And possibly piano?

I'm on a hitch here. I LOVE Darling Violetta's "Angel" theme, and the entire soundtrack to The Fountain is INCREDIBLE. There's something about those slow moving strings... I dont know man.

Is there any great bands out there that utilize violin strings? Im a rock n roll guy, so I'm not talking classical here.

not on all songs, but the band HURT utilizes strings on several songs (lead singer plays violin)

These songs by them have strings:

Off "Vol. 1"

- Shallow
- Overdose
- Danse Russe
- Cold Inside
- House Carpenter

Off "Vol. 2"

- Aftermath
- Alone With the Sea
- Talking to God
- Loded
- Assurance
- On the Radio

Miasma and the Carousel of Headless Horses
Gentle Giant
The Mahavishnu Orchestra (If you're into fusion)

One of my favourite bands that heavily uses strings is Alamaailman Vasarat. Both string players are cellists, not violinists, but they are still well worth checking out.

yes, this is true; they do use electric violin.....

i'd say they're emo-rock though....but i guess that's being picky.

I'm not too fond of yellowcard, however I did see them at a free concert at college 2 years ago, and they rocked hard on that violin. Some songs he just goes nuts on it and breaks it down pretty well.. it mixes good with the rest of the song and has a unique sound to it.

Oh, if you're looking for a rock act with prevelant piano work look no further than Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Preferably his first four albums, as it's amazing piano work all around.

I will say some of those are good, but very few, if any, reach the awesomeness of the violins in Darling Violette's Angel track.

Apocalyptica uses violins alot and piano here and there. They are a little more metal than rock. But they have a classical music feel to them.
