These writers or executives or whoever comes up with these titles and stories need to get their source material correct... or start using some. Captain America was never the first Avenger, nor the second or even the third. He's more like the sixth, trailing Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, Ant-man, and the Hulk. Just because he is the leader doesn't mean he's the first. They were the ones who found him encased in a block of ice. The original story is iconic and a classic, so why would these writers stray from the source material. If Marvel is indeed in control of their movies then they should just do it right.

It is unfortunate, but you can't always get what you want.

Remember the Spider-Man web shooter fiasco?

I don't consider who is the first avenger to be a really important plot element from the comics anyway, and I'm avid reader of Marvel. If in the movies they want Captain America to be it's first member, so be it. It's really not an important plot point.

Comic continuity always gets tinkered with when it comes to movies.

Title doesn't bother me either...I don't care if they call him the first avenger or not...I just hope they do his character justice and not put out a crap movie like the last one.

I think they're following the Ultimate Avengers storyline instead of the classic Cap one. In Ultimate, the Avengers were formed around Captain America.

adiaz906 I was reading your post, and I had the same feeling initially when hearing the title, but if you want to get technical, he is the first avenger, his character was created way before anyone else, and when the avengers un-thawed him he was already alive for decades, technically making him the first Avenger.

This is probably what they are doing, Marvel has been borrowing from the their Ultimate universe alot in their movies (Fantastci 4 is the most i think) but that just makes sense sometimes since some of the stories back then are quite campy today and would be tough to translate i would think, which is part of the reason they created the Ulitmae universe to begin with.

Not that it really matters but not he wasn't the first Avenger simply cuase he was created as a character first. He was Cap then was frozen then the Avengers were fromed and then they eventually found him (i think it was like issue 4 or 6 or something) and offered him a spot on the team. Even before he was frozen there were no Avengers so i can't see how he would be the first.
