AMC network's been showing The Fury (1978) on its "Fear Friday" late night line-up over the last few months. I usually catch it when it's on and always find it pretty entertaining.
Others who've seen it would most likely agree that it's somewhat similar to Carrie and Scanners, though not a rip-off. In fact the only similarity is the basic theme on telekinesis. In some ways I'd argue that The Fury is as good as either of the other two films. Personally, I found it a bit more intense than
Carrie, and just as graphic as Scanners.
Any thoughts and opinions?

Cassavetes is fun as the villain and Fiona Lewis's death is cool and nasty, otherwise the film is average...

Watched this without hearing/reading anything about it and loved it, great acting and direction, good, interesting plot and characters. Might even prefer it to Carrie and Scanners. Damn good film.

I saw this when I first started getting into De Palma.
Scanners is waaaayyyyy better. Other then sharing telekinesis, they both have exploding heads.
Scanners is definitely more graphic and fits better in the Sci-Fi category then Fury does. Kirk Douglas is probably the best part of the movie. I remember really hating his kid though, he was worse then the lead in Scanners.
Either way theyre both being remade.

Haha I've picked up huge amounts of cheap DVDs from Asda, the highlight being the Phantasm boxset (digipack not the ball) for 15 quid I think within a couple of weeks of it coming out.
Anyway, I keep seeing The Fury on the shelf at my local Blockbuster. I'm running out of stuff to rent from there so I'll probably give this a go.
Has there ever been a director as hit-and-miss as De Palma though?

Argento? But no De Palma is soooo hit-or-miss. If you really think about it though, hes a terrible writer, but with a camera he knows what hes doing. No matter how derivative of Hitchcock or Argento.
