Release Date: July 8th
Paramount Home Entertainment has announced rated and unrated editions of The Ruins which stars Jonathan Tucker, Shawn Ashmore, Jena Malone, and Laura Ramsey. Each will carry an anamorphic widescreen transfer, and English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. As far as we know, no extra material will be included on the rated edition. The unrated DVD will include a commentary by Director Carter Smith and Editor Jeff Betancourt, 3 featurettes (Making The Ruins, Creeping Death, Building The Ruins), 5 additional scenes (Rain, Celebration, Going Over The Escape Plan, Alternate Ending, Original Theatrical Ending), and trailers. An unrated Blu-ray edition will also be available with identical features.
Loved this movie, I'm loving the cover art, and I'm loving the fact that it has an alternate and original theatrical ending. Hopefully one of those is the same as the book ending.

Also just a little tip to my fellow schmoes, DVDactive does not allow copying and posting of Pictures, so you have to save them and then upload them on a site like Imageshack.

I hope the unrated version is like the novel.

Agreed on hoping it's more like the novel midnight. On a side note, could they be any lazier in doing the unrated edition's coverart? I mean, at least it's not the same, but seriously, just change the hue from blue to orange, come on.

Will THE RUINS really make me squirm, cringe, and bite my nails, as the cover blurb states?
I sense shenanigans.

Here`s the scoop on the unrated cut (SPOILERS):
- There`s a scene once they reach the top of the temple where Mathias discovers the body of his dead brother covered in vines. He tears them off, weeping. Amy tries to comfort him, but fails. The group gathers around and continues to watch the Mayans surround the temple. Mathias hands have turned red and burned - Jeff thinks he has had an allergic reaction to the plants.
- The first night at the ruins, Stacy, Eric and Amy all are in the tent. Thinking Amy is asleep, Stacy pulls Eric closer to her, and she gives him a little...quickie handjob.
- The amputation scene is bloodier, as is Stacys` operation scene.
- The ending: Amy gets in the jeep and drives away. As she drives away, there is a shot (one that was cut down in the theatrical version) where we see vines slowly appear and under her eye and lower cheek. She lifts her hand and presses on them, causing her eye to fill with blood. Cut to black. Greeks.
- Deleted scenes: Rain, Celebration, and Going Over the Escape Plan
- Alternate Ending (Rumoured, not confirmed): Amy cheek-eye-vine. Cut to black. Cut to her tombstone. The groundskeeper stops near it as he is distracted by a ringing which appears to be coming from the bright red flowers growing from her grave. He bends over to touch one.

Great to hear that those made the DVD cut.

Will be blown out of proportion by nearly everyone who hasn't read the novel, but was a truly great part of the novel which is more part of the psychological aspect.
- The amputation scene is bloodier, as is Stacys` operation scene.
GORGEOUS! :D

Although not exactly what I wanted, it's better than the theatrical ending. I guess they really couldn't do it like the book ending because of all the character change, but Amy could have done what Stacy did after Jeff failed to escape, like in the book.
Interesting, very interesting. Not sure what to think of it, but it's definitely interesting.

Love the cover art, I didn't think much of The Ruins but I'll probably give it a rent before or after after I've read the book, maybe I'll like it more a second time round.
