I am truly sorry if there is already a thread about this. I searched through the last few months and couldn't find one, but if it already exists, hopefully someone can point it out for me.
So I finally got a Blu-ray player over the weekend. I already had an HDTV. I want them to be the best they can be. Should I buy an HBMI or DVI cable, and if so, which one should I buy? I would appreciate some feedback. Thank you in advance.

If your TV can support HDMI, then get that. It provides not just a clear, crisp picture, but the cable is a LOT less smaller and unwieldy, and it plays audio.
The DVI is more for computer video cards playing onto a TV. But it can also do 1920x1080 resolution, so in the end when it comes to "best" video quality, it's negligible. Both work fine.

Thank you for the information. I have a new HDTV. Do most of them support HDMI? How can I find out and how much do they generally cost? Thanks again. I really appreciate it.

If you just got an HDTV, than its 99% likely going to have an HDMI output. Infact i don't think there are any HDTV's without them. They are really expensive at places like Best Buy, there are some sites online that are significantly less, i'll try to look some up...
Good to know. Thanks a lot.

infact, here is an article explaining that the sites editors could not tell the difference between HDMI cables that cost 300 dollars and ones that cost 13 dollar one.

here is a pretty cheap site that varies their prices by feet. If your tv is anywhere near your new blu-ray player a 15 ft cord should be plenty.

Forget paying a lot of money.

$1.88 for a good hdmi cable. I own two of these, and they are perfect. I have my PS3 connected to my one tv with one, and my Blu Ray player hooked to another tv. Perfect picture quality.
They changed the price, it was 2 cents this morning. Still, it is pretty cheap for an HDMI cable.

I am curious, why would you need a 15 ft cord for this? The player should be right next to the tv. The link I provided is 6 ft, and it is more than enough.

HDMI cables carry both audio and video feeds. Buy a better cable. The connections are really important and if not soddered right the cable will not work well. Cheap cables have a high rate of failure. Should not get a cable over 30 feet. If you need to get a inter connect with a signal boost like the one Key Digital makes.
DVI cables only carry a video feed, no audio. Some like to use DVI for projectors since most projectors don't have audio out and DVI is cheaper than HDMI. HDMI gets really expensive at long lenghts.
So get HDMI. Unless you are running it through your receiver and then you can go with DVI or HDMI.
