View Full Version : Alligator II: The Mutation
This is a movie that's taken a fairly big ass-raping by fans of the original. Maybe it's just because I watched this and the original a LOT when I was about 8 and 9 years old, but still, I think this movie is damn entertaining. It's certainly not the worst film about a killer gator/crocodile out there (check out the Thailand CROCODILE from 81 for that). The fake alligator looks pretty cool, it's too bad they didn't use it more. What gore we do get is pretty cool, and I love the synth score. So, does anyone else out there like this movie?
I'm glad someone posted about this :) Alligator is one of my favorite flicks. Unfortunately, Alligator II didn't come out on DVD like it did in the UK, so I recently got a VHS copy as I hadn't seen it since it came out when I was a kid. I actually liked it better now than back then because when I was a kid, I was expecting it to be as good as the first. This time around, I set my expectations low and was pleasantly surprised (also, did anyone here notice Kane Hodder's small part?).

Sorry fellas, but Alligator II, in my humble opinion, was AWFUL!!!! Left a bad taste in my mouth, especially considering it followed the flawed, yet entertaining first one. The effects were horrible, and acting from all that were involved was embarassing (what the hell was Dee Wallace Stone thinking, my has her career ever been in the toilet after this stinker,) also the entire movie seemed to rip off Jaws, especially the end. I say skip this one and stick to the original.
ALLIGATOR II seems to get a fairly mixed reception, like a 50/50. Yeah Dolf, wasn't Kane one of the hunters in the sewer? The carnival scene and the end doesn't by any means hold a candle to the wedding massacre in the first one (still one of the greatest scenes EVER), but I still think it's pretty cool. I love the alligator chases a clown on a unicycle, if you notice. Ha ha. One of my favorite things about it was Richard Lynch's performance, I thought he did really well. I was sad to see him die. The only thing really disappointing about this one was the ending. In the original, it was fairly dramtic and suspenseful before the big explosion, here it's "There it is!" and BLAST! The explosion is cool, but it's not a very dramatic way to end it. Oh well, I still like it. I'd also like to note that I have a copy of the RCA/New Line VHS of this, but still for the life of me I can not find the original! And after it's been out on DVD in the U.S. for a year! I have the Catalina print on DVD-R, thank God... which is evidently a rare print. It's the only version I've seen besides the TV version.

I haven't seen the second for ages (own the original and LOVED that one), so I can't review it, but I do remember just thinking it was alright. I want to see it again, if not just for Dee Wallace Stone.

Dee Wallace Stone?Kane Hodder?Giant Alligator chasing a clown on a unicycle?:D
I will find this film.
Check any Hollywood Video. I am convinced that every Hollywood Video has at least one copy of Alligator 2. Unless they sold it in that big VHS blowout they had a few years ago.
