couple of better actors to play the parents (Hopefully the remake corrects these two factors). The parents were okay, but really just needed to show a lot more emotion. That said, the last fifteen minutes were still really fufilling.

I will never understand why this film was banned when it was released, but given the time period of the early 1970s, this seemed fairly graphic I suppose. I thought it was pretty decent overall. David Hess was extremely sadistic, as was the other two main villians. However, the inclusion of the two bumbling cops (one played by Martin "John Kreese" Kove,) and that horrible country music really diluted some of the impact of the film. I thought it was totally uneccessary and seriously damaged the film's grim tone. One that note, I prefer I Spit On Your Grave, anyday over The Last House on the Left, but I still recommend the movie, if horror buffs want to catch a glimpse at Wes Craven's directorial debut. 6.5/10

I love this movie, one of the first real horror movies I ever saw. The only things I dont like about this movie are the cops, and the lighthearted music at certain scenes, really took away from it. Other then that its gritty, real, and does that moral questioning thing that those good movies do. I used to like I spit more, but its been awhile since I've seen that and I have to say Last House is better.

Of all the horror movies I've seen, none have accomplished their goals as well as Henry and Last House on the Left. THESE movies challenge the definition of entertainment, not newer movies like Inside. Inside I've been able to watch 4 times, Henry and Last House I barely have the energy to watch. Its because Henry and Last House are so bleak, so real. Movies like Inside which garner praise from most horror fans, are missing all the things Last House has.

Last House is so perfect in what it does you can practically hear the reel turning.

One of the few flicks I actually look forward to the remake of.

Why? The story would hardly change, itll still be about two girls getting raped and their parents getting brutal revenge. Itll be extremely violent, except with faster editing and pristine, perfect quality film. And I dont need to say how much that detracts from the appeal of the original. Its also sad that I guess I cant like this movie without being called a pretentious douche who wants to come off as intelligent.

What do you value?

I will never understand why this film was banned when it was released, but given the time period of the early 1970s, this seemed fairly graphic I suppose.

Apart from being very graphic for a movie released in 1972. You have to look at the time period, like Landis said in that famous round table discussion, it all depends on when the movie is released. Apart from that you can also draw parallels with the release of Henry. Henry was originally finished in 1986 but the MPAA gave it an NC-17 and said there is no way it would EVER get anything lower then that no matter what they cut out. The reason is because the movie has no characters with morals, no one to look up to. Last House is similar, it challenges you with its protagonists (who are they?). The two innocent girls are rapid and murdered, then their parents go down to that same level (this is where it challenges you, some disagree with me and say its justified). I mean the mother bites the mans dick off...

THIS is the sickest film ever!As a person who has seen practically all of Wes Craven's work (The man who inspired me into horror)and read Clive Barker, and seen INSIDE,this film actually scares me!It is downright disturbing, brutal and horrifying in every aspect of the word.

-SPOILERS-

When they make Mari urinate herself, when the son motorboats his mother, and when Mari's mother bites Krug's johnson off never fail to gross me out.
-SPOILERS OVER-

This is exploition cinema at It's absolute finest, and if you can sit through it you are a truly sick person.
