I can't remember the last time a piece of movie-news surprised and excited me this much. Just when he made us think that he was indeed retiring from directing (supposedly to follow his pursuit in producing music), it seems as if Cameron Crowe has bounced right back on the ball, hopefully to make up for the debacle that was Elizabethtown.

There's no doubt in my mind that Crowe is one of the most gifted writer/directors out there today and has always been a huge personal favorite of mine (Almost Famous is easily in my top twenty of all time). In my humble opinion, he's the best the filmmaker since Wilder in terms of knowing how to deliver a true romantic comedy, after all, just look at the horde of memorable scenes and characters he has created over the past decade., With this new project of his with Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon, there's no doubt in my mind he'll bring us something fresh and exciting to the increasingly redundant genre (again, I think it would be best for all of us to just ignore Elizabethtown).

I will most definitely be keeping a close eye on this one.

Personally, I consider Vanilla Sky much more of a debacle than Elizabethtown (despite the miscast leads). I actually think the latter is a decent flick, though I've only seen it once.

All of his films are great, save for Elizabethtown. But Singles, Vanilla Sky, Say Anything and Almost Famous all get 10/10's from me.

I wish he could have gotten someone else besides Stiller. Im pretty excited just to hear the soundtrack listing.

True. Stiller is pretty much notrorious now for being in all of these very poor, mediocore romantic comedies lately (though he may just redeem himself with Tropic Thunder), but with Crowe leading the way I'm not too worried.

I'll see anything Crowe puts out, but the casting of Stiller has me concerned.

It's about friggin' time Crowe is making another movie! Can't wait.

IMO, he hasn't made a bad movie. I loved both Vanilla Sky and Elizabethtown.

My feelings have been reflected in this thread already:

Crowe is Amazing (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous and yes, even Vanilla Sky are among my favorite movies)

I'm pumped to see him return to filmmaking

Worried about Stiller (not that I don't think he's got talent - he just doesn't always use it)

And yes, THE SOUNDTRACK, no doubt it'll be great.

Consider my stoked.
