Starring: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Mary Steenburgen, and Richard Jenkins
Rated R for crude and sexual content, and pervasive language.
Runtime: 95 minutes
I think this looks hilarious, and although I enjoyed Semi-Pro I know most hated it, but I wouldn't get caught up in that. The screenplay for Semi-Pro was written by the same guy who wrote The Heartbreak Kid and School for Scoundrels, while Step Brothers is written by the two guys who teamed up to write Anchorman and Talladega Nights, which are both absolutely hilarious. Can't wait to see this next Friday.

I haven't seen it yet, but I remember thinking the trailer for Anchorman looking cheesy and wasn't that appealing at all to me but it turned out to be one of the funniest films of the decade. I'll give McKay and Ferrell a chance regardless of the trailers. I just will never support Ferrell on his own. He's used up his free pass card.
Did you see their Green Team video on Funny or Die? That was pretty good. Better than their Landlord bit I felt.

8/10. saw it this afternoon. i really enjoyed it, had a ton of laughs. i wasn't a fan of talladega nights or semi-pro so will ferell was growing a little stale with me but this redeemed him for me. his tantrums and blow ups were really funny i thought. (you geriatric fuck) for people who are a big fan of his they will love it. john c. reilley is just hilarious in it as well, the speech in the beginning about what men do and how his dad getting married is messing that up is really funny. the theatre i saw it in also ran the red band trailers for tropic thunder and pineapple express, if those turn out to be as good, it will be one hell of a summer comedy trifecta.

"YOU GERIATRIC FUCK!" -Brennan Huff
Step Brothers - 8/10
It may not be the best comedy in years, but I'm telling you I haven't laughed this hard in years. Besides the hilarious performances by Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Mary Steenburgen, Richard Jenkins, and Adam Scott, nearly 100% of the credit goes to Will Farrell and Adam McKay who wrote such brilliantly funny and vulgar dialogue that had myself as well as the entire sold out crowd nearly in tears. Many classic lines that people will be repeating over and over again with their friends. Although I enjoyed Semi-Pro, I realize that a lot of people loathed it. This is a million times better than Semi-Pro, with the biggest reason being it has a much better script and the performances are much better. Ferrell and Reilly play the characters brilliantly and are funnier together here than they were in Talladega Nights. The expressions on their faces at certain points of the film are just priceless. Adam Scott is also hilarious as the well-to-do brother who loves to rub his fame and fortune in everyones face. This makes for some truly funny scenes. I am a fan of Ferrell, and this may sound like a bold statement, but I think this is easily his funniest movie to date. If you're looking to laugh your fucking ass off for a few hours, Step Brothers is the way to go. Rating may go up on repeat viewing.

I thought the first 30 or so minutes were pretty funny, with a decent premise that could've gone to great places. But as the film went on the film just became louder and more obnoxious and less funny. And the comedy was so obvious and uninventive and idiotic, I just couldn't take it. There is some funny stuff, but I just found it more annoying than anything.
5/10
Pineapple Express better deliver.

I wish the whole movie were as funny as the first 40 minutes were. Because then this would have been a comedy classic. Really, those first 40 minutes were HYSTERICAL! Unfortunately, after that the movie becomes WILDLY uneven with some parts being very funny and other parts being INCREDIBLY stupid. And I don't mean funny stupid either. I mean ridiculously lame and stupid. Basically nearly every scene with Derick's wife was dreadful. For that matter a lot of Derick's scenes sucked too. Although the awkward hug at the end between him and Ferrell was hilarious.
Ferrell and Reilly make for such a great comedy duo. As a team I liked them better here but Talladega Nights is much better movie overall. Richard Jenkins and Mary Steenbergin were great too although there are a couple of scenes when Jenkins overacts. Adam Scott I didn't particularly care for. Didn't like him here.
All in all, I'm very half and half with this movie. I don't regret seeing it but it's too uneven for me to be able to give it anything higher than a lukewarm recommendation. Disappointing.

Here are my favorite lines:
Derek: Haven't had a carb since 2004.
Dale: Suppose Nancy sees me commin' out of the shower and decides to come on to me. I'm lookin' good, got a lucious Vee of hair goin' from my chest pubes to my ball fro. She takes one look at me and she goes, "Oh my god, I've had the old bull, now I want the young calf". And she grabs me by the wiener.
Brennan (in Nazi uniform): Hey Derek, SPRECHEN SIE DICK!!
Alice: I want to roll you up into a ball and stuff you in my vagina.
Brennan: YOU GERIATRIC FUCK!
Dale: I got porn mags from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. It's like masturbating in a time machine.
Brennan: I'm gonna take a pillow case and fill it full of bars of soap and beat the shit out of you.
Brennan: I've got a belly full of white dog shit, and you go and lay this shit on me!?!
Brennan: What medical school did he go to?
Nancy: John Hopkins
Brennan: I used to smoke pot with a Johnny Hopkins.
Nancy: You don't know anyone named Johnny Hopkins.
Brennan: Yeah, we used to blaze that shit up everyday.
Brennan: Zip it you curly haired fuck. (something along those lines)
Sporting Goods Manager/Seth Rogen: Now the tuxedos just look fucked up!
Nancy: You screamed rape at the top of your lungs.
Brennan: But mom, I really thought he was going to rape me. He had the craziest look in his eyes...and I swear at one point I heard him say "Let's get it on."
Brennan (in lumberjack costume): I have traveled 500 miles to put my seed in you.
And there are many, many more.

I was surprised I didn't hate this movie. I really really don't like Will Ferrell, but if you're a fan of his, you'll definitely love this movie. It takes a lot for a comedy to impress me, so a 6 out of 10 is pretty decent. I laughed a fair amount, there were a lot of great lines, but that type of stupid humor really isn't my cup of tea. I would have loved it a lot more if they toned down the language and innuendo a bit. But, surprisingly, Ferrell and Reilly didn't annoy me really.

Pretty funny movie, but it kind of just bummbled along in the last half like it didn't really know what to do with itself. I wasn't a huge fan of Semi-Pro, but I'm definitely all for the foul mouthed R rated Will Farrell we've been experiencing this year.

Wow, not funny at all. I probably chuckled a few time during the whole movie. I'm suprised its getting so much good praise.
I usually love vulgar humor but hearing come out Ferrels and Reillys mouthes for almost two hours got really, really old after 20 minutes. It just seemed like they were trying way to hard.
Meh, I hope Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express makes up for it.

Although it isn't an "Anchorman", this film is up there. The humor was the aburb-yet-childish type I have come to expect from Ferrell movies, and both Reilly and Ferrell are hilarious; I find that they basically carried the film. The chemistry between the two is amazing, and by the time this hits DVD, I can predict that I'll be hearing many quotes from this films flying around.
The one beef I did have with it is that it somewhat began to carry on towards the end, and we begin to see things that we have already seen, or things that we have expected. Anyway, worth checking out.

i'd have to say that the funniest line for me was the very last. brennan: "it's okay that mine isn't movie quality!" my friends and i burst into tears when the credits started rolling literally a frame or two after he said that. it was such an unexpected and awkward way to end it that it made us crack up. that being said, this movie was funny, but nowhere near as funny as anchorman, and it stumbled every now and then. definitely better than talladega nights though, and definitely better than i was expecting it to be. 7/10

Conceptually, it's got to be one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. Luckily the movie had its share of funny one-liners that kept it watchable. None of the actual events or sequences in the movie were that funny, but several of the reactions (particularly by the parents) were pretty funny. After practically every scene, whether I was laughing or not (usually not), I said to myself: "That was stupid." Actual kids beating up the two leads, the bunk beds, the "Don't Touch the Drumset" scene - not funny. And I wish somebody would get across to these people that male nudity is NOT FUNNY!!!

Just fucking hilarious from beginning to end.
I just loved all the random shit like the choir music whenever the drums appeared, or pillows in the oven, or Ice Ice Baby:

This movie is all LOL and never stopped to actually get serious, which was refreshing.
And beating up the kids at the end? Classic.

Appallingly moronic, this movie may constitute the very definition of dumb. It’s the very bottom of the Will Ferrell pile with very few funny moments. One long joke (40 years olds acting like kids) with one good fart gag (farting to end a job interview) does not a comedy make. I like Will Ferrell but this ridiculous movie was a miss from start to cheeseball ending.

Pretty much the same feelings from me, but I hated it even more. I love stupid movies as much as the next guy (I'm one of the few here that greatly enjoyed Hot Rod), but this was just too stupid and almost almost as dumb as the Seltzer/Friedberg movies. I laughed at the montage of Reilly/Ferrell spoiling the other brother's attempts to sell the house and the first time Derek's wife flirts with Dale, but that was about it. I did like Richard Jenkins in this and his various reactions to the antics of Ferrell and Reilly were funnier than the antics themselves. Too many lame groan inducing moments like all the talk about dinosaurs/unicorns/kung fu, the scene where kids beat up Ferrell/Reilly, the long fight scenes that get tiresome, the sleepwalking scenes, and just Ferrell and Reilly both were really annoying and unfunny in this. The last 25 minutes with Ferrell and Reilly magically becoming quasi mature and getting jobs that they kept for several months and then Ferrell making everyone like them through song was just so horribly written and constructed. I think they wrote this plot in bullet points on a napkin and just had the actors yell swears for the rest of it. hated Talledega Nights so maybe that's why I hated this. But, this is my least favorite Will Ferrell comedy yet, at least Semi-Pro had Woody turning in a solid performance. I want Reilly to do more dramas now even though I really liked Walk Hard, if he's going to do anymore comedies, I hope Ferrell isn't involved. I haven't watched Old School and Anchorman in years so maybe Will Ferrell isn't the comic genius I thought he was when I was sixteen.
