Why the hell do director's feel the need to put animal abuse in movies? And why has there been in so many movies lately?

HOLY SHIT!! THERE'S SPOILERS BELOW! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
Funny Games U.S. - The dog gets beaten to death
The Incredible Hulk - The dog gets shot
The Invasion - A dog gets its neck cracked and a little boy trys to kill a dog
OH THANK GOD THE SPOILERS END HERE

I don't have a problem with animal abuse unless I know for a fact its real. And why the hell do they always aim for dogs? Is anyone else sick of this shit?!

I don't think a dog getting shot in the Incredible Hulk is such a big deal to put spoiler tags around it. I mean... C'mon. Maybe if Bruce Banner died at the very end of the movie and you said something, then yeah I would get pissed if you spoiled it.

I really want to know if someone would be angered by reading spoilers about a fucking animal dying. I would understand if it was a movie where animals were the main characters or something but those three movies are not the case. It ain't anything against you Dragula because you probably did the right thing (some crazy people here), but would someone honestly be infuriated if they found out the dog in Funny Games dies?

I mean it's not like they're actually killing an animal, and if the script calls for it then it has to be there.

I'm pretty sure these animals didn't die. There are strict rules against animal violence in the US. I dare you to discover what was the last real animal to die on a Hollywood movie. :)

Have you ever noticed that in the credits? "No animals were hurt in the making of this film"

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruelty_to_animals#Film_making):
The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has contracted with the American Humane Association (AHA) for monitoring of animal use during filming or while on the set. Compliance with this arrangement is voluntary and only applies to films made in the United States. Films monitored by the American Humane Association may bear one of their end-credit messages. Many productions, including those made in the US, do not advise AHA or SAG of animal use in films, so there is no oversight.

If the animal doesn't actually get hurt, who cares? It's just part of the movie.

I'm a dog lover no doubt, but I do know for a fact that white people love dogs more than anyone. No offense to white peeps, just an observation I've made.... but like where I live, its majority white, and I see them walking their ugly dogs (white people have very bad taste in dogs for some reason) and treating them like kings/queens....so attached to a dog that when they see a dog snuffed on film, its heart wrenching...fuck all the kids and women being blown away, seeing a dog get it is so much worse. Cuz he's so cute (except for the dogs I see being walked in my area).

Oh and the whole spoiler thing, I read in this thread title one time Mike Vick chokes a dog to death and its wrong, but Will Smith chokes his dog to death its ok Lol....should've seen the responses.

And another good example: the wolf in "Dances With Wolves".

I remember another movie in which the main character had a horse as his best friend, and then at a certain time, the horse dies. That made me so sad... the thing is, I don't remember which movie is that. Does anyone have any idea in which movie that happens?

For realz.....I have a friend who I swear, thinks she's Paris Hilton and shit...her and her prissy friends, I met them at a baseball game one time and after the game there was these people selling those rodent dogs right outside the stadium and she buys one, stuffs the poor thing in her purse then goes to the club with the damn dog in the purse the whole freaking time. I wanted 2 slap the dyed blond hair out her head lol

Worse dead dog scene ever to me was in the Fly 2, when dudes dog is sent thru the teleporter and comes out all deformed and is put in that pit to eat that slop and eventually is put down by the son of the fly .....I was just a small kid in the theatre watching wanting to cry my ass off, but I held it in hard. Well.... It would also be a much better place with less of these running around:

What sucks is that my sister has a fucking pomeranian running around the house. And I hate it.

And the other day, my cousin (a girl, doy) came by the house with "her new doggie". Her new dog which she adored. Her new dog which is the ugliest fucking thing I have ever seen. I had never ever seen something like that. It's like the one you just posted a pic of, only with short hair (or hairless, I didn't touch the fucking thing) and huge bat-like ears.

Literally the ugliest thing I had seen. I wanted it away, felt like it was going to steal my soul.

And I sez to my aunt, I sez. "I don't get why these girls love such ugly fucking dogs."

And she just goes: "That's the point, they're adorable because they're so ugly."

I'm sorry, but I'm not with women on that logic. Ugly animals are ugly animals. Might as well have a tarantula crawing about. I'll stick to my imaginary husky, thank you very much.

Could the dogs have been worth more because they were harder to hit? I just remember in Res. Evil trying to hit the dogs was pretty hard compared to a lot of other stuff. I once had to shoot a dog to get into a gang, but I just gave it a bowl of turkey gravy and waited for it to fall asleep. It didn't get me into the gang though, because they had some weird bylaw drafted in the early 80s after someone tried to pull the same shit. So that's why I ask about how hard it is to kill the dog because most rpgs don't have turkey gravy enabled.

OT, but has anyone ever seen Flash Gordon. Haha. Whoa! The Dark Knight is going to have to be pretty awesome to be better than this comic flick. They have fucking lasers guns and this one guy has two beards.

I do agree it can sometimes be a bummer to see animals killed in films, but like seeing a monkey like in Project X, or that gorilla movie, that can be sad, but like a movie with a chimp smoking cigars and wearing a hat, waving a pistol, that's not as bad.

Sorry I had posted this under current movies. I could not find this.

"In what should come as a shock to absolutely no one, PETA announced that it is upset with The Dark Knight because of a short scene in which Batman beats a few dogs in self-defense. PETA obviously has nothing better to complain about.

But to really show Batman the error of his ways, the animal rights organization removed him from its list of Top 10 Animal-Friendly Superheroes. Ouch. There’s also some great lines in the rant: “They didn’t need to make Batman into a dogphobic man!” True poetry. Then PETA asks, “Doesn’t the man with the James Bond gadgets know anything about peanut butter treats and deflecting devices?” Um, PETA? Did you even see the movie or are you simply unaware of how dumb you sound?

Like the rest of the entire world, I went and saw The Dark Knight this weekend, and also like the rest of the entire world, I was impressed with this darker take on the Batman mythos. I’m all for having Heath Ledger win the Oscar, and my superhero-comic-loving-nerd-patrol side could gush for hours about the intensity of this movie. But my animal-protector soul had a serious problem with a few scenes. Batman beats dogs—who knew?? P’shaw! And to think we gave him a spot on our coveted Top 10 Animal-Friendly Superhero list!

While I love that The Dark Knight lived up to its name by exploring the noiresque Frank Miller-inspired themes of Gotham’s protector, they didn’t need to make Batman into a dogphobic man! Batman is an icon, a superhero genius that beats up gun-toting thugs using only his iron fist of justice—KA-POW! He looks damn good in pleather while owning the streets, yet in The Dark Knight, he was punching out dogs left and right. Sure, it was self-defense, but doesn’t the man with the James Bond gadgets know anything about peanut butter treats and deflecting devices?

Because of this serious misstep for what’s otherwise a masterpiece, we’ve decided to take all the write-in votes for Hellboy seriously, knock our batvocate pal off the list, and replace him with the kitten-cuddling man in red."

I think alot of you are thinking that I don't think there should be animal abuse period. No, if you have to defend yourself against an animal then you should. Like for example in The Dark Knight, and I Am Legend. I'm mainly saying when its unnessecery (fuck did I spell that right?) then whats the point. If its in a video game go right ahead.
