Too bad it'll be a double dip, but certainly worth it...!
MisterChristian
06-14-2008, 04:05 PM
Hardly call it a double-dip, since the original release was what, 1998/1999? Yeah technically it's the second DVD release for the film, but because it's been on DVD for a decade, I think of it more of an UPGRADE. And long overdue! :)
Blu-ray buy for me...

Well, it's a double dip for me because I already have it on DVD. Still, as I said, totally worth it. Can't wait to get my hands on this...!

this will be a rare upgrade for me. I can't wait to dump that original Warner DVD with the stupid cardboard snap-case!

This will be a definite purchase for me as well. One of my favorite movies of all time and a movie that was just screaming for a special edition.

Andrew Sarris wrote a famous essay from which the term "auteur theory" came from a few decades ago...we had to study it in film class...
But he should be a huge cut above the normal film critics today in what he has to say. Most film critics nowadays review films in very general terms rather than actually discussing them in-depth and analyzing them. He's more one of those critics who actually does a lot of analysis and I think I remember reading at one point that he and Pauline Kael were like arch-rival critics and a lot of people followed one or the other's school of thinking, etc so his commentary might actually turn out very interesting...
Oh and I love L.A. Confidential but I've refused to buy it for a long time because of the crappy snapper case (lol yeah I'm picky) and cause I thought a nice SE was gonna come out way before this...but yeah, this is gonna make me really happy. And a TV pilot with Kiefer Sutherland sounds like it'll be a wicked special feature :D

Somehow, I had a feeling this would finally come about. Looks like my birthday list got a little bit longer.
Tentative DVDs for that list:
LA Confidential Special Edition
Three Kings
Iron Man
In the Line of Fire
Road to Perdition (if I don't buy it beforehand)
Oh and to reiterate everyone else's opinion: ABOUT DAMN TIME!
