I had forgotten about this movie until a few minutes ago when it was brought up in a discussion about Edward Norton. Damn, this movie is severely underrated and was one of my favorites of 2002.

I was kind of dissapointed. Admittedly devito had a lot to live up to. After all he made one of the best black comedies ever in war of The roses.

Robin Williams was fucking hilarious in this movie...

-Bastard Son of Barney! Die! Die, stuffed ball of fluff! Illegitimate Teletubbie! Die, you Muppet from hell! Die, you foam motherfucker!

-What are you, blind? It's a cock! It's not a rocket, you sick fuck! It's a cock! Look. It's a cock and balls! A dick! Chorizo and the huevos! It's a big stiffy! It's a penis! Penis maximus! A willie! A weenie! Mr. Jiggle Daddy! The one-eyed wonder weasel! Don't you see that? It's Jimmy and the twins. Rumple Foreskin. He made this. It's made from dil-dough.

-You better grow eyes in the back of your head, you horned piece of shit, because I'm not gonna sleep until worms are crawling up your foam-rubber ass! I'm goin' on safari motherfucker! SAH-FAR-I!

-Hello, little nipple-nibbler. The rhino's a Nazi!

-I'm Rainbow Fucking Randolph!

-: Look what you've done to this place. It's all Diane Fosse. When I lived here, it was Bob Fosse. Right there, I had a big painting of a naked chick holding a little plant; very tasteful, no bush... not a picture of your fucking mother!

-My name isn't Wandolph! It's Randolph! Somebody touched my ass! Get away from me! Don't touch me!

-LET GO OF ME... YOU FUCKING JUNKIE

a gem. ridiculous fun

my favorite scene has always been and always will be with robin williams prancing around, singing, only to hit a wall as the camera still panned afterwards :D

the safari quote fucking made this movie.

the first time i watched this, i was really disappointed...so a friend of mine kept quoting it and i gave it another shot...and fucking loved it. in all honesty...this is exact same way i felt about anchorman, until i watched it every goddamn night because its simply fucking awesome.

Haven't seen it in a long time but from what I remember it was okay, nothing more, nothing less.

It could've gone in far darker direction than it eventually did...a disappointment, even if the cast do try their best.

Yeah, just based on the title alone, this film should have been a pitch black comedy. Instead, it touched on the subject with kid's gloves. I wanted more from the film. It didn't have enough material for me to laugh consistently.

5/10

I loved this one.... Norton and Williams are brilliant in it. Just a fun movie. This was when Williams was on a role, trying different stuff (being the "bad guy") in this, Insomniac and One Hour Photo. Wish he'd do more roles like these.

I always find it amusing that people either really like it, or really hate the damn thing.

I for one LOVED it. You have Edward Norton and Robin Williams who are fantastic in this, plus its directed by Danny DeVito! "Look kids, it's a rocket ship!".

The cast is excellent, and I love the "Your stepdad's not mean he's just adjusting" song, but it should have been a whole lot edgier and funnier than it turned out to be.

Hmm, haven't seen the movie in a while so here's a comment I posted on IMDb 5 years ago:

When I saw the trailer for Death To Smoochy, I thought it looked hilarious. I went on the website and everything, I got really excited. This seemed like a promising, very funny movie. Then when I actually saw it...it wasn't good at all. It was stupid. I can't understand how a movie with such a great cast and a director who has proved he's the king of black comedies could be so disappointing. To me, at least.

Here's where my problem is: The parts with Rainbow Raindolph trying to sabotage Smoochy are hilarious. I admit that. But the whole plot about the mob, and the 'reality' behind children's TV shows is just retarded. What the hell kind of satirical statement is that? It's sort of funny to think, "hey, what if the makers behind Sesame Street are really insane drug addicts with ties to the mob?" and things like that, but Death To Smoochy takes that idea too far. It would be a lot funnier if it was just about Rainbow Randolph VS. Smoochy.

I'd recommend just watching the trailer for this one. I'm not sure exactly how long the actual movie was, but however long it was it felt TOO long. The trailer gets all the best humour of the movie in just 2 minutes.

My rating: 4/10

Maybe I should watch it again, though.

I hadn't seen this in a long time. I watched it again in full last night. Yep, enjoyable and still peculiar.

And for folks who don't like Robin Williams, he's getting his ass kicked a good chunk of the time! What's not to love? Hehehe

I wanna try that OJ and liquid alfalfa extract combo. Apparently it'll be blast-off time.
