View Full Version : DNC Seats Michigan and Florida

Cop No. 633

WASHINGTON — Democratic Party officials agreed Saturday to seat Michigan and Florida delegates with half-votes, ruling on a long-running dispute that has threatened the party's chances in November and maintaining Barack Obama's front-runner status as he moves closer to the nomination.

The decision was a blow to Hillary Rodham Clinton as she was on the verge of watching Obama make history as the first black Democratic presidential nominee. It prompted an irate reaction from boisterous Clinton supporters in the audience and her chief delegate counter, Harold Ickes.

Ickes angrily informed the party's Rules Committee that Clinton had instructed him to reserve her right to appeal the matter to the Democrats' credentials committee, which could potentially drag the matter to the party's convention in August.

The resolution increased the number of delegates needed to clinch the nomination to 2,118, leaving Obama 66 delegates short but still within striking distance after the three final primaries are held in the next three days.

The deal was reached after committee members met privately for more than three hours, trying to hammer out a deal, and announced in a raucous hearing that reflected deep divisions within the party.

Wow, looks like they settled it on that issue. It just happened today. Looks like they were serious about ending it by early June.

I know people will complain, at least Hillary supporters, but Florida and Michigan went against the rules. I think they made the right judgement. It was setup to vote like this for reason, just follow the rules.

Not only that, but all the nominees except Hillary pulled their name off the Michigan ballot, so it's not really like she "won" that state.

This really proves how fucking desperate Clinton is about trying to have some sort of shot at winning the nomination. Once the IN/NC primaries came in and everyone started calling the nomination for Obama she began to cry foul over the FL/MI issue and really step it up. Of course she wouldn't have the seating done in any other way but hers which meant no delegates for Obama (it shows how fucking slimy Clinton and some of her supporters are for trying to punish Obama who was following his party's rules). So now Clinton went from about 244 delegates away from the nomination to 240.5 or so and Obama went from 41 to 60+.

I hope that some superdelegates can see through Clinton's pathetic attempt to drag this thing out further and start pledging to Obama so this can be wrapped up quick. I know that people like Pelosi are trying to get undetermined superdels to pick someone so this can end already. Clinton's just become a burden on her party now, she should just give it up already.

And people who will vote McCain if Clinton doesn't get the nom shouldn't be able to vote. It shows how some people are when they go against everything they agree with out of spite against their favourite pick losing.

I sort of agree with Carlin on the election at this point: "It's good theater."

I couldn't possibly have said anything better than this.

Apparently even with these delegates being seated, she's still just short of Obama's delegate numbers. It's over--she needs to stand down NOW.

Kind of see why the Clintons get this ruthless reputation now. I mean, it's one thing to fight for the nom. until the bitter end and then there's the risk of dividing your own party in the process, Wtf?

Meanwhile, McBush has had little or no campaign opposition up to this point. Advantage: repukes. Fuckin' Hillary.
