I, for one, and may be in the minority, is actually excited for the new Friday the 13th. I really love the TCM remake, they really showed what actually happened. (I'm joking). And I think Marcus Nispel could do really well with this one.
http://www.cine.se/bilder/jason_voorhees.jpg
I know that the original is one of the most important horror films of all time, but I think it could use a re what ever you want to say. I love to watch the movies just for fun. For laughs, but I think this one will have both. I really don't know what I'm trying to say, but I'll try to sum it up: The first one is pretty bad. For it's time it was great, but it needs to be updated.
i think I'm in the minority for sure. As long as Rob Zombie isn't making the remake, then I don't think it could be totally ruined.

Well, it's Jason. Of course I'm a bit excited. I enjoyed the Halloween remake (although it holds up very, very poorly on re-watches) so hopefully this one on first viewing will be just as enjoyable.

I was looking forward to the Halloween remake, cuz it's my favorite slasher. But then I forgot Rob Zombie isn't fit for it, but then it was too late. I found myself at an 11:30 showing having to sit in the front row

At least the new Friday the 13th movie might save the franchise thanks to its awful sequels like Friday the 13th part 8:Jason takes Manhattan, Jason goes to Hell:The final friday and Jason X. Freddy vs. Jason was o.k. but not teh ultimate shit! If it earns a hard R i'll see it.

I'm looking forward to this because the original Friday the 13th is one of the worst movies I've ever seen IMO. I also like the cast and the director did a decent job with the TCM remake.
I was always hoping that Jason would make an appearence on the tv show Supernatural. I guess, with Jared Padalecki starring in this movie, this will have to do. I guess this will be as close to seeing Jason squaring off with the Winchesters as I'm going to get.

Do you mean Friday the 13th 8: Jason goes to Manhattan for a bit? That pissed me off. I was expecting a bunch of kills in Manhattan. Not 25 Minutes of running.

A bit OT, but did you ever see the workprint Halloween?
I did, although I can't really remember it that well. I remember it had a completely unnecessary rape scene, opposed to the awesome theatrical hospital escape scene. I was disappointed when the DVD had the rape scene over the other escape scene. I also liked the theatrical ending more. Didn't leave room for more unnecessary sequels, although considering it was a box-office smash, we're pretty much bound for one anyway.

I`m looking forward to it. According to the filmmakers it`s basically like Parts 1-3 rolled into one movie with a body count in the double digits. Sounds good to me. I`m just happy that Jason is back (with a decent budget and production values this time)!

Yes Im not even gonna call this thing a remake, its close enough to a sequel the characters names are changed and I imagine so would be their deaths. I dont understand why they wouldnt just wanna do a sequel then Jason X could be the Halloween 3 of the series. (Just like it never happened)

I can't remember where but i remember reading that some death sceens will be the same but with little differences, I am well up for this movie !! Bring on the Jason !!
Now all we need is Ash to show up at the end of the movie and ensure the Freddy vs Jason vs Ash movie, which i think would cause me to have a shit fit if it ever happened.
I'm also a big fan of Supernatural and was also looking forward to seeing Jason vs the Winchesters but this will do!!

I love the Friday the 13th series. I watch them constantly. I am not upset about the remake. It's just a reality now.
I am concerned about who is making it. I don't trust Platinum Dunes. They have made nothing but shit on a stick so far. I am not too enthused about the director either. The TCM remake isn't a very good horror flick.

I am not too enthused about the director either. The TCM remake isn't a very good horror flick.
No, it isn`t. In fact it`s incredibly bland and generic.
But you know, I really don`t think it was Marcus Nispel`s fault. I think the problem is that the script was so mundane and by-the-numbers. I think Nispel did what he could - the movie *looked* fantastic, the performences weren`t bad, and it did have some good atmosphere.
This new "Friday" was written by the two guys who wrote "Freddy VS Jason", which is good news IMO. Say what you want about "FvJ" (personally I loved it), but you have to admit you could tell the writers loved both of the series, and at least it was FUN, it was inventive, and the characters were slightly more developed than in your typical slasher.
So to me, the combination of Nispel and the "FvJ" writers gives me hope.
MadsenOMC
06-19-2008, 12:03 PM
I agree that FvsJ is a fun movie. I enjoy it.
A lot of people seem to really like the look of the TCM remake, as well as Nispel's direction. I do not agree. I thought it had a forced, pseudo-dirty look. It almost looked too good, if that makes any sense.
NathanRomano
06-19-2008, 12:16 PM
I really hate Jason x and FvJ. They're not even fun to laugh at. Like I said, I'm in the minority, but I loved the TCM remake. i even enjoyed the Beginning. I really liked the look of TCm, and hopefully this will have the same one. Remember the awful trailer for the original Friday the 13th?

I'm a HUGE fan of the Friday the 13th series, I think a remake is just what the series needs (no joke, the series was trying really, REALLY hard by the time Jason Goes to Hell came about), AND I also think that Marcus Nispel is JUST the person to do Jason justice; Nispel did wonders for the insanely boring Texas Chainsaw Massacre with the remake and prequel. I don't give a fuck what anyone says - the original TCM was complete shit - great idea, but garbage movie - the remake is where it's at. I also think that all of these horror remakes (for the most-part) are surpassing the originals, not only in acting talent, but SFX, dialogue, story re-vamps, etc.
Anyway, the long and short of it is: I can't fucking wait for the Ft13 remake.
chinton
06-19-2008, 02:15 PM
The original is kind of cheap and forgettable. I dont see how this can be anything but an improvement. Or maybe it will be expensive looking and forgettable.
Grand_Marquis
06-19-2008, 05:14 PM
Probably the latter, but it's worth a shot. Like people have said, the original was good for its time, but it just does NOT hold up all these years later. Same with Nightmare on Elm Street. I know there are lots of people who swear by that film, and the concept is as solid now as it was then, yes - but damn it, it aged terribly. Really painfully terribly.
These things need remakes, if only to validate their stories as something worthy of our attention. There's relevance to these films, but their age and their bad sequels have turned them into generally-ignored sideshows. It's true that there's a good chance the attempt will fail, but we've gotta try. Otherwise they'll get relegated to boring film classes, alongside "The Cabinet of Dr. Calligari"
Frank the Tank
06-19-2008, 11:49 PM
I know remakes and reimaginings are the devil and stuff, but I'm still really excited for this. There isn't much to a Jason movie besides some cool deaths and some fun nudity combined with some hilarious moments of bad acting. Hopefully, they don't screw up the formula, as it should be really hard to do. They got one scary motherfucker to play Jason and the actor they got to play child Jason has a creepy look as well. Marcus Nispel showed a lot of talent with the TCM remake and had a really different and creative look for that film (A fairytale gone wrong maybe?). TCM remake was solid, but not a great and had a lot of flaws (Aside from Ermey and Leatherface, the family sucked ass and was bland as hell, as well as a few moments of bad acting and screenwriting.). Still, I thought it had some great gore, R. Lee Ermey was amazing, the opening sequence was pretty intense, Leatherface was pretty bad ass here and Jessica Biel running around in the rain in a white tanktop is always good to have. I wonder what he can cook up with this one.
Besides, I thought the original Friday The 13th was kind of dull and was one of the weaker of the series along with Jason Takes Manhattan and Jason X. Hell, I prefer the much hated Friday The 13th Part 5 and Jason Goes To Hell over the original.

How different is the work-print from the Unrated DVD? Cause the unrated version was the only one I saw and I hated it.
I have some faith in this, simply because the series went on for too long and lead to nothing great and it would be nice to see Jason return to Camp Cyrstal Lake in the essence of the first 4 movies. Crispin Glover's death was my favorit.
BTW, I hated Jason's look in Freddy vs Jason. His head was too small.

I don't really give much of a shit about this. Friday the 13th has always been a pretty lame series to me, the weakest of the big 3 or 4 out there, so I'm all for any kind of re-imagining they feel like doing. Maybe they'll actually make a halfway-decent movie this time around.
That pic looks pretty cool though.

I've made up my mind on this Friday re[whatever it consider's itself], and I'm not opposed to it anymore. In all honest, it couldn't possibly be as bad as at least half of the entries in the franchise. Although I haven't seen all of them, Jason Goes to Hell and Friday the 13th: Part 5 make up two spots on my "Worst Movies Ever" list. This upcoming film couldn't be all that bad for the series- in fact, it my be one of the more decent entries.
Evil Ed

I'm going to see it because it's a Friday film.
BUT
I hate that stupid jacket, why can't he be wearing a flannel like in part 2?
His neck looks like he is on horse roids, the best looking model of Jason is in part 3, this is the one they should've modeled him after.
Why does he have holster for his machete? Does he have a whip on the other side?

Seriously? How is that important? Are blondes somehow less scary? The man is a bloody mutant, who cares about the pigmentation in the few strands of hair the monster has left.

Now, i HATE HATE remakes but 1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) was unbelievable and had me scared and was on par with the original imo. Now the 80's Friday the 13th was ok for that generation and what not but it wasnt THAT scary, just boring as hell with NOT ENOUGH scares. Now watching the trailer, i believe the remake will surpass the original. IT looks amazing, Jason looks BADASS (and if he IS running, GOOD, looks scary as he starts off slow towards her THEN chases after her. I LOVE IT)
Im looking forward to this no doubt!!!

I thought "The Final Chapter" (... which is actually part 4,) was rather intense. It wasn't exactly scary, but it's much more serious and suspenseful than the entries that followed.

Jeez, this series is so much fun to watch with a couple of friends. Bad Acting, Cheesy Dialog, bad ass kills, what's not to love?

Well, I hope you all forgive me if I'm a little late jumping on this bandwagon... I'm not sure if this has been posted yet (it's new to me)
The trailer for Friday the 13th at Apple:

I think it looks pretty badass... but then again I'm a big fan of Bay and Nispel, loved TCM remake. And I think that last shot of him running at the girl is AWESOME!
Again, sorry if this is old news.

I'm not a big fan of Nispel or Bay but I did really like the TCM remake. Was it better than the original? Fuck no but it still damn good.
I don't care what they are calling this. Jason is coming back to the big screen and I couldn't be more happy.
Long live F13TH!!!

I thought Part 3 had a scary moment with crazy hillbilly excited Jason looking at the final girl in the window before the stupid jump scare.

Agreed there Frank. I remember renting this as a kid and being scared shitless at that scene.
Anyways, I'm there regardless. Its a series i grew up with and enjoyed, and excited to see what they do with it.

I like the original teaser more, just because it didn't show everything i suppose. But the final poster could have been much worse i guess.
Half an hour more.

I love the poster it complements Jason's new appearance while also conveying the new direction they're taking the series in.

I do not get the hype for this at all. Looks like a steaming POS cash-grab if you ask me. bay, Nispel, platinum dunes-they all suck big meaty cocks with everything they do. Why would this be any different?
I proudly declare: F*ck this movie in the arse!! I hope it bombs at the box-office.

trailer feels identical to The Texas Chainsaw remake. The director seems to be making the same film with just a different killer. I'm sure some people won't have a problem with it.

That trailer kicked all kinds of ass! Can't wait to see it.
I can't believe I'm actually excited about a friggin' Friday the 13th flick. But I guess this is what happens when an actual filmmaker does one of these movies. Unlike most of the previous movies this one will actually be very well made and well acted. Heck, watching this trailer I can tell the cinematography is great.
And eh, I don't see too much similarity between this and the TCM remake trailer.

This looks like every other teen slasher movie these days, especially when compared to the texas chainsaw movies. Nispel and Michael Bay are too talented and professional for Friday. Why are they spending their time on it?
Leave these movies to the "low budget" dregs where up and coming directors/actors can hone their skills and try to get noticed. That's what used to be so great about these slasher flicks. The actors in this movie seem new, which is great, but why is everything else so professional?
Get some better material guys. I want to see a different movie from Nispel.

Have you ever seen a Jason movie after Friday the 13th Part 3? Because it seems obvious that you haven't because that preview looks better than the other garbage that made Jason seem more like a joke. Especially Jason X and Jason Goes To Hell.

So Nispel is too talented at making a horror film? I thought if a director is an artist of a specific genre than they should try to expand in it. Or would you rather have the director of Saw 2-4 come in and shit all over the Jason series? I don't understand why people have bad views on this film, when it pretty much looks like their staying true to the original roots of the originals.

This looks absolutely terrible. I'm a huge fan of entries 1-8 and Freddy v.s. Jason, but this looks like it may surpass even Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X as the worst entry in the series.
The TCM remake wasn't half bad and I was even a little excited at the idea of a new Jason film, but this trailer actually made me furious. It's awful.

Man that LOOKS AWESOME!
I've been watching the TV show Supernatural lately, just really got into it all of a sudden, and now seeing that Jensen Ackles plays a role in this movie, and a role of someone who won't die in 10 seconds (guy looking for his sister) has me even more excited. His role reminds me so much of Rob (?) from F13 part 4, except maybe Jensen won't go down like a beyotch! Ackles plays a great character in Supernatural, he is a legitimate actor and should bring some emotion to role. I noticed he is top billed at IMDB.
The sack mask is in it too!

I don't know... for some reason I'm not as jazzed up as you guys are about it. It doesn't look bad, per se, but it doesn't look particularly good and/or fun either (at least to me). However, I do like that they are taking Jason in the more serious direction of Parts 2-4.

Wrong Winchester brother. That's Jared Padalecki, Not Ackles. Though Ackles does have a horror flick coming out next month. The My Bloody Valentine remake.

Well whatever his name is, Sammy is way cooler than Dean in my opinion, and I'd much prefer to see this than 3D Bloody Valentine.
Dean's cool too. He's just no Sammy.

I disagree. Sam is cool and everything but Dean is a real badass. Ackles is probably the most underrated actor on television. Even though Sam has the special powers, he's still only half as cool as his older brother.
I agree that I'm looking forward to this more though. The trailer for My Bloody Valentine made it look horrendous.

The new trailer showed some promise, but again I'm very anti-remake. However, the new Jason looks as dark and menacing as the original Jason in parts 2-4. Maybe there is hope after all.

I specified slasher, not horror. That sounds like a whiny thing to point out, but I don't want to come off like I'm making fun of Horror itself.
I'm less shitting all over the genre than I am pointing out that what used to be so great about these types of movies (random murderer slaughters teens) in the 70s and 80s is that so many of them were low budget affairs where still practicing directors, actors, and crews could hone their skills on their way to something better. It was their way to get noticed, and in that capacity the movies were really really cool. Almost in the same way garage bands are cool.
But these days the crews working on them are already-noticed and skilled professionals. And to me it's like hearing a pro recording artist belting out lyrics from a garage band.
These types of movies don't need this kind of professional touch to them. Although I liked the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (the first, not the second), I'm disappointed that Hollywood is messing around with something they shouldn't really be messing around with. Does that make any sense? You don't need all this stuff to make a good Friday movie. It's almost like overkill.

Well I still have my reservations, but any F13th remake intelligent enough to reference the "counting deaths" trailer can ONLY get me pumped up.

Yes I have seen all of the Friday films, and they are amazing in all their cheezy glory. No need for platinum dunes to remake all my favorite old-school slasher films and puss them out. Texas Chainsaw Massacre for example, was one of the best Horror films ever released, a man wears people's flesh and runs around with a chainsaw-awesome!! Then it gets remade: a man has a skin-disease so he wears people's flesh. Starring: Jessica Biel. F*ckin' pussy-film man. :p
(If the above sounded familiar to y'all, I posted it in my Pg-13 Horror thread in one post.)
Not only that, but they remade The Hitcher, (I re-titled the remake as The Bitcher, the TCM remake I re-titled Texas Chainsaw Manicure. :p) and now they are remaking ANOES, The Birds, Rosemary's Baby, and probably 8 more flicks I don't even know about! To remake a dead franchise that is outdated and no longer a piece of pop-culture is one thing, but to remake very alive Horror films that hold-up better than most of today's films: That's just wrong.

This looks to be pretty damn awesome and a return to form for Jason.
FREDDY VRS JASON was a kick-ass flick and one of the most "fun" movies i saw the year it came out, rekindling my love for everyones favorite camp killer, but other then that its been along time since ive been excited to see Jason on the big screen.
I also thought the TCM remake kicked the living shit out of the over-rated original. I really have high hopes for this.
It wont be worse then what they did to my beloved HALLOWEEN franchise. THAT was a fucked up remake.
