This a movie that has held up to the test of time.. When this movie came out i saw it and it scared the shit out of me!!!(i think i was 12 or 13).I just recently watched it and it still creeped me out. This Jack Nickolson at his best!(HEEEERES JOHNNY!!!).There have been attempts to remake it but they suck! this is a classic that should be left alone. definitly one of my all time faves. Not so much on gore it lets your mind fill in the blanks which is sometimes better.

Stephen King I believe tryed to make a TV series out of it. Which only proved what we knew before when he made maximum over drive and that is that he should stick to writing. It is an untouchable classic alot like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre it has with held the test of time still shocking after this many years.

King only wrote the TV mini-series (not a remake, a re-adaptation), I actually really enjoyed it, watched the whole thing in one sitting!
Nicholson is what really makes The Shining work, his performance and change as Jack is fantastic and becomes very creepy. Very nicely directed too, the shots through the halls and the maze are excellent.

Just watched this yesterday, and I agree great film. Nicholson is really creepy in this, and easily ranks among one of my favorite villians ever.

Yes, my friends, words can't do this movie justice alone. It's been 28 years since the Shining terrified audiences, and I'm proud to declare that it has lost none of its impact. One of the most disturbing horror movies ever produced (even though Stephen King disowned it; what the hell does he know, I love the man's books, but when it comes down to writing screenplays he seems to be suffering from a chronic case of writer's block, look no further than Maximum Overdrive for proof.) Jack Nicholson should have been nominated for an Oscar for his performance in this one, he plays a complete psycho like no other. Bravo, sir!!! Even Shelly Duvall (yes, she is ugly as fucking sin,) but damnit all to hell she fucking rocked in this movie. The kid who played Danny was creepy and handle himself rather well. Scatman Crothers plays the sympathetic cook that shares the same unusual powers as Danny (however, I couldn't help but feel sorry for his character, he travels all the way back to the hotel, only to get an axe buried in his chest the moment he walks through the door, waste of time if you ask me, hope someone can reimburse his frequent flyer miles.) Also, who couldn't forget the creepy and disturbing images throughout the film: the two creepy twin girls ("Come play with us Danny,") the putrefying old woman in the bathtub (FUCKING SCARY, especially her hideous cackle,) the river of blood that poured out of the elevator, and finally what the fuck was up with that old man and that dude in the bear costume. (BRRRRR!!!!) All in all, a fantastic horror movie and like a fine bottle of wine, one that just gets better with age. Check this one out now. HERE'S JOHNNY!!!!!!!!!!!

For me it gets a 9.9/10. The only 1% that is wrong with it, is that it kind of has slow pacing.

it's pretty flawless and i get the heebie jeebies just THINKING about certain scenes.
the bear fellatio and blood flooding from the elavators in particular.
*shudder*
I look at it as a drama as much as a horror. I have no idea, but I really liked Jack Torrance at the beginning, and it made me really sad to see what happened.
