Ok so I'm up late one night and there's nothing on the premium channels so I change to TNT to see Cinderella Man and it's about a half hour or so into the movie.

Now, normally I would never talk about a movie on the forums having not seen it all the way through first. That being said, I CAN'T RESIST TALKING ABOUT THIS MOVIE.

The performances, amazing...they just felt so honest and genuine I couldn't think of a single bad thing to say. I don't care if Giamatti doesn't know a damn thing about boxing, I'D WANT THAT MAN IN MY CORNER 7 DAYS A WEEK, AND TWICE ON SUNDAY. Craig Bierko has officially knocked William Zabka off his pedestal as the lord of movie scumbags (that's a good thing, btw) and even Zellweger who I sometimes can't stand was great.

But Crowe...jeez...what a classy son'bitch he was. I don't think there's a man who's ever seen this movie who can't see shades of himself in this role because I definitely sure did. I'm not married with children, but with every fight he was in I definitely had an understanding of what it's like to go to war with someone who's pretty much attempting to take food off your wife and children's plates...intense stuff.

In conclusion I feel like I cheated myself out of this amazing experience 3 years ago...and just thought I'd share that with you all.

SHIVER ME TIMBERS...

CINDERELLA MAN GETS A 9/10 FROM ME.

All of my friends have told me to watch this movie, but I always thought that it looked really slow and boring.

But, I might have to go give it a shot....

Cinderella Man is one of the movies I would definitely use to defend Ron Howard as a director. There is no way a bad director could ever get performances as good as that even if he hired the best actors in the business.

Even knowing the end result of the fight (I didn't) would still make it hardpressed to not be moved by the film in some way. Definitely fits the mold of "triumph of the will" pictures, but sometime a story well told can make a good film. Thomas Newman's score = brilliant.

Best movie of 2005 IMO. Infact, it was the only 4 star movie of that year. Although Munich came close.

Russell Crowe was robbed of an oscar. He was incredible in the movie. One of my favorite performances of his which is saying something because he's had a damn great career filled with many outstanding performances.

Probably my second favorite boxing movie after Rocky. And my favorite movie by Ron Howard. Fuck A Beautiful Mind. THIS is the movie he should won the oscar for.

Right on the mark. I can't believe Cinderella Man doesn't get more love. One of my favorite movies of this century.

Agreed, definintely underrated. I don't know a whole lot of people personally who gave this movie a chance. It's kind of sad.

It really is a well all-around made movie. Howard's directing, Crowe's and Giamatti's performances, and the story is irresistible. I have a soft spot for underdog movies and this is one of the best ones. Good sports movie, good boxing movie . . . good movie.
