New cd coming out on the 10th. Anyone looking forward to this?
I have been looking forward to this for awhile considering he hasnt released a solo cd since Tha Carter 2. It really doesnt seem like the music of choice of these boards but try listening to Mr.Carter ft. Jay-Z. Its good shit.

I think Lil Wayne is one of the worst rappers in the game. He keeps popping up on a bunch of really good mixtapes and albums, though. The only song I've ever enjoyed him on his Hello Brooklyn 2.0 on Jay-Z's American Gangster.

I already listened to his album a few days, its what you're pretty much expecting. He steps up his game on a few tracks but dumbs it down on others. I guess your opinion on TC3 is going to differ depending on how much you've bought into the hype

I enjoyed Tha Carter, but not much else of him. He isn't terrible, but far from great. You find much worse right now in rap, much worse. I really hate the majority of rap music, it is really a joke.

Wayne is good relatively speaking. As so many people have indicated (even a ton of rappers), hip hop is dying. Wayne is pretty fun, he doesn't have the same depth that the great rappers from the 80's and 90's had. I give him a listen strictly from a fun standpoint, but when it comes to overall quality and artistic ability, dude comes up real short.

For the most part, I really don't like Lil' Wayne. I think Lollipop is a fun song, but I normally can't stand him. The songs that he was featured on were the by far the worst parts of the most recent Jay-Z and Kanye West cds. I don't understand all the hype about him being the best in the game when there are numerous rappers leagues better than him, both popular and more underground artists.

If Lil Wayne is the "best rapper alive" then everyother rapper must have been killed or something cause that shit is ridiculous.

He will never touch some of the greats. He has the ability to say some funny things here and there but thats about it. He cant tell a story in his music (like Biggie or Nas) and he isnt very deep (like 2Pac or Common). Also his production and creavity arent really that special (like Outkast ) so really I dont get all the hype for the Carter III.

I'll probably burn the cd from one of my friends who literally buys any new rap album that comes out on Tuesdays haha. But I am not gonna give my hard earned cash to Lil Wayne.

I don't think 2pac or Common and Outkast are up there amongst the best either, although very good rappers in their own sense. Common is great, very consious, 2pac had a great flow and was a great MC, but I couldn't rank him among the best. Outkast continue to bring new trends to hip-hop, though, and also maintain talent at the same time. All deserve respect, but when I think of the greatest rappers, I think Nas, Jay-Z, El Producto, the NWA crew, KRS-One, etc. But, that's just my opinion.

i dont really like Rap music... i was flipping through the stations and came across the Lollipop song, and the hook really caught me... the lyrics were pretty comical to an extent... so i just kept it on, and thoroughly enjoyed the track.

Every so often that happens to me, ill be flipping, ill hear a catchy hook and i will discover a new rap song that i would have never heard (last time this happened was Ridin Dirty by Chamillionaire)

I have no intentions on buying the CD, because im sure i wont like the other tracks, but that one track, very enjoyable!

Lil Wayne is like the family guy of rap, he just says the most random shit and some people think that makes its briliant or great... IMO he has like 5-10 decent songs and the rest is trash...

Though the remix to lolipop is 1000000x better than the original and one of the best songs this summer, 'Put On' by Jeezy is a still better though.

Lil Wayne is hilarious...

haha yeah.. he is.. but i cant take him seriously and think hes just a big joke, therefore.. the greatest rapper alive thing, to me, is his way of a joke. Unless he actually thinks that.. which again, is still hilarious.

To be fair, he is way more than a party rapper, more than that Lollipop stuff, check out some tracks on his albums besides the singles and you'll see, but I still don't think he is good at all.

Wayne gets credit for 2 reason:

1) he actually managed to have a decent solo career after being part of a group. This is pretty rare. A lot of people sound hot rapping 8-10 bars at a time, but when they come out with an album it flops. Remember Drag-On from the Ruff Ryders? Easily was the star of the Ruff Ryders Compilation albums, then he comes out on his own, and he flat out sucks. Same can be said for G-Unit members (went platinum cause of the buzz, but their sophomore albums sucked) and many others.

2) He's actually improving. He started out as the "Bling Bling" kid... just flaunting money and all that stupid, nonsensical stuff. Now, he still makes songs like that, but he's had a few good club songs, and even some deeper ones (F Tha World comes to mind). A lot of rappers who are decent stay the same over the course of a loooong time. Fabolous will never be more than a punchline king, which is fine. Wayne has actually matured with age and evolved as an artist.

Now, is he great? He's one of the better rappers going now, but I don't think any one in their right mind thinks he's one of the all-time bests.

Alright just got tha carter 3 today....its solid not great though. Theres a couple really good tracks but alot of fucking annoying ones too. Alot of the better songs was when he kept it simple like Shoot Me Down, Mr.Carter, Dr.Carter, Tie My Hands...but songs like Phone Home and possibly the worst produced song all year...La La. I challenge anyone to listen to 30 seconds of that songs without wanting to smash the cd. Overall Id say about a 3.5/5.

I have Tha Carter III and let me tell you, apart from a few good songs, he sounds like a promathezyne-sipping crackhead on every track. Makes me think he couldn't rap a birthday present.

And WTF happened to the track produced by Just Blaze and featuring Ludacris called Eat You Alive?!

Only when I'm as blazed as Wayne is when he records his shit is it fun to listen to him. When I'm sober I really don't get into it, but after I take 3 Ls to the head...

Well then I love, live, life, then I'm dead.

He is a badass, I'll give him that. But since Nas is still alive, he isn't the greatest alive.

I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully there's a bonus cd that drops soon with that on it

Well, he must be doing something right. The Carter III sold 423,000 copies its first day! And is on pace to sell 900,000 the first week.

I took a listen to it just to see what all the hype was about and man what a shitty album. I read an article in SPIN saying that Lil Wayne recorded over 200 tracks for this album...and THESE were the best ones????

he actually already went platinum... that's how desperate people are for decent rap music.

Pussy Monster is a sick track (check Youtube for various a cappella renditions). And Tha Carter III is awesome after a few bowl hits.
