it's been a couple of years since I have seen dawn of the dead, the original. I decided that I wanted to watch all of the dead movies so i go to put them in my queue and i see that there is also a european cut. im just curious to know if anyone has seen both, and which is the better one to rent. any help would be appreciated.

The Ultimate edition has every version on it. If memory serves, the Euopean version was edited by Dario Argento and is around ten mins shorter than the theatrical release, but with a few extended scenes (all of which are in the extended version) and I'm pretty sure has some extra Goblin tracks.

A rare case where the theatrical is truly the best version...:D

I actually just bought the ultimate edition of Dawn of the Dead just a few days ago. I really didn't like the Euro cut of Dawn of the Dead. The thing I hated most about it was the way the soundtrack was thrown together. Dario threw the music tracks on there without much consideration and most the times they were either repetitive or didn't fit the scene they were in. It especially sucked that they didn't have the southern rock song playing during the redneck scene.

The American cut is great, but I just finished the extended cut, and I have to say I really like that one as well. Those are the best two.

And so you know, I bough the Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition for only $21. I think it was originally around $40 when it was first released. Definetly worth the buy.

I did a whole comparison paper on all 3 versions for a film class in high school. In the end the theatrical cut is the superior, the extended cut is great too (totally changes the whole scene before they get in the helicopter) and the argento cut is great to. Really if your very familiar with the original and want a little more its cool to check those out, the argento cut is a little darker and he wanted it to be more of an action film, so youll hear this one actiony gobin song 30 times. atleast.

oh and when i say the argento cut is darker, i mean literally, he made the movie darker. you might need to turn up the brightness a few times.

brenden thats a great buy, i thought it was out of print?

All I know was it was still on the shelf at the Newbury Comics I bought it at. The plastic wrapping was pretty easy to remove though so maybe it was a used copy that they just forgot to label as used.
