Hey everyone in DVD world! I just wanted to share this concern with all my fellow addicts outthere. For the last 2 weeks Best Buy has been running what at first seemed to be errors in their circulars but one manager actually stated that it's not an error it's just how they advertise. How do they advertise you ask? Well they have the right to place any cover art of a title regardless if it matches the type of edition it is,for instance this past week they placed cover art of Troy Director's Cut Ultimate edition in the circular but when you got to the store they stated no it's just the regular director's cut.Now wether this was intentional or an error they should honor the product and price that they are showing, that 's good business plain & simple. On a lighter note,if you do run into this problem call the Best Buy consumer relation line,1 888 237 8289 and they will offer you a gift card of the value of what you were looking for ,for the inconvienence.
So long folks hope this works out for you guys and if anyone has any other tips please feel free to post!!!

This happened to me too....I was pissed. Does anywhere else have it that price matches? I would love nothing more than to price match it, then call and get a 30 dollar gift card.

unfortunately, it's exclusive to best buy...tried it already!....dnt wry we will overcome...lol..glad you feel my pain!
Unfortunately painful for you as you have to undergo numerous tasks to get a gift card. Fortunate for the rests who just made things up upon calling the toll free number and getting away with $30.

you could just print screen the online ad... it specifically says on there when you enlarge that it's for the director's cut... cause a big fuss and boom, you'll get it for the price... hell depending on the place, you won't even have to cause a big fuss

yeah this exact thing happened to me not to terribly long ago.. they were advertising i think for spderman 3 it was, and if you bought it there you got 2 movies for 5 dollars each, one of the choices in the image was X2 and it was the steelbook. of course they refused to let me purchase the steelbook with it, refuting that the deal was for the 1 disc edition, regardless of the picture, so i said fuck it and just went to target to get the spidey 3 disc exclusive there. oh and for the record, i was just completing the trilogy, i hate the movie :)

I'm glad the post was able to bring some awareness to the devious deceptive tactics that some of these large chains use in order to lure DVD addicts like ourselves in! Also I would just like to correct the statement that the Troy Director's Cut Ultimate Edition is exclusive to Best Buy,I actually seen one in FYE today but unfortunately did not have my arsenal with me aka Best Buy circular,lol.....hope this helps somebody!!!!

I wondered about that. I have looked a lot of places, but most stores have it online only right now, which doesn't help on the price match. Does FYE price match? I only go in there (20-30 minutes to the closest one) when they have exclusive steelbooks.

I believe they do,but they actually only do it if the other store which your bringing the circular from has it in stock.

The same thing happened to me with the special edition of Tombstone. The ad only showed the edge of the dvd case, but you could CLEARLY tell that it was the light tan 2-disc edition, versus the darker brown regular edition.
The price in the ad was 8.99 for the 24.99 special edition DVD. NOT a normal sales drop by any means, and the customer service people knew it.
Regardless, they actually gave me the advertised price with absolutely NO argument about it.

here's a way to do a reverse bait and switch . find a dvd that's advertised at a lower price in another store , say a one disc of some film . bring the ad to best buy , bring the two disc version of that film to the counter , and ask them to price match the item . it normally only works when it's busy and they just can't be bothered . in essence you are getting a double discount . you're getting the price match for a more expensive version ;) .

I'm not trying to get free gift cards , i have no interest in going through all that trouble , i simply suggested finding an advertised dvd for cheaper than what Best Buy is selling it for , and presenting that ad , but try to see if you can get the two disc version for the price of the one disc that's being sold at the other store .
I did it with the Signal , it was advertised for 6 dollars less at another store , but it was for the one disc . So i brought the ad with me to BB , brought the two disc to the counter and asked for a price match , no worries , i got the two disc for the single disc price . It was the BB exclusive .

Hey Guys ,suffice to say that different Best Buy managers go about issues differently. With that being said I went to another Best Buy simply because I wanted to buy the Signal 2disc exclusive and sure enough I saw that blessed Troy staring at me.So I did what any other addict would have done and tried to get it at 6.99 again, this time being that I was dressed in a suit for work, they gave me less hassle and honored the 6.99 price point for the ultimate edition.Just goes to show you no retreat no surrender!!!!!!!!!
Also ,not sure if anyone noticed but they are advertising the Superbad 2 disc in the circular but in the store they only have the 1 disc,, actually got it price
matched at FYE for $12.99.....happy hunting!

A thread about scamming a company (Best Buy) to get cheaper DvDs is one thing....A thread including advice on how to scam a company out of $50.00+ worth of gift-cards is another. Joblo.com does NOT condone thievery (which essentially is what you're attempting to teach or instruct others to do). This thread is closed.
