Plot Outline: A crew of miniature aliens operate a spaceship that has a human form. While trying to save their planet, the aliens encounter a new problem, as their ship becomes smitten with an Earth woman (Banks).
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Elizabeth Banks, Gabrielle Union, and Scott Caan
Rated PG for bawdy and suggestive humor, action and some language
Runtime: 90 minutes
Looks better than a few of Murphy's latest efforts, but that's not saying much. Doesn't look very good at all, and I hope Eddie keeps his word and starts working on some more vulgar or serious projects.

Why does Eddie Murphy feel compelled to have several roles in the same movie? I'll give him Coming to America, but his last several movies where he's done this have bombed terribly. Who knows if this will, but it doesn't look funny at all.
Does he not see a pattern?

I'm sure he see's a pattern but either he lost all good judgement on what a good script is or he just doesn't really care what piece of crap film he stars in.

It looks funnier than Norbit, but that's really saying absolutely nothing. It's a good thing Eddie Murphy is considering giving up acting if he insists on continually making movies like this.

Norbit- $96 million domestic, $160 million worldwide
Nutty Professor II: The Klumps- $124 million domestic, $170 million worldwide
Bowfinger- $70 million domestic, $100 million worldwide
The Nutty Professor- $130 million domestic, $275 million worldwide
Coming to America- $130 million domestic, $290 million worldwide
No bombs to be seen. And with the exception of Norbit, general audiences loved or enjoyed all of the others, and critics liked Bowfinger, The Nutty Professor, and Coming to America.
Even his recent films where he doesn't play multiple people make money (with the exception of I Spy, Showtime and Pluto Nash of course):
Shrek the Third- $325 million domestic, $800 million worldwide
Dreamgirls- $105 million domestic, $155 million worldwide
Shrek 2- $445 million domestic, $920 million worldwide
The Haunted Mansion- $80 million domestic, $185 million worldwide
Daddy Day Care- $105 million domestic, $165 million worldwide
Dr. Dolittle 2- $115 million domestic, $180 million worldwide
Shrek- $270 million domestic, $485 million worldwide
So it's obvious to see why he makes these films... because they make money. But I think (if recent interviews show signs) that he is coming to his senses that his old and biggest fans are getting tired of some of the crap he's been in lately. He's already lined up for some good looking movies:
NowhereLand
A Thousand Words
Shrek Goes Fourth (if you like Shrek of course)
The Incredible Shrinking Man
Beverley Hills Cop IV (hopefully)
So hopefully those movies will get his ass back on track. And hopefully Meet Dave isn't as horrid as it looks.

MEET DAVE seems to be another shitty Eddie Murphy film. He needs to be stopped.

I'm guilty of laughing a few times during Norbit. Eddies got kids so I read he purposefully wanted to make some movies they could watch.
Agreed though, I miss foul mouthed Eddie.

I haven't seen one trailer, tv commercial, or review for this film. I don't remember the last time where I was so genuinely disinterested in a movie. I have no clue what this is about, and it's going to bomb fo sho.

Even more surprising: one (Corbett) wrote for "Mystery Science Theater 3000" and the other (Greenberg) penned some episodes of "Frasier".
I'll give them this at least: with Meet Dave they've managed to make Norbit look Shakespearean by comparison.

Although the first half of the movie felt extremely awkward at times it was pleasant enough and pretty funny at times. But once they get to the salsa resturaunte the movie gets seriously stupid and never recovers. I love Elizabeth Banks though. She's sexy and lovely and a good actress. Overall, I have to say that I love the idea of the movie but the overall execution of it is ultimately lackluster and disappointing. This could have made for a GREAT R rated comedy. Oh the possibilities if only they put more imagination to the script.

Just came in here to see if this one is as bad as I thought it would be...apparently it is, but not enough replies to get an idea of just how bad. Ill be back in a couple of days.

I have seen almost no advertising for this movie. I don't see this movie even hitting $10 million this weekend.

Why do Eddie Murphy's movies keep getting greenlit?
Why? He's not funny. HE'S LAME. Lame! Pluto Nash? Crap. Norbit? Crap. Nutty Professor? Crap.
About the only role of his I enjoy is Donkey from the Shrek movies and that's mostly because he is appropriately playing an annoying jackass.

Hey, Eddie still has his standup comedy, the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies, Coming To America, Bowfinger (His only good movie in the past 10 years), 48 Hours, and Trading Places. Don't judge his whole career just by his shitty movies of the past 10 years.

I haven't seen his standup (nor do I really care to) but with the exception of Beverly Hills Cop, the rest of that list is shit. Sorry. Just my opinion.

48 Hrs. will forever be my favorite Eddie Murphy flick. I just love that movie.
Beverly Hills Cop is a close second though.
And his most underrated is Metro. That was a very cool IMO.

Anyone who thinks Coming To America isn't a good movie is an idiot.
Anyway, Meet Dave isn't nearly as bad as everyone thinks. It's all physical humor, with Eddie Murphy basically making faces and walking/talking weird. Surprisingly, it works though. 6/10

I've liked Eddie Murphy's movies before. Trading Places... Coming to America... The Nutty Professor and the like... But when I saw an ad for this I was terrified because I thought "Pluto Nash 2"?:(

He lstopped making good movies when cell phones the size of bowling balls stopped being made in 1990. I have no problem with him making movies his kids can see but please make them tolerable for the everyone else that has to be subjected to the film, advertising and anything to do with the movie.

Lame jokes, and a completely waste of time.
I feel sorry for Eddie Murphy (http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/movie/15481328/review/21774110/meet_dave#). I do enjoy his performance in Dreamgirls.

So I didn't see this at the cinema for whatever reason (perhaps bad reviews), and viewers have slammed it like it's the worst movie ever, and low and behold I put it in the DVD player with zero expectations and in the end I actually enjoyed every minute of it. Not something to be taken seriously, but I laughed and was entertained for around 2 hours and that is the movies job. Makes you wonder did anyone actually see it? It was fun. 6.5/10
