Kung Fu Panda Sequel in the Works

An interesting post was made on the TAG Blog:

Every building of the DW campus is bursting with activity. Monsters and Aliens, Shrek, Madagascar Deux, and on and on. DreamWorks' Lakeside Building is getting enlarged, and the administrative staff is gone from the upper floors.

But down on the lower levels, artists are working. A story crew has started early work in Kung Fu Panda, the Sequel, even while animators are hand-drawing new material for the DVD of Kung Fu Panda, the original.

It's not surprising considering the DreamWorks Animated hit has made about $230 million in 19 days of release worldwide. The film cost about $130 million to make.

This has me wondering how come we haven't gotten a sequel to Shark Tale. Didn't that do pretty good at the box office?

Shark Tale brought in a grand total of $367,275,019, domestic and foreign..

Kung Fu Panda is upto $232,542,519 domestic and foreign, so far.

Shark Tale was pretty well critically panned at a 34% (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/shark_tale/).

Kung Fu Panda, has been deemed a critical success at 88% (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/kung_fu_panda/).

As far as getting a sequel.. it doesn't surprise me at all to be honest.

I saw it within the first week of it's release and absolutely loved it. I will gladly see the sequel.

Adored the first one; might catch it again this week. And yeah, it had 'franchise' movie written all over it, so I was just waiting for a confirmation. Movie's totally awesome; hopefully the sequel will have the same talent behind it.

And please focus more on the Five. They were fucking amazing, but totally underused.

Im actualy hoping they have to rescue Po in the next one or something to give them more screen time.

I saw this yesterday, it just came out in Australia, and I loved it. But I just dont think a sequel will be that good. I mean for me the best part of the first one was Po's transformation, it was the basis of the whole plot and what made the movie interesting and what set up the comedy.

Now that he is the Dragon Warrior and a kung fu master I just dont see the sequel being as funny at his expense.

Im sure they will work it out though, and I knew they set it up for a sequel with that "syke" moment towards the end if you know what I mean without my giving the end away.
