all from digitalbits.com:

Apparently driven by the success of last year's Blade Runner and Harry Potter box sets, Warner has just revealed a number of new DVD and Blu-ray Disc box sets due later this year (both from Warner and also HBO). As it happens, we've got some early details for you, as well as an exclusive first look at the packaging and artwork for nearly all of them. Street dates and exact specs aren't yet available, but here's a sneak peek at some of what's planned for release in the fourth quarter of this year (official announcements will follow in the weeks ahead)...

First up is The Peanuts Holiday Collection on DVD, which will contain A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving: Deluxe Edition, A Charlie Brown Christmas: Deluxe Edition and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: Deluxe Edition, along with a CD of songs from the original soundtrack by Vince Guaraldi.

Next, The Clique is a film based on the bestselling book series by Lisi Harrison, and it's currently planned for release on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

HBO is releasing The Wire: The Complete Series as a 23-disc DVD box set, including all the previous extras along with a never-before-seen gag reel.

Now we get to the pictures...

We mentioned this the other day, but HBO's The Sopranos: The Complete Series will be a 33-disc DVD box set with special packaging and some 3.5 hours of all new bonus content exclusive to the set.

HBO's Deadwood: The Complete Series box set will feature 18 DVD discs, with all the previous extras, along with an exclusive bonus disc containing 2 hours worth of new material.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits2.jpg

Also coming in time for the holidays from HBO, just as we anticipated, is the Band of Brothers mini-series on Blu-ray Disc. All of the previous DVD extras will be included, along with new bonus content exclusive to high-def. The new extras will include In the Words of Easy Company, a dynamic, optional picture-in-picture commentary by the surviving Easy Company veterans, and In the Field with the Men of Easy Company, an interactive field guide charting a path from the storming of the beaches on D-Day to the assault on Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits3.jpg

Next up, from Warner, is The Flintstones: The Complete Series, which will include all six seasons on DVD plus extras (24 discs in all) in special packaging with a lenticular hologram.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits4.jpg

Batman: The Complete Animated Series on DVD will include all four seasons plus extras (16 discs) in special packaging along with new bonus material exclusive to this set (TBA).
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits5.jpg

On the live action front, just in time for the Presidential election, Warner will deliver a 3-disc JFK: Ultimate Collector's Edition on DVD, including special packaging, 3 hours of bonus content and collectible memorabilia, as well as an all new documentary, The Kennedy's: America's Emerald Kings. This title will also be available on Blu-ray Disc format in Digibook packaging.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits6.jpg

A Casablanca: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set is also coming to both DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Both will include 40 minutes of new special features, 2 feature-length commentaries, branded travel-related premiums, a photo book, and much more.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits7.jpg

As for more recent live action fare, an I Am Legend: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set will be available on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and will include an alternate version of the film with the "controversial ending," all-new special features such as a new filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes, "iconic" premium collectible items and more.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits8.jpg

Also, a 300: Limited Collector's Edition box set will be available this fall on DVD only, as a special box set including all the previous DVD extras along with two new documentaries (Recreating the Spartan Era and 300: Legend Filtered Through History, Graphic Novel and Film), as well as other exclusive memorabilia (a lenticular hologram, artwork cards and more). The reason it's DVD only? The studio tells us that a much more elaborate Blu-ray Disc version is coming in 2009, complete with new BD-Live and Bonus View content.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits9.jpg

Finally, the A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition will soon be announced, set to include the previous 2-disc DVD special edition along with exclusive premiums only available in the set. We're waiting to hear if any new disc-based content will be included, but we do know that this will also be released on Blu-ray Disc format.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits10.jpg

FYI, also on the way to stores this fall is HBO's Get Smart: The Complete Series and Warner's The Man from U.N.C.L.E.: The Complete Series (the latter has already been announced for release on 10/21). Both will be the same discs and packaging that were previously available exclusively online from TimeLife.

Again, all of these titles are expected to be officially announced in the next few weeks, so we'll post more specific details as they become available.

I seriously wish home video branches would adopt a "do it once, do it right" policy with DVD releases, but oh well...

The Batman: TAS set is a definite pickup. If the I Am Legend extras are worth it, I might ditch my old 2-disc steelbook. I'll skip 300; own it, love it, don't need to buy it again.

its official. I'm never buying a single season DVD again. I have 2 seasons of the Wire, three of The Sopranos, on of Batman:tas one of Deadwood and i also have the 2-disc JFK, the 2-disc Casablanca and BoB.

I just buttfucked in the double dipping department.

i just know if i man up and buy the whole wire they'll announce a whole series blu-ray release....

oh well, its very cool anyway.

what a piece of shit blu-ray box set of band of brothers. That' just the original with a blue tape around it and a blu-ray logo sticker. Fuck that. I wouldn't be suprised if I opened it up and inside it was the standard dvds

Casablanca 3-disc is probably the only one I'm for sure buying. I like the Sopranos and have yet to buy any seasons, but the SRP is ridiculously high for me.

just looking back at the "Ultiamte versions" of bonnie and clyde, forbidden planet, rio bravo, the troy ultimate box set.......probably between $34-49.99 (for the film box sets)

the complete tv series will no doubt be higher, but you never know...

and to answer someone else, yeah the sopranos srp is pretty nuts, but (im hoping) bestbuy, circuit city, costco will hopfully have it for 249-300...or less hopefully

The packaging was brilliant to begin with, and HBO knows that. Don't change something that works so well the first time. I'm so happy they kept the same packaging for the Blu-ray release.

I'd hold off until the inevitable Blu-ray release if I were you. I suspect it'll be released a few months after the standard DVD's box set is out for purchasing. It'll save you from triple dipping.

BUT I WANT BATMAN. Looks awesome.

06-28-2008, 01:30 AM
While all of those sets look really sweet, the only one I will probably buy is Batman. Deadwood and The Wire would have been tempting if I didn't already have the seasons. I am Legend and 300 would have been temping if I didn't already have a steelbook of IAL and a display box from Best Buy for 300.

Pirate Mike
06-28-2008, 07:52 AM
Wow this shit is impressive! I just wish studios would do this shit right the first time. I spent more for the Best Buy 300 and as cool as this new set will be I won't be upgrading any time soon as much as I want to.

I already have 5 & 4 seasons of Sopranos & Flintstones I'd like them all in one big set but I just don't have that kind of money.

I could see me double dipping for JFK, that looks special.

The Sopranos box set is priced at $399.99, which I'm sure will be discounted by a decent amount when it's released.

I already own editions of Casablanca and 300; though I might upgrade the first - my edition of Casablanca's getting a tad old.

And even though I've only seen one episode of "The Sopranos" (on a visit to my sister's), that set looks might tempting . . . maybe I'll ask for it for Christmas.

Double-Oh-Zero
06-28-2008, 02:12 PM
Definitely getting the Christmas Story set, since I've been meaning to pick up the S.E for years, and the Batman one might be a nice way to revisit the series (haven't seen it since I was 7 or 8). Not sure if I like JFK or I Am Legend enough to shell out for those, but...

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o120/bubutthead/digitalbits7.jpg

...Holy Christ. Tempting, this is. Christmas gift, perhaps.

Deadwood, however...Is MINE!!! That shit looks fucking awesome.

BATMAN: TAS set is mine.

Wow...I was so close to buying the first two seasons of The Wire because they were discounted at 30$ on Amazon but I am happy i saw this now.

Definitely getting myself the Complete Series of that show for Christmas, hopefully it won't be ridiculous. I don't own Blu-ray dvd yet and with all the other gagdetry i need it doesn't look like i'll be getting one soon so there won't be any double dipping from me.

Everything else looks very nice, but all are passable. If i had the means i would fork out the cash for the other two HBO shows but ....no.

Batman The Animated Series set. That's all I want!!

And if I can afford anymore super sets, I'd go for Deadwood. Been really curious about it and heard lots of great things. And I love westerns. I'd like to give that show a blind buy.

Glad I never snagged the 2 disk JFK, cause that 3 disk is tits! And the Blu-Ray BoB will kick ass. Best mini-series ever.

I've already got Volume 1 of Batman TAS but I think I just might have to get that. Nice looking sets, might also get 300.

06-30-2008, 11:48 PM
Casablanca, Christmas Story, Batman, and possibly JFK for me. I already have the 30 2 disc and there's not much in the way of special features so I doubt a third disc will make it better.
