the opening instrumental "life in technicolor" confuses me.....its incredibly muffled and sounds like it could be absolutely awesome if not for the decision to make it so.....i wonder why they did that.

I'm liking this album a lot. Eno proves once again why he's one of the best.

listened to about 8 tracks today, good. Had to get this knowing Eno produced it. It definitely has his ambient stamp on it, and I like that.

digggin the album.. no doubt about it. And I love the opening Life in Technicolor, about as much as I love the Lost? acoustic at the end of the album. Have no problem with either of them.. I love the way they decided to open it with an instruemental. Adds to the journey you'll experience when putting the cd on.

I still think A Rush of Blood to the Head is Coldplay's best album, but Viva La Vida is a really close second. It's an amazing piece of work, and showcases a new, experimental sound. "Life In Technicolor" (what an epic-sounding instrumental), "Viva La Vida", "Yes", and "Lost!" are some of my favorite tracks, but "42" is the highlight of the album -- it's like three songs in one, and it fucking rocks.

Viva La Vida takes the listener on an epic adventure.

Coldplay is like the rich, lame popular kid in school that everybody humors because they secretly feel sorry for them.

Really good cd. Of course, A Rush of Blood to the Head will always be my favorite, but Viva La Vida is fucking excellent. Cemeteries of London and 42 blow me away every time. Really good new direction.

The Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love, and Yes are the SHIT. Really loving this album. It is epic as hell.

I would rank them

Viva La Vida
A Rush of Blood to the Head
Parachutes
X&Y

Here's my track by track opinion of the album:

1. Life in Technicolor - Beautiful instrumental, and a wonderful choice to open the album.
2. Cemetaries of London - Meh
3. Lost! - I really dig the groove of this song.
4. 42 - The opening seems kind of bland, the middle is pretty good, but I find the ending a little corny... Not a fan of this tune.
5. Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love - The Lovers in Japan part is pretty good, but the Reign of Love part is beautiful.
6. Yes - No... I get nothing out of this song.
7. Viva la Vida - Very good, but it never really seems to get there. It needed a bigger cresendo to me.
8. Violet Hill - Good tune. Took a while for me to like it when I heard it on the radio, but now I do.
9. Strawberry Swing - Infectious. My favourite song on the album. Like Violet Hill, it took a while for me to appreciate, but now I can't get it out of my head.
10. Death and All his Friends - Pretty good closer. I like the way the ending is basically the same as the intro of the album, Life in Technicolor.

And here's how I'd rank 'em.

1. Strawberry Swing
2. Life in Technicolor
3. Lost!
4. Viva la Vida
5. Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love
6. Violet Hill
7. Death and All his Friends
8. 42
9. Cemetaries of London
10. Yes

Overall, I dig the album.
