Millar is already knee-deep in his next movie adaptation, a live-action version of he and John Romita, Jr.'s Icon series "Kick-Ass" which is heavily rumored to be co-written and directed by "Stardust's" Matthew Vaughn.
"I'm working as a producer on ['Kick-Ass'] as well, so I've been involved for about eight months, believe it or not," the writer said. "The comic didn't come out until February, but we made the deal on the movie back in December. The script was finished six months ago, and it starts filming on location in New York in August. So it's moving really fast."
In terms of the talent involved, Millar played coy, but did note that all the pieces had fallen into place to make "Kick-Ass" er...kick-ass. "The casting's all been done, and everything's all in line now with that. There's two big names attached, which I can't mention so we can get on the cover of 'Variety.' And now we've got everyone. The kids who show up at the end of issue #3 - we just cast the girl, and that was a really tricky one because we needed to find someone who could do martial arts stuff. So the whole movie's ready to role."
should be interesting to say the least wonder who he has casted

don't know the comics, but judging the footage i think it doesn't look too impressive. i'll reserve judgment until more comes. The whole superhero deconstruction thing seems to be the new cinematic trend, unfortunately the footage doesn't achieve anything innovative, funny or interesting outside the bit where Cage shoots the girl.
When the girl killed those people at the end, it all just seemed annoying. little white girl and geeky high school kid kill and beat the shit out of scary black gangsters. Of course the comic-con crowd loved it.

From The Hollywood Reporter:
Matthew Vaughn and 'Kick-Ass' try to do same
By Steven Zeitchik and Borys Kit
Two weeks after promo footage unspooled at Comic-Con, "Kick-Ass," the Matthew Vaughn comic-book adaptation about an everyday teen who becomes a superhero, is closing in on a buyer.
Lionsgate, Paramount and Universal are in the running for the pic, which Vaughn financed independently after some studios found the project’s violence too graphic and some of its dialogue too profanity-laced and opted not to board it at the script stage.
But the Comic-Con event garnered a hugely warm response from the fan universe, which has in turn helped convince the companies to reconsider. Buyer screenings followed the week after Comic-Con, and several studios began circling the pic.
Studios interested in "Kick-Ass" see a Vaughn pickup, even at a price in the solid seven figures and with a significant P&A commitment, as a way to plug a franchise-level property into their slate with comparatively little financial risk or production headaches.
Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson and Chloe Moretz star in the pic, which Vaughn, the director of movies like "Stardust” and "Layer Cake," penned with writing partner Jane Goldman.
Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. wrote the comic book on which “Kick-Ass” is based. Both the comic and movie center on a high-school dweeb (Johnson) who attempts to reinvent himself as a real-world costumed superhero despite not being athletic or coordinated — and who then runs into real villains with real weapons. A colorful pre-adolescent girl who is adept at slicing and dicing villains is also featured.
Vaughn and his Marv Films had a deal with Sony Pictures, but the studio and filmmaker couldn’t see eye-to-eye on “Kick-Ass” on issues like the age of the protagonists; Sony, for instance, wanted Vaughn to turn the girl into an older teenager. Vaughn then decided to go the self- and indie-financing route.
The production backstory of “Kick-Ass” is part of a trend of bigger-budgeted commercial movies opting to go outside the system as studios become more selective about what they make. “There has never been a better time for independent financiers to access commercial material in the $25 million-$30 million range, because the studios just aren’t financing as many of these kinds of projects,” said one agent involved in the film-financing world.
Another such project comes in the form of the James Cameron-produced “Sanctum.” Despite a very commercial premise and a pic that will play in 3D, the deep-sea diving adventure is moving forward as a an indie and aims to land a distributor after it’s made.
Still, going indie with a commercial or genre project is not always a straightforward play. “The Rebound,” the Film Department’s Catherine Zeta-Jones romantic comedy, is perceived as having a large amount of commercial potential. But it has not yet sold to a distributor several months after first screening, as producers wait for financing for a P&A slate to come together.

I thought the teaser was great, especially the opening bit from the first issue, but I HATE the kid playing Kick-Ass. He looks nothing like the character and the way he's playing him is nothing like how I imagined him. However, it isn't enough to sway me from seeing it...

I've never heard of the comics. I have mixed thoughts on this as the kid playing Kick Ass already annoys the shit out of me in the trailers, but the red band trailer was awesome and hilarious (That didn't feature Kick Ass at all and focused on Hit Girl.) Nicholas Cage and the little girl playing Hit Girl look like they are going to be great in this though.

Yeah, a young girl assassin super hero. Wow, what can be more unsettling or interesting? Plus, the rest of the super hero characters within this are pretty darn interesting, too. However, what really sold me on this movie was the Comic Con Clip (located below), though.
I mean, the first time I seen it, I was a bit stunned and a little disturbed, actually.

I agree. Kick Ass is on my top list of must see movies in 2010, as well.
Along with Iron Man 2, Predators, The Losers, Jonah Hex, Resident Evil 4, Chronicles of Narnia 3, Tron, Green Hornet, and yes believe it or not... Piranha 3D, too.
Anyways, I am excited to see this flick. In fact, here is the final movie poster for the film. Which looks pretty darn amazing, if you ask me.

I'm loving the way this movie is looking. This is the first movie from Cage I've wanted to see in years, and Chloe Moretz is adorable.
I love the comics but Millar is a bit of a homophobe and tends to also play stereotypes in favor of the story.
Either way, this looks to be a great movie.

Can't wait for this one. Even though I was a bigger fan of The Losers comic (also adapted to film and being released in April), Kick-Ass is directed by Mathew Vaughn, who made one of my fav films of all time in Layer Cake, so I'm certain his foray into the superhero genre will be equally awesome, especially based on a comic written by one of the dopest (and also my personal fav) comic writers of our generation, Mark Millar (Wanted, Superman: Red Son, The Ultimates).
Anyway, I'm lookin' to cop the full graphic novel online and finally finish it before the film drops...

I saw this sucker last monday. I didn't have a chance to write because I was exhausted and had to leave town the next day. I had a really fun time with this flick.
It took some little comic sensibilities from movies like Spider-Man and Batman, and our own real world ones (Like rising to fame via YouTube) and made it work alongside some pretty brutal violence on display. The film also has a balancing act, standing between it's campiness and the seriousness of the situations on hand. With the exception of a few of moments, it holds up really well in staying in line between the two, never becoming too heavy handed or too campy. The story worked well for me with the exception of when the film pauses for a few minutes to give a backstory to a certain character in a pretty haphazard fashion. The film even works to defy your expectations in a few key moments, for the better, that work in context of the film.
While most people will be talking about Chloe Moretz's Hit Girl (and justifiably so), I ended up really enjoy Nic Cage in this film, essentially channeling his inner Adam West anytime when he's out fighting as Big Daddy. Ditto for Mark Strong as yet another villain, who did a great job as a corrupt New York Kingpin. Aaron Johnson and Christopher Mintz-Plasse were simply good in their roles but didn't fully stand out to men, compared to the previously mentioned 3.
While it's not perfect by any means, I really enjoyed Kick-Ass as a whole. If there's something to compare it to, it reminded me of a superhero spin on Wanted, except much more refined, less absurd and ultimately, just flat out better than that film.

I attended a preview screening this evening and I can quite honestly say that I can't recall a more fun and engrossing theatre experience.
Christopher Mintz Plasse and Aaron Johnson opened up the show with a very light-hearted and humorous Q&A. Christopher cracked quite a few funnies and then both the guys left to get something to eat as they had been traveling around the North West of England promoting the film all day. Their appearance was an unexpected and very entertaining treat.
Kick-Ass was completely engrossing from the get-go. The jokes are genuinely funny and good-spirited and the acting is great across the board. Aaron Johnson really shines as the title character and Nicholas Cage hams it up to perfection one again...yet this time he manages to remain absolutely human and hilarious at the appropriate moments.
I personally feel that Superhero movies have been done to death of late. But Kick-Ass manages to breathe new life into the genre, come at it from a different angle and create believable, likable comedic action heroes.
The action is great. There's a scene in which the public are led to believe that Kick-Ass will be unmasked live on the internet. It's perfectly conceived and the action sequences that follow are jaw-droppingly fun and frenzied.
The movie is also the perfect length and paced exactly right. It's just a hugely enjoyable flick IMO.
10/10 for sheer entertainment factor...I'm absolutely fucking serious.
I'll try to string a coherent review together when I've had some sleep.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this. Cage hammed it up but if fit the spirit of the film so damn well.
The only part that really bugged me was when
The movie stops and goes into the comic book Big Daddy is drawing up in order to give a backstory to the situation involving Frank, Big Daddy and his old cop friend.

I can see your issue with that. I suppose it was kind of clumsy and somewhat uncreative. I personally didn't have a problem with the scene as it served a purpose and I thought it looked quite pretty.

Yeah, I definitely think it looks good, but these reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Not just the ones on here, but also all over the net. And the general consensus is that people are going in knowing it's been hyped up and are expecting to be at least slightly disappointed, but it ends up being better than the hype is claiming.

The trailers don't really do the action in the film justice, it's similar too- but better than IMHO- the action in the recent Quentin Tarantino films.
It tries too hard to set up a sequel at the end, however apart from that it was pretty much perfect. It did remind me of the first time I watched Fight Club and the first time I watched Battle Royale. I'm probably going to go see it again on wednesday, and I'm looking forward to that, and I only watched it yesterday. Awesome, awesome movie.

I can see this too. I wasn't jumping for joy after the trailers, it came across as something desperate for controversy and I was worried that would overshadow the brilliance of the comics. But, yeah, I was wrong.
Really enjoyed the movie, there isn't a dull moment although like all films it has its flaws. Shutter Island aside, my favourite film of 2010 so far. I'm glad all the reviews up to now have been positive, this deserves all the praise it gets and hopefully it'll smash the box office as well.
